Pirlo went back to his peak in 2012 when Milan won the league title and then almost single handedly carried juevtnus 3 years in a row between 2013 to 2015. Specially in the 2012 2013 when juventus was never winning. Juve signed pirlo because Milan thought he was past his prime and he became the best player in Italy again

That scandal (as in 1982) was a key motivation for that team. FIFA World Cup history showed that it's not "to be World champion" what brings you to success, but deeper motivations... and Lippi knew that.

The first world cup which I watched and undoubtedly the best. That pass from pirlo to grosso still fresh in the memories.

For me. Someone who has followed Italian football since the mid 90S and followed the Azzuri for all those years, this is the creme de la creme. The defining moment of all my heroes. Just wish Baguio and Maldini were there. This was the pinnacle of my heroes.

I remember this world cup like it was yesterday. Was so nervous in the penalty shootout. My mum side of the family are all Italian. My grandad partied like he was in his 20s the night they won

Gilardino was underrated. The assist to Del Piero was brilliant. In fact, he done this few times with Kaka' in Milan.

For example argentina destroyed Croatia in the semis. France scored to morroco too soon. Argentina event 0 0 against Netherlands and Germany destroyed Brazil too badly 7 to 1. Croatia did have a classic goal in extra time versus England but it was not the same level of quality. And France well France didn't really sweat against Belgium. In 2010 Spain dominated their games too much and again netherlands scored too soon. That's why this goal is special. How beautiful it was. In a close game against Germany in Germany. 🤣🤣🤣 only those who know football will get this joke. I think it was Alex Ferguson and cruyff who said Inzaghi was born to be offside. In my opinion he was one of the last true breed of football poachers. He thrives playing on the shoulder of the last defender. Sometimes it was annoying but it got him a lot of big goals.

Simply the best world cup ever. At that time I was still 11 years old and I was the only one supporting Italy in my class. The other boys were mostly supporting Brazil and France. They mocked me, saying that Italy didn't even have a chance to through into final, let alone winning it. Even when Italy finally got into final, all of them said that France gonna win it. The day after the final, I went to school very proudly, wearing a big smile, and when I entered the classroom, my classmates congratulated me. It was an amazing and unforgettable moment.

All of Italy's goal are amazing.

So how many striker do you want to score in a single world cup? Italy: *yes*

The 1990 team/squad was the best (Pagliuca, Zenga, Baresi, Maldini, Ferrara, Ferri, Vierchowod, Bergomi, Giannini, Mancini, Ancelotti, Berti, Donadoni, Baggio, Vialli, Schillaci....). Why the coach dropped Baggio for the semi final, I'll never know. They also played the most attractive and attacking football that I've ever seen from the Azzurri.

@@DrMegaton Hubner was a terrific player, very effective. Quite the character too. Even though Baggio was 35 at the time, he was still one of the best players in Serie A. Playing some of the best football of his career with Brescia. He even made a record recovery (81 days) from an ACL/meniscus tear to put himself in the reckoning. He also warranted a call up. As did Pirlo, who had the creativity that Trap's picks in central midfield were desperately lacking.

Was only 12 in 2006 but what a time it was. My local pizzeria had the whole neighborhood over to watch the game on 2 large TVs with tents. They gave out free food, sold shirts etc. after it was over we paraded on the nearest boulevard. Much love to my family in Pescara, Abruzzo
