At Step 1 I would advise getting more than one bearing as early as possible. Drive at 90 degrees or thereabouts to the start point and get another bearing. Time spent there will give a confidence level in the general direction will save wasted time and miles chasing red herrings on route.

Thank you, glad you liked it. If you want to know anything else or have any ideas, feel free to let us know, always looking for new content ideas in ham radio. Thinking about doing one that goes into how to get a new foxhunt group going or something along those lines too. - Tim KB9SNL

Could I use this method to track down an individual who is yelling racist stuff over the ham repeater? it seems that he starts throwing the hard N word everytime someone access the repeater, ruining the fun for all of us. I've already reported him to the FCC, but Id like to help the FCC find this guy easier.

Absolutely. In fact, that’s one of the most useful things about it. In that case, you would triangulate on the input frequency of the repeater and try to figure out what direction the signal is coming from when the goon is transmitting.

@@3oldtechdudes I might have to get some guys to help me triangulate the maniac easier. The repeater is on top of a 3,500 foot mountain so who knows how far this goon really is, lol. The nice predictable thing about this guy is if I key up the mic and start talking, he's going to respond with his usual crap, making it easier to find him

@@johnkeo358 Once you get a team together (on the quiet -- don't give the game away publicly) allocate someone to engage the clown in a QSO for as long as possible when he comes on air as you need to keep him talking while you triangulate. Once you have a good fix, drive or walk around covertly to home in on an address. DO NOT physically confront the person -- leave that sort of thing to the authorities -- but by all means out him on air.
