Am I Worried About My Transmission? [2021 Chevy Silverado]

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado Custom Trail Boss gets its first transmission service at 40,000 miles. The results make me slightly concerned about the longevity of this transmission, but only time will tell.

2021 trailboss 5.3 during the chip shortage. Came with the cyl deactivated factory and no start stop. Thank god. 6L80 also I also have 48,000 no issues. Once in a great while it will shift harder than normal down shifting. Always had and not that bad still going strong. I don’t worry about it.

I also have the notorious 2 to 1 hard downshifts, seems to be a characteristic of the transmissions. Glad your truck is running great at 48k!

Try fixing it under warranty! Just got mine fixed and let me tell you drives like butter. Had to get a few gears repaired but after that the slippage was gone, also the random jumps on cold start when putting it in drive and also the occasional hard shift while driving.

I have the 5.3 with 6spd as well. I'm more worried about he lifters going out due to the AFM/DFM. I have 50k miles on mine with no issues. I just keep truckin and pray nothing big breaks. Love the truck! Wish you luck.

I agree… the lifters are also concerning. Do you run an AFM disabler?

No. It's still under Powertrain warranty, so I don't want to mess with it for now. I might add that after it expires.@@limitedslipautomotive

I had a 6l80 in my old suburban 2500. It shifted kinda weird. Especially if you romp on it. Still ran like that for 145k until I traded it for my Silverado.

Had a 2019 trail boss that I bought brand new. I’ve I reached 82,000 the torque convert completely went out. They wanted to charge me $10,000 for a whole new transmission and torque converter. I said f it.i traded it in for new Silverado 2023 Texas addition 2WD. I think that I might go Toyota soon if I DECIDE TO GO 4WD again.

My 2021 Trail boss custom 5.3, 6 speed, built without AFM. Cold not no ticking ever, hot start get ticking on driver side for 5 to 10 seconds every time. Even get the ticking if I turn off key and immediately restart but it only does this if up to temp. I thought lifter at 1st, not sure now. Has done this since new, now has 11k miles (I only use it on weekends). Anyone else have this hot restart temporary ticking” ?

Totally normal, it’s likely the high pressure fuel pump. My truck makes the same sound.

Get the truck tuned and put a billet torque converter in with the superior solutions thermal bypass, which I see you did. The factory tune is garbage. I have a 6L80 and have pretty much bullet proofed it. I'm not saying it can't go out, but its less likely. (TUNE IT) !!!!

@limitedslipautomotive HP TUNE.. calibrated my speedometer to my tires, adjusted my shift points, and now my tq concerter doesn't slip. It also turned off the afm, so it stays in v8. A few more things were done also. They improved the tq/ throttle response and improved mpg. Trucks shifts so smooth, man. There are no more hard shifts at all (GREAT THROTTLE RESPONSE). I let someone who was certified to do it. It will potentially run you $400 or a little less. Im from the south, so pricing varies compared to you im sure.

I’ve got a 2019 ltz, should I just preemptively change the torque converter at 60000 miles?

Honestly I am considering it.. think it’s a couple thousand dollars, but still cheaper than a whole new unit. Heard that a billet converter is the way to go.

@@limitedslipautomotive yeah apparently the bottoms in the Billets are one solid piece instead of having several welds

Tune the slip out of the torque converter and it’ll last.
