    Alundra is such a gem. Really sad that it didn't get more attention than it did

    The further I got in the game, the more shocked I became that Alundra rarely gets mention in the conversation when sites talk about the best PS1 games.

    I'm going to write down Alundra to play some day, you convinced me. Fun video as always! I usually think your cartoon clips are a little too loud but they seem better balanced this time.

    I hope whenever you play it, that you enjoy Alundra as much as I did! And thanks for letting me know about the audio on my cartoon clips. That's very helpful to know. My ears are shot from listening to metal way too loud as a kid, so audio balancing is very tricky for me. I'll do my best to keep the cartoon clips' audio around this level or lower from now on.

    Agreed! Unfortunately I think Sony published it in Japan, so they'd have to approve it before a Switch release could even be considered.

    I don't understand why they even named it Alundra 2 if there was no intention actually making a sequel to Alundra.

    I can't believe that I have never played Alundra. It's on my list of "Games I need to play" but my backlog is already incredibly huge thanks to sales and services that give away free games. Landstalker was one of my favorite games on the Genesis and their similarities are impossible to ignore. Don't know if you take recommendations but some other great PS1 games to check out : Future Cop LAPD Tomba and Einhander. Some of my favorites on the PS1 (besides all the bigger games).

    OMFG, I was trying to remember what the name of that Dark Savior game was for fucking YEARS. Thanks so much for that! I just remember reading about it and seeing screenshots very briefly in an old console gaming mag, back when those were still a thing and the internet didn't really exist yet, and I remember it talking about how it basically had a prison economy where stuff like booze and tobacco was the currency. Well that's another long lost title refound to cross off the list. Also that Feda game looks very Shining Force.

    @@SwannyTheMike Yeah, maybe someday I'll download a rom for it and give it a go. Kinda wanna give Shining Force 1 another try at some point and actually finish it this time. I never beat Alundra 1, but I quite liked it. I'll get around to that at some point too. Not sure how to feel about Alundra 2 being so drastically different from the first game though. Maybe I'll give that a go too at some point. It's not like I got anything to lose from downloading an iso.

    I'm going to try Alundra 2 at some point as well. Even if it's not as good as the original, I'd prefer not to write the game off wholesale until I've played it myself. I also really need to cover the whole Shining series at some point. I can't very well call myself a SEGA fan and not talk about Shining Force! Phantasy Star as well, but one thing at a time!

    Of course! I'd eventually even cover the PS2 games and on that have basically nothing to do with the rest of the series and have a completely different artstyle. Seriously, I bought Shining Resonance a few years back because I like action RPGs and didn't even realize that it was supposed to be part of the same series until I saw people talking about it after the fact.

    It's so aggravating how almost nothing Working Designs localized has ever gotten a rerelease. The most we got was this, Arc the Lad, and Vanguard Bandits released as PSOne Classics. Then Sony stopped doing that and they disappeared again. It wouldn't be so bad if the original physical copies of Working Designs games didn't require me to sell my organs on the black market in order to afford them! Then again... do I really need BOTH of my kidneys?

    No mate, don't change the surfer dude's surfer talk. And don't give me crap about it undermining the seriousness of whatever situation he is in. Surfer dude's surferness is what makes him cool (and worth caring). If he stopped being a surfer dude, or wasn't one in the first place, then it just wouldn't be him. Even his dream girl talks like his dream girl, you know what I mean ("kiss me you greek god").

  • @SwannyTheMike

    @SwannyTheMike

    Thinking about it more, it almost works. What would have helped IMO is if he talked like a surfer dude up until the spoiler makes him resent Alundra. It would have gelled perfectly with how the game baits you into thinking it's more lighthearted before slapping you in the face with the drama.
