Allison Russell - Nightflyer (Official Music Video)

"Nightflyer" is from Allison Russell's first ever solo project, Outside Child (produced by Dan Knobler). Stream/buy here: found.ee/AROut...
"Nightflyer" is written by Allison Russell and Jeremy Lindsay aka JT Nero.
"When I was sixteen I read The Thunder: Perfect Mind for the first time - it’s an exhortatory poem discovered among the Gnostic manuscripts in the Nag Hammadi library in the 40’s. It has never left me. I’ve been meditating on the nature of resilience, endurance, and grace more deeply since becoming a mother. I was trying to bridge the divide and embrace shame and my inner divinity equally with this piece…"- A
Lyrics:
Yeah I’m a midnight rider
Stone bonafide night flyer
I’m an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you
I’m the melody and the space between
Every note the swallow sings
I’m 14 vultures circling
I’m that crawling, dying thing
I’m the smoke up above the trees, Good Lord
The fire and the branch that’s burning, Lord
Maybe you were sleeping, Lord,
But Mary she’s not weeping no more, no
Yeah I’m a midnight rider
Stone bonafide night flyer
I’m an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you
I’m the sick light of a hurricane’s eye
I’m a violent lullaby
I’m six fireflies, one streetlight
I’m a suffocating summer night hmm mmm
I’m each of his steps on the stairway
I’m his shadow in the door frame
I’m the tap tap of a lunar moth
I’m the stale beer on his breath hmm mmm
His soul is trapped in that room
But I crawled back in my mother’s womb
Came back out with my gold and my greens
Now I see everything
Now I feel everything good lord
What the hell could they bring to stop me Lord?
Nothing from the earth, nothing from the sea
Not a God Almighty thing
Yeah I’m a midnight rider
Stone bonafide night flyer
I’m an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you
I’m the wounded bird, I’m the screaming hawk
I’m the one who can’t be counted out
I’m the dove thrown into battle
I can roll and shake and rattle hmmm mmm
I’m the moon’s dark side, I’m the solar flare
The child of the Earth, the child of the Air
I am The Mother of the Evening Star
I am the Love that Conquers All
Yeah I’m a midnight rider
Stone bonafide night flyer
I’m an angel of the morning too
The promise that the dawn will bring you

Oh, you think you're crying now?.. Just teasing. Are you new to Allison Russell, JT Nero and Birds of Chicago music? Just saying if I listen to Birds of Chicago, I'm gonna cry. Period. For instance listen to this version of "Sparrow" taken from an Audio Tree session. Start it at 16 minutes in. Oh yeah, grab a box of tissue first... kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqp5p7SoibzgZZM.html

For sure. I second your emotion. I am a tail end baby boomer. Even though I feel ours was the best era for music and creativity; I still leave room for these new young, jewels and gems to be unearthed. I believe it's the originality that breaks through. No imitations or put on airs. Authenticity is key. The honesty and beauty of this young woman is so welcome and refreshing.

Congratulations Allison - I met you years ago in a workshops for artists, and later interviewed you for a magazine? I can’t even remember now - anyway it was apparent from Day One that you are a star 🤩 I’ve followed your career since then, and have seen how you have so openly talked about your sexual abuse as a child as well. I can see how your life and spirit has grown so much since those days. I hope that you always take care of yourself and thank you for your openness and honesty.

Allison Russell I have to meet you before my time on earth ends just to be graced with shaking your hand. Man have I been through it and am now just rising from my absolute rock bottom, I have lost it all but God glory and the universe by my side I found 1 thing I have endlessly searched for and it took me 49 years - I found me. The real me no masks as I no longer concern my soul with worldly views. Heard this yesterday morning and I have played this song over and over as it brought me a deep out of this world sense of completion. My end is merely but my absolute beginning. I'm a violent lullaby. This song gave me more energy and peace than I thought possible. You are an amazing night flyer of source. The energy and calm the fire alongside water. Wow. You are a legend in the making. What can I do to get an autograph from one of Gods amazing artists that has found their true deep talent?

I started collecting 🪶 feathers on my journey thru Life, way b4 I ever heard this song or seen the video. I'm an artist I painted a large mural on my kitchen ceiling of a morning sunrise 🌄 , with a smiling faced 🌞 Sun. For the highlights in the pupils of the 👁️ eye, I made them in the shape of 3 stars ✴️ & a crecent moon 🌙 ... The same symbol that is on the back of Allison's jacket in the beginning of the video. Interesting I must of been meant 2 find this song & listen 2 it. Great song 🎶 Thanks 4 sharing .... You'll be performing in Kentucky, where I'm from, this summer with fellow Artists Chris Stapleton, Wyonna Judd & a long list of other talented artists. Hopefully, I'll be able 2go2 the concert. Sounds like a great lineup of talent. Take care of yourself Have a Great Summer 🌞 Peace

Local radio station used this tune for "bumper music" today, and it stopped me in my tracks. I had to go find it.

I'm 37 year-old Japanese man, knew this beautiful song just 2 days ago. I already don't know how many times I have repeated song... somewhat feels like a lullaby. I wish I could live in this song.

Allison Russell I got to see you perform in Bangor, ME with Hozier and you were wonderful. It touched my heart to hear you mention your daughter. I would love to see more representation of motherhood in politically relevant artistic spaces. Peace and blessings 💕 Thank you for your art.
