I spent A day on the Maverick 95ti in lake tahoe California. I agree with basically everything you have said. I also have said to a few of my friends that I think it is the most well rounded all mountain ski I have ever been on! It literally does everything well. (Maybe not park) Groomers, trees, bumps, spring conditions, firm. Soooo impressed. Very Little thinking, just ski it!

"Titanal" is the correct term for the aluminum alloy used in skis, and the presenter uses it correctly. The word that flashes onscreen, "titanium," is entirely wrong. Nobody ever puts titanium, a different metal, in skis, but marketers use the word because it sounds cool - and marketers lie, if it suits them.

As a ski rental owner and ski teacher I could have easily guessed how any of those skis would behave and I can tell you have been honest on your review. I like easy to turn, all terrain performers like yourself which translates into tip and tail rocker, no metal inside, Skis matching skier's high +-5 cm and a little less than 100 underfoot. I have had two pairs of Rossi's Soul 7, one of them passed to my son. Now I am on blizzard touring skis trying to escape from the multitudes...

@@michaelmurphy8016 I have heard the Blizzard Rustler 9 and 10 are good options. If you wish to put touring bindings on them think of the black Crows Camox also. Try to find something that weights less than 2200 gr. With a turning radius less than 19 meters and a bit less than 100 underfoot with rocker on tip and tail.

Blizzard Rustler 9 with its single layer of Titinal that ends before it reaches the ends of the ski and generous rocker in the shovel and tail would be a good choice for you. This is a playful ski that will hold a carve on firm snow. This is my everyday ski at Alta, Utah USA we receive an average of 1367 cm a season. On deep power days I ski the Rustler 10 or the 11 if the snow is waist deep.

I'm mildly disappointed that there were no awful skis... Sometimes you just want to hear that a big player crashed and burned you know... like the train wreck you can't look away from.

Nice review. Sooooo much data and choice in the ski equipment world, like most markets. I have been a skier since leather lace boots and screw on edges. I have 6 pairs of skis and 2 sets of boots that I rotate between depending on my ski day. At this place in my ski journey it is about overall experience from the time we gather for the drive there, the conversations, and my turns are great when I make them right, its my technical ability not so much which skis I’m on. Choice what your research leads you to then study how to ski!!!

Can't help but think the Norse is based on Dynastar's Ledgend which evolved from the Dynastar Cham. Same 15 to 20 cms from Tip to Rocker (depending on ski length) so therefore skis short on piste and the 100mm under foot not too fat. Nice reviews.

I’m currently using the elan Voyager. It is not an all-mountain ski for sure. I had difficulty driving on the powder too. But to mention the dimensions it is aimed to be easy transportation, therefore the size can’t be too big otherwise you will exceed 100cm after folding it. It is fit for middle-sized person and I happen to handle the 166 length well.

It was sooooo nice to hear an honest opinion of the Rossignol Experience. I had the 88 Ti last season and couldn’t sell it fast enough! Too many paid reviews raved about it 😮

Sounds like you didn't know yourself very well. The EXP 88Ti is a great ski for some people, but not for a park/freeride-oriented skier like the reviewer (or apparently you). There is a reason why Rossi also offers the very different Sender 94 and the Blackops 92 in basically the same width. The "All-mountain" category is inherently vague, because the term is itself sort of a Rorschach test. Every skier sees whatever (and however) they ski as the entirety of the mountain, and their definitions and expectations vary accordingly. When the reviewer here spelled out his background I knew immediately what skis he would and wouldn't like, and that has nothing to do with how "good" or "bad" they are. If he'd been an extremely strong (and heavy) ex-racer instead then his preferences might have been almost completely opposite. Example: I absolutely love the old 192 cm Dynastar Pro Rider and 189 cm Fischer 107Ti as "all mountain" skis, and the Faction Dancer/Dictator 2 as a narrower ski for noodling around in moguls. Those are all extremely heavy and/or stiff and directional "comp skis" (the Dancer is very stiff but not heavy, the Pro Rider is extremely heavy but softer than many people think, while the Fischer is both heavy and stiff), and I can guarantee you that this reviewer would be howling if he tried any of them. But they're perfect under the feet of a much heavier ex-racer who knows how to drive the living daylights out of them 100% of the time and has no expectations of "playfulness".

@@patrickchase5614 Hi Patrick. I am an ex ski racer. I have the Black Ops Escaper and the Volkl Deacon 84. You’re right-there are no inherently good or bad skis. What I appreciated most about this review was someone’s honest opinion. And mine’s the same about the Experience 88Ti-I hated it and was sooooo happy to be rid of it. Thanks for your opinion though-everyone has the right to say how they feel (just as I and the reviewer did).

@@scottm3775 Fair enough. So TBH what triggered me was the "paid review" bit. I know people who I respect and who definitely aren't paid who love that ski, so I don't think that the implication of corruption is fair. I do not like the EXP myself BTW. If I want something that frontside-oriented I'll hop on my Head eSpeed, iGS, or iSG (which I choose depends on how empty the mountain is and how antisocial I feel). I think that there are such things as bad skis (ones that are dominated by competitors for all conceivable uses and preferences), but IMO that isn't one of them. There are also skis that are ridiculously misbranded, but again I don't see that here. I also thought the review was well done. He stated his "priors and preferences" (park/moguls coach, skis playfully) and made it clear that he was judging based on those. The title of the video ("awful ones") is clickbait, but the content is great. He was also reasonably fair to the Stance 96, which is approaching my kind of all-mountain ski (but not charge-y enough).

Can any of these be used in park?

You don't mention weight except for once with the salomn stance 96...I am a heavier advanced skiier, approx 130 kilos, and the Salomon seem to be the best of the pack for heavier, taller skiiers...what about the mavericks? TIA

I don’t think you need to do too much different being taller. If heavier, you may want a little more stiffness. The width of the ski will be more about what you’re skiing in; Wider for Powder, skinnier for control on harder terrain. Around 90-100 width under foot is usually a good middle ground for all terrain

Petter the ski tester is 187 cm and 80 kg, he usually rides around 180 cm when it comes to all mountain skis.

So…which ones were “awful”?

The Maverick uses pure titanium. Not a mixture. And I agree, insanely great ski!

No, it uses Titanal just like everybody else in the industry. Titanal is a proprietary Aluminum alloy that is very similar in composition and processing to Al 7068 (I researched AMAG's patents a while back). Ironically Titanal contains no Titanium at all. It's an extremely good alloy for use in skis though. There is a reason why you don't see people tweaking metal skis as often as they used to.

@@patrickchase5614 I asked the rep at our ski shop twice. When he said titanium I was surprised and asked him again because I know it’s expensive. He actually helped develop the skis so I guess I’ll take his word. And regardless, it skis really great.

That's great! Buying used stuff is killer for both economy and environment, and keeping the stuff we actually buy in shape and using them a long, long time is really important for the same reasons!

Poplar core is no good. Screw that ski. I don't want it.

Based on my 58 years of skiing and teaching on all types of skis and lengths, here's the deal, the reality, of skis today. 1. No matter what ski or length you buy, you have to adapt your body to it. Your upper body positioning has to be adjustable to make the skis work in all types of conditions and grades. Example: There are all types of cars from Smart Cars to Formula One. They all go forward and back and make turns but your input is going to vary to make them work in every conmdition and situation. Even cars in the same class, race cars for instance, each one will require specific inputs from you to make it work at it's peak performance. 2. Back to skis. Each ski in each class, in each available length, will need adjustments in your input to make them work on the exact same line down a given slope. 3. Basically, the slower you want to go, the shorter the ski. The faster you want to go, the longer the ski. Go karts have very short wheel bases. Land speed cars have very long wheelbases. You need the right length for the speed you plan on going. 4. When I ski, all I do is evaluate the skiers around me. 9 out ot 10 skiers ski incorrectly. Their input is all wrong and defeats the design intention of the skis. They actually ski as if they have wood 1x4's with screwed on edges and force the skis to turn instead of allowing them to perform as designed. It is NOT your fault!!! It is the way you were taught and unfortunatily, the way you are Still taught today. So, what you have on your boots doesn't really matter much. So here is the way for you to buy skis. a. Pick you favorite brand. b. Pick your favorite color to match your boots and cloths. I'm not kidding! c. Go to the best ski shop in your ski area and tell them how you ski. A video on your cell phone will be of great help. Like I said, it really doesn't matter much. d. Rent a few different skis from them and choose the ones you like the best. Understanding what skiing is and what the skis need from you is the answer, not which skis you have on. No matter what ski "I" put on, I would have to adapt to what it needs.

In which country a ski is manufactured / developed does not affect the grade a ski receives in our tests. Different people may experience the same ski differently. What is your favorite all mountain ski? What did you think of the Norse ski?
