I saw a documentary about the asian jungle elefants. I know it is unbelievable, but they really kind of sneak through the jungle. Their foots are soft and they are way smaller than the african elefants you know from the zoo. So it is really possible to come close as 50foot without recognizing the elefant in the jungle.

I started my own campaign as shamoke and I just noticed 2 things : population directly gives income for the nanman which makes up for their bad buildings for economy, and if the rebels take one of your counties, you can beat them up and get vassalage or confederate to get more bonuses as shamoke. Also I'm not using elephants at all except for generals, you should try non elephants armies, the nanman units are actually really fun to use, and surprisingly the singers are really good, kind of like repeating crossbows with the debuff they inflict. I'm on legendary, 38 turns in, 14 tribes united and only mulu and yang feng are left, you don't really need to exploit the game spamming elephants to do well as an nanman faction :) (you need to exploit confederation instead x)

Elephants are OP but also I’m finding the javelin spear guards to be good. Once you get the reform to use formations they can go into turtle formation and you can use fire archers to burn any towers to make it safe for tour elephants. Plus their javelins are pretty deadly and they can use them while in turtle form

So there I am living in splendor, loving my 4000 gold income and making chests. I watch as the country destroys itself and non-agression with everyone. Then this dude comes flying out of the jungle with his elephants and ruins any hope I had of a chill game. Was sweet lol

I really really wish you could select between types of bodyguard for your generals in Records mode. It works well as is in romance, but is so inflexible in records to have 3 cavalry units locked into generals. This was not an issue in previous titles because you only had one general per army and some armies even allowed for different bodyguard types. Perhaps they could consider a records mode revision that would look at gameplay elements like this that don’t quite translate to records for a future patch.

This is reminding me of Lu Bu campaign early battles. Always raining smh.

Everytime I tried to solidify the Nanman rebels, I couldn't because FUCKING Sun Ce just won't die and there he goes, instigating EVERYONE to attack me and it's so infuriating that Shamoke is always the 1st one to defect and be vassalized by Sun Ce in my gameplay and always gets pogrushed by Wu forces and even god damn Shi Xie and Liu Biao of all person. 3x gameplay, 3x that happened. Could NEVER get past Sun Ce to consolidate Shamoke.

I finished my nanman campaign. the nanman faction needs a serious buff. they suffer from no gold. it's near impossible to keep more then a full army until you conquer all the other tribe. and even then, any archer units destroy your army. I went back to try shi xie vs them. I rush onyx dragon and they literally destroy any namman army.

Looking at the satisfaction values playing as Meng Huo looks so much easier than Lady Zhurong... her low Authority value had me constantly micromanaging characters (and having satisfaction penalties because few characters had more than 20 satisfaction)... I only really fixed that by the time Zhurong became Queen of Nanman because of using Meng Huo's high authority as a Seer, leveliong Authority on Zhurong and her brother and *most importantly:* I managed to capture and recruit a Han Strategist from one of the Nanman tribes I conquered and she just so happened to have the "Reward the Filial and Incorrupt" assignment unlocked. Never before was I so happy to get additional 10 faction-wide satisfaction! :D Also I would love to see some Fire Archers action in the future. They might honestly be one of the most overpowered units of the Nanman. Their precision and rate of fire, as well as their damage seem even higher than the Han "Archer" units. I don't know if it is just the Nanman's vulnerability to fire but een a single Fire Archer can wipe out multiple Nanman spearmen before they even get into melee range, they light up towers with just one salvo and their 200 range outranges all other Nanman units.

I’m sorry I’m new to the game but what does the assignments trait mean? Does that mean you can put that character on an assignment in your province. One thing I’m finding w Meng Huo campaign is that none of his characters can be put on good assignments like the north factions. Mine so far are provide additional cover support for spies. So it then makes it seem it’s not good for me to have characters that won’t be deployed as generals? Besides cave lord of course

@@mannyfresh7065 so for some Nanman backgrounds (the thing under their name like novice commander), they will have one of the assignments unlocked. You can also unlock more assignments from your reform tree or just capture Han generals to use as assignment characters. In general, Nanman has weaker management and economical mechanics as seen from the less profitable buildings and weaker and fewer assignments.

@@mannyfresh7065 I am not sure what you mean with "Assignment trait". In principle you can send any character on an assignment as long as you have enough assignment slots unlocked (via reforms, faction leader bonuses and so on) and the character is able to perform assignments. Assignments can either be in your own commandery (where you own a city) to boost things like public order, income and so on, or in enemy counties to give you vision of that county or disrupt the enemy. It is true though that the Nanman factions at the start only can do assignments if their character background traits give them an assignment option. The rest of assignments have to be unlocked via Reforms or ancillary items like "Traders" for example. Since satisfaction is hard to manage as Nanman I would say yes, don't get too many characters if they don't have any use for them (like to be cave lords, send on assignments or deployed as generals). However it is always good to have some heroes as backup if you need to deploy them somewhere else or if one of your other generals dies. A bit later on in the campaign when you managed to control satisfaction you can then get more characters if they have good traits or stats or you just need more. As soon as you see that they get "lack of purpose" (so they get bored) you can send them on an assignment or deploy them as generals (with no retinue to save money) until their lack of purpose disappears, then you can send them back to your court until they have too much lack of purpose again. I hope way to long text that was helpful. :P If not then maybe Serious Trivia can give better tips than me. :D

Lord Helmchen nope you guys both nailed it! Thank you so much for your detailed response. Yes I was getting at the fact that I only have a provide spy cover for an assignment in my own commanderies. But if I hire a character who has a different assignment and depending on that assignment I might get a different assignment type? As in provides public order or increase in commerce. Or as mentioned through reforms as well. How do I know what those assignment traits will boost. For example a character I recruit says unlocks X assignment. How would I know what that assignment boost would give me prior to hiring the character so I can make good choices

this makes me sad, if you remember the first time I commented I had just finished a Lady Jhurong campaign, and I was feeling cheap. I used the "kiting the enemy around your towers" cheese for nearly every defense. You know how effective it is, I could stall four entire armies for up to six turns while they wasted their men walking in circles. I went searching on youtube for legendary "let's plays" to see if there was a legitimate way to do it. Nian Pian, Jiu Pian means "can cheat, do cheat" right? I heard that phrase in a Serpentza video, he says it's a major facet of Chinese society. P.S. I wish you would say dage instead of older brother, my favorite scenes of Zhang Fei are him crying and shouting "DAGE!", also his fight scene with Lu Bu, where he calls him "bastard of three fathers" although I have forgotten how to say "bastard of three fathers" in Chinese.

I think you are extracting quite a bit too much there to profile an entire race on one saying as there are hundreds of sayings promoting fair practice and morality. When you have a population size of China you should realize that like all races or nationalities there are a spectrum of individuals, from honest and humble farmers to corrupt business man trying to cheat the system as the saying you are pointing out here. That is the same all around the globe and throughout history. It also has nothing to do with the game. Why do we loop in the game? It is mainly because we don’t want to waste time recalling one of our frontline armies to come home and retake the land. It is mainly a time saving mechanic as you just stall the AI (who is already the one cheating with the 60% discount on all cost, hidden stat buffs in combat, and no food penalties). And as a player of a video game, you don’t want to waste time dealing with that so you find a game mechanic or a weakness in game design to beat the stupid AI by running them around your base. It is not realistic but neither are the bonuses the AI receive in the game. And a multitude of other things in the game like how your army drags a trebuchet on the march throughout China or how counterweight trebuchet in the European style even exist or how the southern factions can recruit cavalry when horse was a scarce commodity. In essence, as players, we play to have fun in the game. Some players download mods to buff their own factions and enrich their own experience. If you personally don’t like looping then don’t loop. At the end of the day, playing games is about having fun so as long as you are having fun it is all good

@@SeriousTrivia nice, I took "nian pian, jiu pian" to mean, if you are stupid enough to get cheated, you deserve to get cheated, sorry for suggesting all Chinese people are cheats. Also, I felt cheap doing the loop defense because it made the game so easy, if you keep doing the loop defense the AI can never take a single land off you, unless they can last the six turns to force the surrender.

I will not deny there are a lot of instances of fraud in China and I think it has a lot to do with the sudden growth of the economy which creates a multitude of factors that enables fraud. For example, the rapid growth in the last 30 years is not evenly distributed and the opportunities of someone else makes other jealous so people with low morale compass develop desires to take shortcuts to get rich and the rapid advancement has also created lags in education and technical know-how that takes time to fill. Like I think even in many western societies, the rapid advancement of the internet has opened the doors to massive opportunities of fraud and scams online targeting the older population so I am sure you can understand how it can become a ripe business in China where many rural and older folks might struggle when dealing with this type of fraud. As for the game play perspective, if you look at some of my actual let's plays I rarely loop enemies and often just let them take the city and take it back later as long as it doesn't disrupt the pacing of the game too much. Like the best way to think about it is, I know I am going to win in the end anyways, so I don't really let it bother me. It is always nice to know that looping is an option and it's even nicer to know that you don't always have to use it. I think it is excellent to tide you over in the early game but many players don't have a habit of scaling up the number of armies they need in the mid game to properly defend your growing territory so they end up falling back to looping in the mid game as a crutch when you really should be running 10+ armies much sooner than you realize. Like I have been hitting 18+ armies in most of my recent campaigns and at that point, you really don't see a need to loop.

Serious... I know it’s early but you are making this look way too easy on legendary. I’m having a great deal of difficulty with Shamoke on Hard. Awesome work as always.

nope sadly most of them don't provide bonuses like the yellow turbans so it is definitely not optimal. It is just a collection of the best nanman generals (for the collector in me)

this episode, I have not recorded ahead, so any comment on the campaign is still relevant

I'm curious if maybe the stat points are bugged for generic nanman for some of backgrounds maybe it should be lvl 1 -15 points / lvl 3 - 30points / lvl 6 - 50 points since i haven't noticed my chars gain additional stat points when lvling just abilities

I think only the main ones gain stats or else all generic nanman will be better than generic Han who all just have 15

Hey I think you misunderstood the stat increases on the characters. Unless it’s a visual bug it only goes up by 10 every time instead of the compounding bonus leading to 150 total stat points.

OK I think I live in another country that's why I was confused

I have noticed that there is no glowing circle with the level number on the legendary characters. Is that intended? I know that there was one in the previous builds, like 1 year ago. It was a long time since I have played the game.

@@SeriousTrivia Not sure if it's true or not sure if it is intended as a patch? Because I have watched a couple of let's plays and I have noticed it. Also, I think it does glow when you are in battle, just doesn't glow when you are in the campaign map, which is weird.

i hope you plan to update your ABC guide, especially about the top commanderies, cause the 1.60 update change a lot in the south

Man there is some seriously bad maps for the AI in this part of the map I’ve defended so many things with a tiny garrison

I'm not sure if this is an issue or not but I'm noticing that when I recruit a "legendary" Nanman general they end up losing the Legendary status a turn later. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

When you confederate a clan do you not get their gold?? It’s seems the more I confederate the more my economy goes to hell. Even after I drop the generals I don’t want

That can make it a bit rough because if they have armies on the map u inherit the cost u should inherit their wealth as well.. I figured it out just took me a couple tries
