never grind towards a shoulder on an od grinder , the wheel breaks down and You lose your diameter right at the shoulder. slowly plunge in at the shoulder and feed away to the end of the part

What's a shoulder, the middle builging part on the piece or the locking mechanism on the end of a lathe?

Seems to the the part on the, the 90 deg angle on the piece i think.
