The thing with those old cans, and I wish they hadn't change them, is that if you used a can opener to remove the bottom "lid" you could use the can as the nigiri mold.

I made this recipe many times and it is the best! The best part about it and what separates it from other recipes is that he ladles the sauce into the pan and the heat of the pan caramelizes the sauce and helps it soak into the spam balancing the saltiness. Most other recipes online do it where you just briefly soak before cooking and it's not as good. This is amazing!!

I didn't know what these were called, so I asked a group of guys from Hawaii, who train at the same BJJ academy as I do. I called it a "spam wedge", and the guys fell over laughing. I have been corrected, and the term "spam wedge" lives on in infamy.

Just came to say aloha. I used your recipe and made Musubi today. It was the first time in 15 years I’ve had it, and I honestly almost cried. I miss Hawaii. This reminds me of my family, my Hawaiian roots and the small time I actually got to spend living on Kauai with extended family. I saw spam musubi at a Hawaiian restaurant here in town. It was pretty spendy so I decided to try making it myself. Got nori at the store, a musubi mold and a you tube video how to. I've been making it ever since! I never thought of using furitake, I'm going to from now on. I put the Spam slice in the mold first, then the rice and press. The fold the nori with the seem underneath. Gotta get some furitake......

Nice video. I think I am going to try this for 8/08 National Spam Musubi Day!!! Oh, and no need send Spam to the mainland...hahaha. That's were it originally came from. SPAM is a canned lunch meat product that first hit shelves in 1937. It was created in Austin, Minnesota by the manufacturers Hormel Foods. Toward the end of the Great Depression, SPAM helped fill a huge need for inexpensive meat products. And its popularity only grew. How was Spam introduced to Hawaii? The true root of the island's love for SPAM® products goes back to World War II, when the luncheon meat was served to GIs. By the end of the war, SPAM® products were adopted into local culture, with Fried SPAM® Classic and rice becoming a popular meal.

Your video was the best I saw of a whole bunch. Great instructions and even better giggle. LOL I made my first musubi tonight, and it was awesome! Even without the acrylic mold. Now, I need to find one of those molds. Because I am making more! Thank you!
I live in Hawaii and I literally eat spam everyday😂😂 they even have spam musubis at 711 I love them
That was one of the most charming videos I’ve ever seen . thank you

xXsilentscreamingXx Aw man, I grew up in MA and couldn’t wait to get out! The winter is insane and it’s dark out by 4:30 PM. Best of luck dude!!
I didn't know what these were called, so I asked a group of guys from Hawaii, who train at the same BJJ academy as I do. I called it a "spam wedge", and the guys fell over laughing. I have been corrected, and the term "spam wedge" lives on in infamy.

Aloha! I like your rice cooker and blue bowl👍🏼 thanks for this video and nice instructions, I ordered my musubi maker and will make some tomorrow!!! Can’t wait, looks yummy...yay!!! 😋
(Hawaiian grandmother raised her kids and then our parents- us … on the mainland). Thank you so much for sharing your recipe. Much aloha to you. ❤

Mahalo for the recipe and instructions.
I like mine with the spam cut thin and pretty crispy, put two of those and about half the rice most people use....so yummy. Comfort food from my childhood.

Just moved here and found this video. This is BY FAR one of my favorite things to eat here 🤙🏼

Oh I noticed and I'm still chuckling.

Howzit! I work/live in Swaziland, Africa, and we have a cultural day where we gotta make food representing the culture we came from (grew up in Hawai`i), so I was looking for Spam Musubi recipes, and I'm delighted to see your video! Mahalos brah, this is perfect!! Now I gotta order some Spam from Amazon lol One question: do you use sushi rice or regular rice? I've heard it both ways, I also heard you're supposed to mix the rice with Rice wine vinegar and all that. Hoo it was easier to just buy it from 7-11. Shakas \m/
