    I talked to the guys at Eibach about installing the stage 2 on my f150 with the max tow package and he didn’t recommend it. How is yours doing with towing? I’m a little hesitant to install the stage 2 since the spring rating of the max tow coils are higher than the ones from Eibach. Thx!

    @@KaneWai94 oh wow I wonder if they had literature out about not installing them on a max tow package truck. If they did I missed it. So far so good. The ride is good for sure no complaints. I only towed our camper once since the install and that was a test pull for about 20 miles. Honestly this truck felt a little loose in the rear towing (before the kit) compared to the lifted GMC 1500HD I just got rid of. The GMC was solid while towing just not as much power of course as the 3.5. I can say with certainty the test pull after the kit was no worse than my test pull without the kit. If anything it was a tad better but to be fair it wasn't as windy as the pre-kit test pull. What all did they say if you don't mind me asking? Thanks!

    @@JHGurganus they told me that the max tow spring rating is higher than the spring rating for the Stage 2. So even though it will fit, it does change the tow for the max tow trucks. They actually indicated that on their product listing on the website that the stage 2 is not for trucks with CCD, which is part of the max tow pkg. I’m trying to find out if replacing the shocks would void my warranty.

    @@KaneWai94 gotcha. I just did some research and saw a random 2021 window sticker posted online that clearly stated continuously controlled damping. I checked my sticker and it does not indicate that. I also saw that the rear shocks have an electrical plug-in on them and my original shocks did not have that. I did see eibachs description that it was not for trucks with CCD before I bought it so I felt I was safe because I did not have CCD to my knowledge. I just pulled up their website again and all I see is that the stage two kit excludes trucks with CCD. I believe I feel good about it at this point since mine did not have CCD. What year and trim level is your truck? As you seen mine is an XLT FX4 3.5 with max tow but I did not have CCD.

    Hey man, I'm currently having trouble deciding between some array speakers. The DXL1K's seem to be the best prices/brand name option out there, compared to the Evolve 50 for example with the Yamaha DXL being $700 Canadian cheaper than the EV 50. The quoted SPL in the literature is 125 dB for the DXL and 127 for the EV 50 - so not a major difference on paper in SPL, but definitely a major difference in $$$ (especially considering i'd like to get a pair). I was reading through the DXL1K manual and came across a line in the manual that set off a little light in my head; I remembered how you had commented to another poster in this video comment section that you may not have set the DXL1K up properly. I decided to read the manual to see what the recommended set up might be for connecting an external mixer. So the DXL1K manual says the following regarding the Link Input Jack: "This jack supports an XLR-type plug. An input signal is output directly from the speaker. To control the tone and volume level of the signal, use a connected STAGEPAS 1K mkII or mixing console." However the wording to describe the Link input Jack in the StagePas 1K MkII manual is quite different: "This jack supports an XLR-type plug. Connect the [LINK] output jack of the STAGEPAS 1K mkII to the [LINK] input jack of a second unit (another STAGEPAS 1K mkII or a DXL1K) (see page 13 “Playing audio in stereo”). We recommend that you use this jack if you plan to input a line-level signal from an external device such as a mixing console." The last sentence being the important section. I am thinking that you might have just plugged into channel 1 and set it to Line signal instead of using the Link Input which is apparently what Yamaha recommends but FAIL to include this vital senstence in the the DXL1K manual.. I dunno, it just seems weird to me that there would be so much trouble with clipping the inputs for you... perhaps the double gain staging of the input gain on your mixer into the input gain of the DXL mic/Line input (instead of the Link Input which goes direct to the speakers) was your trouble? I wish I had one to test this theory. There's no inventory anywhere near me but I'd sure love to save myself $1400 CAD on a pair of DXL's as opposed to the Evolve 50's which still would still require an extra soft cover purchase on top for each sub... Can you remember if you plugged into the mic/line channel 1 or the Link Input? Thanks man, New sub here. really liking your channel coverage of the Evolve stuff. Wish you would hung onto the DXL for a couple weeks longer!! - Richard

  • @JHGurganus
    @JHGurganus9 күн бұрын

    @@TheJamSpace hey thanks for the sub. You know what? You may be absolutely right on what you wrote to me. I went back and peeked at my video and I guess I don't remember if I was using the link input or not when I played through the mixer and I see I for sure used it when I was talking through the mic. To be honest with you, I may have been using input number one again instead of the link input which would definitely have been a mistake on my end according to what you wrote. I think I ultimately became frustrated with the dxl because I wanted the original stagepas 1K to work out but I just wasn't happy with the output. I had high hopes for the DXL because I guess I'm a Yamaha fanboy but maybe I didn't take the time to read the manual good enough. Honestly, dang you may be absolutely right, I wish I would have tried that link input and I doubt that I did because I thought maybe that was just for linking the first stagepas into it but as the manual states possibly a mixing console. Ironically, I was literally sitting here looking at column systems once again when I received your message. I like the physical controls on the stagepas 1K mkii and would prefer them to being forced to menu dive if I did not use a device to control it. I'm sure I had input one on line when I ran the mixer into it but maybe it would have definitely done better using the link input. Thanks again for the the heads up on this man! I'm definitely going to have to check into this a little later tonight. I will tell you though, out of all the column systems I've owned, I probably liked the original evolve 50 the best output and sound quality wise. I'll probably pull up the manual for the DXL and the 1K mkii a little bit later and give it a good read. Thanks again and let me know if you have any other questions and good luck deciding! Oh on another note I have switched back to using Yamaha dxr10 mkiis since last October or November I think and have been totally happy with them but again I was currently looking into a column speaker again.

If I'm reading the stereo outputs on the mg10xu and CQ-18T correctly, the Yamaha puts out +24 and the Allen & Heath puts out +22. I really appreciate you pointing that out. Honestly I never thought of that and I wish I would've read the manual. I guess I'm so used to plugging into regular 2 way powered tops that I didn't even think about the DXLs being different. @@hakdwak you're welcome. I think the dbr and dxr series sound really close to each other and I believe (but I've never tested) the differences become apparent once you start reaching max SPLs. If the space you're trying to fill needs only 1 speaker, then you're good with just 1. If the spaces you need to fill normally require 2 speakers for proper coverage, then I would try to use the same speakers (if possible) at the very least for aesthetic reasons.

    It’s crazy how the width also has an effect on the height. Even though the RT is a 70 it’s still taller

    Yes it is crazy! I sometimes think it's an illusion once you get things mounted up on your vehicle. I recently sold my GMC and picked up a newer F-150. Literally just ordered an eibach stage 2 kit for it. I plan to keep as much fuel economy as possible so I will not be going very big on that tire and wheel combination either. But, from past experience, I have certainly found that with the right wheel the whole wheel and tire package may look bigger than what it actually is.

    Hello. Have you got the chance to test the Dxr12 mkii outdoor with more than an acoustic guitar and one or two singers ? With a small band (4 people max) ? I have already a sub 15 inches and I’d like to buy PA speakers to replace my current stagepas400 too limited for gigs outdoor. Thanks ;-)

  • @JHGurganus
    @JHGurganus5 күн бұрын

    Sorry just saw this. Yes absolutely we have used two dxr12s and two dxs15 subs outside with a band of five and sometimes six with mic'd drums. I have also used two dxr12s in a duo with one acoustic guitar and myself and a female on vocals to cover 250 plus people in an outdoor open air concert in the park. I respect the stagepas 400 and 600 systems and I used to have a couple different Stagepas 600 systems in the past. The 600 definitely got the job done, and though I never had them side by side, I feel the dxr12s would run past the stagepas system pretty easy when pushed. Hope that helps!

    Do the new ones come with the fishman or the shadow still which do you prefer

    I'm pretty sure the new ones come with the fishman from what I've seen but I've not checked lately. I prefer the shadow. The shadow takes CR2032 batteries which I have found last a very, very long time.

    I have a guy arguing with me that the stickers make NO difference in sound, despite them blocking the dispersion pattern of the HF wave guide... told me I had "limited" knowledge, despite me being a sound engineer for over 40 years. 😂

    I don't have as much live sound knowledge as you but in my almost 20 years of setting up and tearing down live sound for our small group, I agree with you 100% that the stickers would have an effect on the horns dispersion 👍
