Brandon Sanelli ,the golden generation of italian football team 2006 ,especially Buffon..

Besides Trezeguet's history of missed penalties, as Lippi mentioned, he played under Lippi *and* was teammates with Buffon in Juventus -- probably meant extra pressure for him...

If you want to win the World Cup, the team needs to come first and foremost before any player's ego. This was Italy's strength in 2006, Spain in 2010, and Germany in 2014. None of these teams had one star player.

they had all many star players, just not any particular player standing out from the others (e.g. Ronaldo, Messi...etc.)

2010's Spain were different case, they were full of stars. What surprised me was Netherlands, they had only like 3 star players, and they were all performing out of everyone's mind, especially Sneijder, he carried the whole team. Had Netherlands had better defenders (imagine the keeper was v Der Sar, defender was Stam), they would've won.

@@andrenapitupulu9499 I don't think the Netherlands lost because of their defense tho. Robben wasted two one-on-ones and I don't remember any major mistakes made by the defenders in the final.

Oh I remember what a glorious time, Liverpool becoming European champions year before as Italy winning World Cup I was in heaven. Also my roger Federer winning Wimbledon - at his peak! That was a wonderful time

What a team

Lippi for me was the best coach, the only flaws in his career were his mistreatment of Baggio and the high number of finals lost with Juventus. But surely a World Cup title has to cancel out all that. He truly masterminded that success, Italy were a mess when he took over after 4 years of dinosaur-style football by Trapattoni.

Lippi did it with class
