All The Pleasure Without The Pain - Cliff Read's NHRA-Legal Metal Gasser

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Cliff Read turns a die-cast "American Graffiti" toy into a '55 Chevy gasser drag race car model that complies with the rules from the '62 NHRA Rule Book. And he gives us a tip on joining metal parts for a better scale model car build. Recorded at the NNL Nationals #40, Toledo, Ohio, October 2019.

My Friend Bruce Cole is 10 years Older than Me I Was Amazed to Discover Some of His Models Were Disassemble And Redecorated and Even Modified Die Casts. I'd Never Thought of it. By The Time I Met Bruce He Had Severe MS His one Arm & Habd Were Almost Useless and Had No Movement Hus other side Was,Down to 20 percent Motor Skill function but He Still Did Amazing Model Cars although He was so Handicapped Many of his Models were Better Than Mine ! I'm Blessed to Have had His Friendship he was Such a Inspiration

This was an extremely interesting interview. This right here needs to be watched by all of those DieCast haters. I never understood that view. Who cares what material a model is made of. Don't have plastic tunnel vision. You only deprive yourself of some great model car building. I LOVE modifying diecast. I have one in the works right now.

I have known the Read brothers for many years and shared build sessions with them. I think they enjoy sharing their techniques and ideas as much as they enjoy building the models. Thanks for the great video.

Doug great video.I haven't built a plastic model now for about 40 years.I started building diecast cars a very long time ago.Being a long time drag racer myself and mechanic I have built nearly 400 cars from 1/64 to 1/18.Love plastic but love metal more it just feels real.

Doug, another great video, as you know , I have modified MANY die cast cars, for the mint and private clients, it really is a great way to add variety, and when stripped down, its just a metal model car!!!

Wow !! Very impressed w/ the final result of that '55 Gasser. The single tone paint job compliments the race componentry. I know that particular American Graffiti kit well - quality casting of '55 sedan. Thank you for sharing that masterpiece ! !

I have 2 Pressed Steel Trucks with no trailers. One from the 30s and one from the 40s. I left the patina on both and scratch built two different trailers. The 30s structo got a rack side flat bed with an air dam from a Maxwell house coffee can. Removable sides and tailgate latches. Recessed taillights. The 40s structo is a low boy!!

Another great video Doug, keep them coming! This was a very exceptional video about working with Diecast, and Cliff Read, really knows his stuff. Is there any chance you could Cliff and his brother to do a video on one of their builds, from start to finish? I am sure you would have many model car builders very interested in watching one of their videos!

What I like most about it is the paint looks in scale so don’t get me wrong is a Lotta good finishes, but they just look too thick. However, they are polished and smooth. They just look too thick and out of scale if you look at door jams and window frames.

I have a car to show its a 1953 Cadillac eldorado 1/16 scale originally a Danbury mint model that I bought back in the mid-1980s and kept stock all these years up until recently when I decided to do some modifications... The big problem here is that I don't know how to show it to you on this format.

I've bought a heap of 1:18th diecast 50's-60's VW's and Porsches which I'll be customising. Example: a VW Vanagon which I'm converting to a single cab pickup, lengthening the wheelbase so it can carry a VW Beetle race car. I'm also making the REAL THING, so the model will help me visualise the real pickup and race car so they look right (easier to make design changes to a 1:18th scale model than the full size van). I'll be using resin moulds off the diecast bodies plus fusion 360 and a 3D printer to produce the custom parts. Another is a diecast Porsche 356 coupe which will be modified 'outlaw' style, which I'm also building a REAL version of using a Porsche Kit Car body on a VW floorpan. Both the real Pickup and real Porsche will be fully electric.

I have a question…… and I don’t want to piss ya all off. Do you think metal models are hurting or helping the plastic model industry? OR are most made by model companies? I just don’t know? 🤔🇨🇦👍.
