Just picked up one of these for our rehearsal studio. The quick eq settings make things so easy in our setting. It's also super convenient to record straight to SD card and listen back at the end of rehearsal. Good stuff, Allen and Heath.

Used the CQ-20B for the first time last night. It was a quick setup and I didn’t have much time to play with all of the FX but the band I ran sound for never sounded better. They were blown away with the CQ4You App for their in ears. Bravo Allen & Heath. I’m a fan (and user) now.

This seems very user friendly for people like myself that is just learning how to EQ live bands. For people complaining about lack of features, this is a mid level mixer with a great price point. I guarantee that this is just a sort of beta console to test out for future more powerful mixers like the SQ predecessor.

I've got the same Zed 10FX. I've been out of the game a few years now. I also have and used the QSC Touchmix 8, Presonus RM16 and Behringer X air12. The other mixers I have are much larger for bigger events. I haven't seen this line yet. I've used these smaller mixers for DJ event setups, small band in-ear monitor system or just side stage floor monitor system or studio jam sessions. I do like the auto gain function...

So I got asked to help with recording a live session today. Had basically no notice. Last minute got told we're using one of these (the stage box guy) and using a mac to control the software for it. I spent maybe 15 minutes at most downloading the software on my pc so I could learn it and reading a little about it online. Got to the session it was super easy to set up. Except for a couple of minutes where we had to turn it off to move it and when we booted it back up I couldn't find it again. Fuck knows why. ANYWAYS it was super simple. Sound checked in seconds, sent everything to logic on the same mac to record. great little box. Would reccomend.

"Even if you know your stuff" This is super true. If it was a mysterious black box it would be pretty lame, but given it's showing you the processing that's being applied, this is basically a better version of "presets" Same with the auto-gain. Even though I prefer to gain stuff by hand, sometimes (especially live) the levels end up being quite different, and having the box itself bring stuff up or down to my expected reference level means I can keep a specific IEM mix setup without having to trim everything by hand every time. I wouldn't use stuff like this FOH, but for rehearsals and other situations where I want fast and easy it makes a lot of sense.

There are some odd comments at the bottom of this thread! Anyway, I have an SQ5 and an XR18 and I'm looking to chop the XR18 in for a 20B. I know A&H Pres sound much nicer than the XR18 ones. The effects are better although fewer of them (but I don't use 95% of the Behringer effects anyway). A&H app support is way superior and I like the recording to SD card and USB at the same time plus the dual band Wi-Fi built in but with external option. In my view A&H have added value to the XR18 philosophy and got the improvements just about perfect. I would like to know if the 2.4GHz can be turned off to leave 5GHz wifi only? 2.4 is too crowded as it is for amateur guitar links and IEM kit.

13:00 I’m a guitar player and I didn’t know until I started learning more about mixing but for years I’d do sound check and I’d always make it a little quieter than it should be, mainly because I’m country and most stuff I play my guitar rolled off is my main volume, but every know and then for a solo or whatever I’d turn it all the way up or hit a boost pedal and probably messed with the sound engineer. I never thought about it until I started learning about sound engineering. I still do our own sound for bands so I just want a flat mix where everything is even across the board and the spikes in volume still come from that way of doing things, but having a sound guy who knows what he’s doing - that isn’t necessary lol

Downloaded the demo and played with it for a bit. No subgroups, no DCAs, limited routing options, only 4 included fixed FXs for the FX sends (with very limited controls). Looks pretty (although the screen isn't much bigger than the average phone screen). Day late, dollar short, I think I'll stick with my Midas MR18 for $400 cheaper.

We have an Xr18 at work for corporate events. It's great in that I can set up all our wireless mics in a rack with the mixer plugged in and set up a bunch of settings for different scenarios then on the day of the event, everything is already mixed. All we have to change on the day is the main fader. The main issues we have though are feedback and the talent not speaking at a suitable distance from the microphone (have to pump up the gain to compensate and usually feedback occurs). The Allen and Heath takes care of both of those issues with someone in my team that isn't that knowledgeable with live sound able to deal with those issues very easily. We will definitely get one of these at some point soon. The subgroups and DCAs are something that could easily be implemented in a software update so I'd be surprised if it doesn't get those features in the next year or so.

The gain will effect the signal chain all the way through because it's pre the channel options. I would only really set this to specific inputs otherwise your signal paths and gain structure will be changing the whole night. I could see this being really good for a notorious guitar player or a microphone being used by multiple speakers in one session.

Sadly not. Maybe it will be an xair killer but the x32 range has too many extras that the CQ range doesn't - for example hainv Dante cards or being able to connect external boxes or other x32 units together for additional control.. If the CQ could do that too then yes it would be a killer The only way allen and heath could kill off the x32 range is if they released an SQ rack! Same amazing features as the SQ desks but in rack form with a screen.. that's the only thing missing from the SQ range but sadly CQ is too limited in comparison

  • @racesla

If I understand correctly, this is looking for clipping only on the input, so cranking up the fader won't (directly) cause a further reduction in gain. Of course they might end up sliding around gradually over time, but I can't imagine it'd be a huge problem

The CQ series is much more modern, and more powerful. But it competes more with the Behringer XR18 than the X32. The X32 is pretty old, and won't sound as nice as the CQ20b, but is much more flexible. It has digital I/O, you can use it as a stage box, it has more inputs, more outputs, and is generally super capable for IEMs. Right now the CQ series are really nice, but the lack of expandability means you'll hit their "limit" more quickly, and there's no way to expand on that. So ... I'm getting a CQ20b as an initial IEM rig, and as a small utility mixer when I do FOH work. But I'm still waiting for A&H to release essentially an "SQ Rack" or maybe a higher-specced CQ.

I have an old analog board at my church, and running the line out the whole mix does not allow any individual channel control for the livestream. Can you run a separate mix for the livestream on the Cq18t that does not affect what the room is hearing live when I make adjustments to the mix for the livestream?

can the USB B port be used with a laptop running a DAW playing backing tracks on specific USB channels? We use 3 channels from the DAW, 1 mono channel for a click track and then 2 channels L/R for the backing tracks... is that possible with any of these mixers?

I'd be interested if there was a complete-non-teccie control app option, for the vicar or the bar staff, like there is with the Qu series.

Looks great. Can inputs be configured as stereo pairs with a single fader on the screen? For example can I have 8 stereo faders on the screen at once for a keyboard setup?

Wondering if Behringer/MIDAS will release an updated and more modern version of the almost decade old XAir/MR mixers to compete with these mixers.

Is it possible to use this mixer as a standalone DAW? I recorded a track on my 18t, and can play them back fine. When I arm it to record on another track, I cannot hear the previously recorded track.

great demo. one question, do all the digital units on the table record in 48/96 sample rates. meaning I would not need a separate audio interface to convert the analog to digital. correct? thanks in advance

I wish the would have done on the 18t what they did on the 20 by using XLR Aux inputs, and also an extra 1/4” stereo input as well, even if they had to make the box a little bigger, it’s not a deal breaker you can use 1/4 in adapters but still, just one more thing you need. Makes the decision harder though because I don’t have an iPad but I’d get one if I got one of these units.

20B is a mixer just like 18T...only without built-in screen and controls. 20B is not a digital snake stagebox, think in terms or Behringer XR18, only better.

This looks like an exact replica of the Line 6 Stage source M20d from a cople of years back. Did Line 6 sell the mixer/technology to Allen & Heath? Also, I’m a little disappointed that Allen & Heath haven’t changed much in terms of features, functionality and technology from its Line 6 iteration, and that was 8 years ago!!
