Amazing Antiques and Vintage Valuables, & All Their Stories!
Small towns often have the best stuff when it comes to antiques and vintage, and there's both beauty and amazement when we visit The Rusty Trunk in Ponderay, Idaho for our appraisal fair!
This one has so many great things that haven't seen the light of day in years! A Victorian shawl dripping in elegant beadwork, a portrait of a wealthy woman from the 1830s and a pair of hand painted Royal Vienna ewers evidence the finery that came to this mining and timber district in its early days...but there's both primitives and 20th century fabulousness here as well!
Pioneer days are represented by a huge, handsome yoke (think farmhouse repurposing), a jug that emigrated from England and a copy of a sign warning guests not to be afraid of those newfangled electric lights! Yet side-by-side we see a JFK campaign award from 1960, an English tile scene that puts Elizabethan classicism in a modernist vein and a pair of 1930s composition dolls found by a cowboy in an old cabinet.
The sheer unlikeliness of all these great old objects coming to a fun vendor antique mall for our review is what makes small-town appraisal fairs so great! We look forward to sharing even more from our visits here in upcoming videos...but this one is a really fun place to start.

It is so much fun to see what they bring! Thank you so much for tuning in, I always am happy to show these because we see more real antiques than we do in most "antique malls" these days
Your chemistry with your audience is always amazing. You blend history and culture with such relevance and make it understandable to all. Your passion and love for collecting/collectors, even decorators, is inspiration to many. Wishing you much success in your journey.
Your appraisal fairs are great. So glad we are able to watch and listen in. 😊

Glad you like them! I sure enjoy doing it.
King Richard has beautiful colouration, and such a sweet boyish face…and, of course, the perfect name. I have high hopes for his survival, having seen Mandi, with her patience and loving care bring one back from the brink last year, and I was rooting for him very much to maker it back to flying. King Richard is eating his slurpy fruit slowly, and doggedly, so he can get his strength back…I will enjoy watching his journey in the care of Mandi. Thank you both for sharing this Mandi and Meg.🖤🇨🇦
I love learning about the items. You are so knowledgeable and informative. You’re always so kind to the people who bring the items.
I learn so much watching you.

You didn’t say anything about the piece I liked most, that wall art of the bird in the background. That’s such a cool piece.

Hi there! I'm sorry you missed me there, I'm hoping to do the appraisal fair there next year as well. I'm so glad you're enjoying the Nutting, that was a really pretty one!
Hi George! How do you know so much about so much stuff!!! You don't even have to stop and think about what you know.

As I have said many times, these are my favorites because there is so much information you give the audience in a short time. It's also cool when someone finds out their item(s) being appraised, is quite higher than expected. 😂 Thank you, George!🩷

Loved the reference to Connecticut near the end with the Victorian engraving about the Revolutionary War. You were spot on about us Nutmeggers, we totally geek out because we live in places where the battles and the spying went on (I live half a block from Caleb Brewster's place -- a lead spy for George Washington.) Was interesting to know that pieces like that are less desirable than in other parts of the country., yet it makes sense too. And thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You're so knowledgeable... ...I used to sit up all night studying depression glass...and somethings I just know by looks

What a terrific collection of antiques and collectibles. A lovely group of Idahoans and you are so good with people, I think you have fun. I might need to tackle the lady with the Kennedy Campaign box, I think that would go for $$$. My favorite was the large yellow German porcelain vase. Thank you for taking us along.
I just love all your knowledge on all these things! Do you ever come to New England to these appraisals?
Happy to have found your channel. KZreadr and Militaria collector living here in Mexico City. I was elated to see you had visited here. What was the most surprising item you found here that you wish you had picked up? Keep up the great work. Saludos from @mikeinmexico

I am!
I learned to sew on my Moms Elna, not quite as old as that one. Excellent machines, comparable to Bernina at the time.

Cool! It was close to the end of sewing classes, at high school, and It was a requirement to take. I am glad, it was fun !
I purchased a chamberpot. It's 132 years old. It has a manufacturing mark on it. I researched the mark and it was made by a man from North Carolina. I have his name on my phone. I know there's plenty of them out there. Probably not worth anything. But, what astonished me was that it's 132 years old, and there's no chips, breaks, or crazing. The only thing is that the gold rim is faded. I'm going to plant my ivy in it. So, it's worth something to me.
Great show!!

Hi by george
Question on the listed artists. Is there a website where you can view all listed artists? Google didn't turn up much.
The guy in the background looks just like the guy with the beard in the painting!
There's a factory artist (group of artists?) that pop up on one of the Facebook art ID groups, and weirdly all they did were paintings of old guys: rabbi, sea captains, Swiss guys in costume, etc. often smoking a pipe. They either used generic American sounding names or made up European sounding names on their paintings. I'm not completely sure if they were sold at furniture stores like most factory art or as souvenirs in various places.
Do you ever do appraisal fairs in North Carolina?
✨💖✨
What is that wipe you used on the Bakelite necklace?

George, after hearing your advice to wear the necklace over clothing, I am a bit concerned about your friend, Kate. Do u think she knows ? She could start wearing long sleeves blouses. 😮
@janetpogue4970

Kate is getting exposure everyday to formaldehyde.
My curiosity, in background in front of yard long behind the Chinese checker board. There appeared a folk art looking carved figure. Any info?
Anglefile ? Is that about being an Angleton?( notice, I am a weak speller, never quite sure if I have it righr)😮
