Social media detox while staying alone in an off-grid cabin in the English countryside. I locked my phone away and spent a few days exploring the remote woodlands and living in a solar powered tiny house surrounded by hills and pastures. This was what slow living really looks like. :)

I spent a few days alone in an off grid cabin - this is my very first experience traveling solo, without technology or social media. I found it a bit scary, because I do struggle with some intrusive thinking. The experience was very wonderful though. I managed to conquer some of my fears (brought on by anxiety and intrusive thinking) and actually unplug for a few days. Have you ever done anything like this? If not, would you want to?

Yes, I would! I understand about intrusive thoughts. I'm an over-thinker and would have the same problem without the distractions.

Hello. Fear is a part of life. For everyone. You have the same options to deal with it as everybody else. Ignore the possibilities, accept what may come, decide what you have the strenght to fight or the patience to accept. Learn things that help with it. I know of a person who is scared of horses. If you think about it, most horses weight far more than a human and could steam run over people if they so choose. Or if they get scared enough to not think at all. But when you learn to read them and to notice the sign when a horse sees something, they find scary, you can react to it in a reasonable and somewhat calm manner. Another idea would be to add experiences. If you are scared of sheep and such, visit a petting zoo for example. Fear doesn't disappear really, but by choosing to go out of your own comfortzone, you can grow confidence, that you can deal with it. Or at least with the choosen situations. To me, sheep are a lot less scary than just cars. Because sheeps tend to cause way fewer accidents... Maybe pick up a book on how to teach children confidence, or adults. But if you are struggleing with things others would consider a no-brainer, it may be wise to start small with a kids book and work your way up. There is no shame in admitting that a part of you (in this case confidence) stopped growing early on. It's true for a lot of us, though which part it is, is very varied. If you grew up with few people, it's perfectly normal to worry about other people. But avoiding them isn't going to change that. In my case what stopped early on, was actually romance. My early experience was rather (please excuse the word-choice) dick-driven. It's not that I mind doing something the other person wants to do. It's that I found myself in relationships that only think about their own wishes, but ignore any and all wishes from me. I didn't see the point in seeing someone, who wouldn't do anything with me, that showed a little bit of care for me. Well, good luck in connecting with others. Maybe try out talking to someone instead of going off grid? Sounds to me like a better choice in conquering your fears.

Be careful, my dear... When you start taking these kind of short trips alone, it is so goooood that you need to live the experience again and again and again. This is what I do, now. I'm retired, free, and spend one month here, one month there (less expensive when you rent for a month!!!)... always far from the city crazy life and pollution. Always close to the forest, or the sea... I just love it. I also make videos (here on KZread), paint, draw, write, or just spend time walking in Nature, contemplating its beauty. This is a wonderful way of living. Nothing is more fullfilling than stay close to nature AND ALONE (that means free!)...

Perfect, if you're a writer. All day to read and write without interruptions. The best thing about that cabin, to me, is the large window with which to take in the unobstructed view, and moody weather that I love. Do you think the rain made it extra special? I'm feeling nostalgic about that phone. I miss my Nokia. I had a beautiful red one. I think it was my first cell phone. ♥🥰

😊A fellow introvert here, wanting to show support! 😉 It is estimated we are between 30 and 50 percent of the world population, and essential for the balance and advancement of Humanity. But we have been "closeted" or thinking we were just weird for so many time, that didn't realize this truth until recent times! It is certainly annoying that the world around us seems tailored to fit just the extrovert size, and to top it all, some of us are from countries that are culturally an extrovert's paradise! (🇪🇸 😅 My case! 😌) But don't despair, and just be yourself, as so many creators, geniuses, artists, scientists, writers, pioneers and just happy (if often annoyed 😁) fellow introverts have been, while they were changing the world or just chilling out in their rooms! 😉👍 🤗

I understand intrusive thoughts, memories that spark the trauma one is trying to outrun, hoping to out live. There is no way to make friends with trauma, or the memories of it. Sometimes visual and audio makes a barrier of temporary protection. I have learned to choose carefully some visual or audio that won’t trigger the trauma memories. Sleep is still difficult as you can’t monitor the dreams and shut them off. Lovely lass, you do what helps. Don’t judge yourself for needing to escape. Use what comforts you, visual audiovisual, what ever comforts. 🦋

Beautiful words! Not gonna lie, I actually had some nightmares when I stayed there - it might be the wind, or it might be the book I was reading. I'm a naturally more melancholic person, but I like to add to it by reading darker themed books while being alone. I don't like to think of it as self sabotage, but it definitely does evoke some negative emotions.

I did a complete social detox (digitally + physically) by attending a 10-day Vipassana Meditation centre. It was the most surreal and overwhelming experience I have had to date. To see you take this detox, takes me back to 2017, when I was weaned away from all ways of communications - verbal and non verbal to solely focus on myself. The experience came with its teachings and learnings and allowed me to learn so much more about myself and the potential I carry.

I am in love with your cinematography here! Those transitions.. ah! so good! As for the topic, I believe more and more of us seek to find a balance between life online and being unplugged. I'm happy to never have a "real" smartphone (use an old one only as an alarm clock) but I'm glued to my laptop often. What I found really beneficial for me was cooking and doing chores in complete silence, rarely with music on. On my walks, I don't have any technology with me. It helps me to be a peace with my mind overall and gives my eyes a rest. And as you said, yes, I also want to share it with people, so I love having deep conversations in the language community I'm in. We even had sessions there about ways to unplug. So grateful to you and many others for this space on KZread where you can go and relax, rethink and redefine. 💚

Yes it would be a gift to turn everything off. I remember when vinyl records was out the first time.😊 My dearest memories was when I spent time with my grandparents in the country here in the States. This was a time when there was no web spun across the world. We were lucky to have a few channels on t.v. They grew huge vegetable gardens, flower gardens, canned their food. Made homemade bread and different foods. It was a simpler time but better time. My grandparents was from the greatest generation. 💖💖💖 nice video!!

Being an urban dweller most of my life, being in an isolated situation, alone, is way past what my comfort zone will allow. So bravo you! I would love to have the courage to do what you did but I do not have the trust bandwidth to be isolated like that. That said, I am very comfortable on my own. I am comfortable with my own company. But I do have some sort of ‘sound’ going in the background everyday now that I am retired. Being a social introvert I need that as an anchor so I don’t get lost in my own head. I love that you did this for you and that is what matters most. ❤️

The fulfilling nature of vastness, like an empty green field outside a raindrop-covered window, is something that I have always felt and yet never heard anyone else talk about before. This is already one of my most favorite videos of yours, along with For Highly Sensitive Humans And Empaths and Inspiration For Autumn.

Thank you so much! 🥰 Oh you know, someone mentioned it to me at some point, that the nature I show isn't quite "striking"- in its epic landscapes, mountains, sea, whatever it is we find so magnificent to look at, - but it still is somehow beautiful in its simplicity. And I didn't quite understand that. I always (by always, perhaps, I mean since the moment I learned to be present) found nature beautiful in all its forms. But I finally understood the meaning of it. It's not "striking" to an untrained eye, but it's beautiful to those who choose to see.
