Allen & Heath CQ-18T vs Yamaha MG10XU Preamps through Shure SM58s into Yamaha DXR10mkiis

Музыка

just some testing to see if you can hear the difference or if I can hear the difference between the preamps from each board. Is one board worth it over the other if you don't need all the processing?

Great test, nice review! The only thing is that the camera mic is supposed to be between the 2 speakers for a better result...

Thank you and great point! I'm pretty sure when I started the comparison I slightly angled both speakers towards the phone / camera, although I'm sure it wasn't perfect. But great point and appreciate you watching 👍

That Yamaha is pretty impressive actually. But the A&H does sound better both flat and with the FX. It should, it's much newer technology and also costs about 4-5x what the Yamaha costs. Of course there are many other features the A&H has and a lot more I/O. So it's really not a fair fight. You're going to love the A&H as it's a big upgrade from the Yamaha MG10XU. However, the Yamaha still holds its own fairly well, at least in terms of the Mic Pres and FX. That said the CQ18T is probably the current best in class product for typical bar bands.

Yes thanks I agree with all that. I've always been happy with the Yamaha mixers especially the mic pres like you said. We don't need the CQ as a duo but it's nice to have as there's times I can mix full bands from out front not right on stage. That will be nice. I also have a buddy that I gig with sometimes who always wants to record. It will be nice to record right on that and just let him take the SD card. Lots of benefits to it like you said - glad to have it!

Allen&Heath CQ-18T vs Yamaha MGP24X might be a fair fight. Both have 16 mic preamps, lots of buses and real digital effects.

I have the CQ. It records just like things sound. It's everything it should be, and nothing it's not. Run an analog mixer into it, and you'll have every option you'll need.

Do you think Yamaha will be better?

I would say better for simplicity absolutely yes. Probably all depends on your needs. Of course for all out processing the Allen & Heath would be the better bet if it's needed. Longevity and durability of the Allen & Heath I can't speak to but the Yamaha MG10XU has been used many many hours, dropped and is still holding up excellent.

@@bin5199 Good question! Unfortunately I could not speak from experience on the Yamaha DM3. I am a Yamaha fanboy so if the Yamaha was a little smaller and priced like the CQ I probably would have bought it. Honestly I think they're both great mixers that share a lot of the same basic features and processing. When it comes to the fine details, one probably has some things the other one doesn't though but that's just a guess. I'm sure they're both quality pieces.
