If you’ve ever used a jigsaw before, you might be familiar with the fact that it’s notoriously difficult to perfectly cut along a straight line. But there is an easy way to do dead straight cuts, that doesn’t require a lot of practice at all! Mark the start and end points of your cut, that you would normally connect using a straight line. Now take your jigsaw and place the blade right where you would cut into the wood. Now take a piece of wood that is perfectly straight and clamp it to the board you want to cut, touching the metal frame surrounding the bottom of your jigsaw. Repeat the same process on the other side Now start cutting with your jigsaw along the clamped piece of wood using it as a guiding fence. Make sure to always apply a slight pressure towards the track though, to really keep the saw on track! This trick works perfectly for circular saws too btw :)
Follow these easy steps to really step up your woodworking game!

    The issue is with many jigsaws the blade, as it is thin, goes on some side, so to guide the plate is actually pointless. And it is not about the brand. Even very small difference can push the blade out of the line. With soft materials that guidance could work, but not with hard wood.

    to make this easier to repeat... id clamp wood either side, for an actual channel for the jigsaw to go down. The first time I did it, I'd also measure the three marks. The right stright edge, the blade mark and the left straight edge distances... this way every time you want a cut, measure cut line, then measure out the two tracks...

    Can you show the close view of that final cut??? 😂 I bet, if you take that fallen cut piece reattach with hand and see, we can find the drifts & gaps howmuch it might had caused. No matter how finer the jigsaw blade is. Carpentry basic: Don't expect a straight line if your saw is not parallel to the board. In jigsaw's case, it is perpendicular, so it will oscillate to produce curved cuts. Also the blade will be thin for the purpose to bend. For straight lines, the bull "Circular Saw"... The Legend!

    I'm not really convinced by this given the nature of jigsaw blades. On the other hand, if you also clamped a second fence on the other side of the jigsaw that would probably improve things. Many people here say "use a circular saw". But what if you find circular saws completely, totally and utterly terrifying?

    Also sometimes you want to cut small rectangles, like for a kitchen sink or smaller, like actually shon in the video. That wouldn't work very well with a circular saw.

    Not everyone can afford that kinda of stuff, especially when starting out. It's a no brainer *doink UsE tABLe SaW*, but money doesn't grow on trees for those without a daddy. Anyways, the tip is only good if making short cuts. The longer you cut, the more you find yourself needing to keep the saw against the rail. What happens after that, every newb will eventually learn. This is why most good jigsaw jigs, have bearings to hold the blade straight.

  • @wildeast66
    @wildeast66 Жыл бұрын

    This tip can create bad results. Most of the jigsaws I know, had at least a small deviation between direction of the sawblade and jigsaw. If you have your jigsaw parallel to the line, then your blade might not, starting to drift away slightly. Then, while pressing the saw onto the rail, the sawblade has to tilt and will not create an exact perpendicular cut. But you'll only see it at the end, then it's too late. Works for a circular saw much better. But be careful with a jigsaw.

    just make another guide on the other side

  • @wildeast66

    @wildeast66

    10 ай бұрын

    @@automachinehead Either I do not understand you, or you didn't understand me. What I meant: If the blade is not parallel to the saw - which happens often - the blade itself will drift sideways in the wood. But the saw - and therefore the point, where the blade is connected to the saw - will not (due to the guard). That causes the blade to bend sideways (top part fixed distance to the guard, lower part drifting to either side), which it doesn't resist very much. In the end the cut is neither at the right place nor perpendicular to the surface. The point is: To get a straight cut along a line, in many saws you need to angle the saw at least a very small bit. Especially for long cuts very small deviations can add up significantly. Circular saws cut themselves a path, that is wider than the blade and they are more resistant to sideways bend. They force their way parallel to the guard.

    Tools are invented for it's own purpose & engineered for that purpose only. Straight cut: "Circular Saw, Circular Saw, Circular Saw". Zoooom... No excuses... A straight cut! Curve & intrinsic cuts: "Jigsaw with variable blades" Jigsaw blade moves up and down on a small circular wheel in the front with variable speed. The blade are designed to bend or drift according to the pressure applied which is logical common sense that, then only it can make curve/ intrinsic cuts accordingly. One can ride the jigsaw's base plate in a parallel guide(s) but no one can stop the oscillation or drift of the blade in that small wheel ( _Unless we convert a jigsaw by placing it upside down and guiding the blade will two wheels like a table saw, is another stupidity_ 😂). First of all, this kind of conversion or porting the functionality of a tool for what it is NOT meant for itself is stupidity or against the manufacturer's guidelines. No wonder, you can find tons of stupid videos on, how to convert a jigsaw into an aeroplane? too...😂 Verdict: Use the appropriate tool for what it is meant for!
