Almost ready for start up! Gear oil, engine oil, dashpot oil, and brake fluid. Bugeye Build Ep. 130

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Last bit of work before starting the car! The Frogeye's rear axle gets its oil, the engine gets its high zinc content oil, the dashpots get their oil and the clutch and brakes are bled. If the car won't go, at least it will stop!

I picked up the brake bleeder kit and Lucas high zinc engine oil at a local parts supplier but they are also available on Amazon...

Amazing work Ian. And to think you restored your Bugeye right in your garage with a little time and all the patients of a job well done. I learned so many neat tricks from you.

Ooooh! A Saturday special edition. You may have done these before but I just caught up a couple of months ago and this is the first one I've seen. Looking forward to the first start & drive.

Nicely done Ian - I'm living vicariously right now as I wait for my money tree to come back into bloom so I can get the body work done on my Sprite. Interesting Remote Bleeder, I have one on my Spitfire's clutch, however it uses a steel-braid line. Definitely better than going in through the tunnel or from underneath.

Regular 20W50 engine oil can be used for the dashpots. Burlen sells their own oil which is 20w. The height is 1/2" below the collar. Any excess just gets sucked into the engine.

Going well Ian. I figure the starter button gets pushed (actually pulled on these) next episode. I was very interested to see Penrite oil which is manufactured here in Melbourne, Australia. I had no idea that it was exported to North America - the label is different however.

Thank you. The starter knob does get pulled in the next episode. Whether or not anything happens remains to be seen! :)

Fluids are one of the less fun tasks of working on a car, but you made it look easy and mess-free! I’m so excited to episode 131 and the car’s first start. Have you named this car, by the way?

Is the rubber fuel line back in front of the diff hanging a bit low? It looks like it might catch on something as you drive over it. Beautiful job. It takes me back to my misspent youth, back when I could drive from the Midwest to Florida without a top. I never got around to getting one. BTW, the round trip cost about $40 for gas, thanks to sub 30 cent gas. Enjoy.

Thanks John. I'm keeping an eye on the fuel hose and may just rearrange things later. I've got no youth left to misspend :). However, we do plan on some shorter road trips in the not too distant future.

Looks great, as always! Are you going to livestream the first start? :) I also have two quick questions: - What did you use to get the fill and drain plugs in and out of the differential? I’ve never been able to figure out what fits into that square hole (which I think is tapered?). - When you loosend off the rear brakes when adjusting them, how much is “one notch”?

First start will be episode 131! I just used a 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen and retighten the fill and drain plugs. It doesn't fit perfectly but works if you're careful. With the brakes there is a definite notch or click on the adjuster. I tightened the adjuster until the drum couldn't be turned and then backed off one notch or click from there. Everything seems to be working so I must have done something right :).
