Keep it up, BMW. You're making the C. Bangle era looks pretty good. For the next models, don't even think, hire chinese designers only. Also, put a screen in the driver's footwell, so they can accelerate and brake the car using a touchscreen system. Make everything as techy as possible, and do not care about your own history, that's all we're asking.

I did it because culturally, chinese aren't allowed to be creative, that's why so many chinese cars or cars developed for chinese market are similar to models already seen. I can think of a plethora of beautiful american and european cars, but I can't think of any remarkable chinese model. It's just the way it is, unfortunately.

As a lifelong car enthusiast, you feel something is very wrong with the world, when any kind of a new car release don't excite you whatsoever.

On the road, I still find old BWW much better than the new ones, design wise. BMW new design is gonna kill the brand. Even the Chinese who join the party only recently can do a better design

I can’t believe they got rid of the centre console controls for the screen, BMW were the only one left after Audi and Mercedes went completely touch screen and now they’ve done the same. I personally hate having to only rely on touchscreen, especially whilst driving… one of the reasons I chose the 1 series!

How come it's still an Fxx model? Is it because it's really similar to the F40? You'd expect them to have the 1er adopt the Uxx designation by now.

Man, am I glad I got a 1 series before this "refresh". Also, what happened to their infotainment system controls? They are (or were) probably the best in the biz! the big wheel made it so easy to control it even on the move. What a massive step-back, in my opinion.

Loss of iDrive controller is a big UX miss! We sold our X1 and bought an X3 (and almost a Mercedes!) as we couldn't live with the touch screen only option in iDrive 8.5.

I have the current M135i xDrive. Overall i think this new M135 looks cleaner, but i think the exterior looks are less sporty than current M135i model. For example, it looks like there is no additional front splitter on the M135 to differentiate it from the m-sport. Also, is that contrasting black roof standard on the new 1 series?

I also have the current m135i they definitely could of done a lot better with this new model if you can call it that, it looks more like a facelift from the back but most of all I can’t believe they’ve made it slower with less power 😂

BMW stockholders are seeking higher profits, leading to the hiring of more cost-effective designers who work remotely. In fact, these designers have not even seen the cars prior to their release. Additionally, there has been a focus on cost-cutting in terms of plastics and other materials. Meanwhile, Matt uses his phone's light to see what's inside the glovebox, since they trimmed the light recently :).

Why can't they hide the ugly black square sensor in the centre of the grill. 😢

The 1 series was a real bimmer until second gen. From then on its only been downhill.

It used to be a great little hatchback with rear wheel drive. Then they switched it to front wheel drive, making the 1 series essentially pointless.

I really like the subtle redesign here - love the side profile with the more sloping sporty line of the bonnet and I’ve always liked the rear of the 1 series. The interior looks like a fresh upgrade and although many are commenting on the ‘generic’ looks of this model, I think it fits the market segment really well and love that the design looks less like it’s been chiselled from a single block of rock like some of the other recent BMW designs. In the UK the Auto AC is an £480 option! Really? (I hope that’s an error with the online configurator!). A shame we don’t be getting the 123 2L in the UK (initially at least) for those who are not fans of 1.5L 3 cylinder engines. Styling wise though I really like it.

I’m glad these are out as it’ll make the now last gen model drop in price second hand and that’s a nice car.

Will the mild hybrid overcome the occasional lag when pulling away from rest with the DCT transmission? The press release suggests it will ‘enhance its spontaneous power delivery’ - could you try and comment on this when you do a test drive? I’ve heard so many reviews talk about the random delay in power pulling away from rest with the BMW DCT gearbox it has put me off considering any cars with it (such as the X1 which I would otherwise consider). I think it appears to be more of a feature of DCT gearboxes as I understand it happens with other manufacturers as well but it would be interested to know if you find it’s better with the 1 series with a mild hybrid solution.

The feedback is that when you pull away from standstill there is a slight delay sometimes before you actually move (something to do with the twin parts of the gearbox getting in sync?). This can cause some concern if you’re trying to enter a busy roundabout or pull out of a road with not great visibility and need to guarantee immediate power. I’d be grateful for any feedback you find! I really think they have done a good job design wise with this car for the market it is designed for.

In Portugal, only the 116d F40 were the sales base, now that BMW ends that model, I don´t know, tough times for the 2025 series 1, I think, we will see. Thank you.

jsut to remind you the CLA is a coupe sedan and not a hatchback the a klasse hatchback is not a electric yet so you might have to wait till the Neue klasse version of the 1 series comes.

Wow, as always unexpectedly. I'm pleasantly surprised. Good job, Thomas and Lia. BMW is pumping out new models very fast. The new X3 is coming out as well. I just saw the M50i version test drive and i can sadly say it falls a bit into the raindrop design pit, sad for the most handsome suv, but at least the 1-er is good.

I think you're right! There's the exact same crease that goes down the side of the body to the gas cap. Interesting to see how some brands are calling a heavy facelift a new generation. Like how the 2025 Toyota Camry has the same doors and shifter, while the competing Honda Accord changed everything but the platform.

It’s an absolutely brutal design. Can’t say anything positive about the exterior design. I know it’s been a joke to say BMWs looks like Kia’s in recent years but I genuinely thought it was a Kia Ceed.

It has a face only a mother can love💀

We really have hit peak gimmick in cars. Very hard to differentiate with features these days so it's all about lightning and graphics. Not just BMW's issue, the whole industry seems to be struggling.

BMW went insane with the M135 pricing. Great review. I like the interior though

Love the design!, pretty cool evolution without massive grilles. Prices crazy though
