How To Pick The Best All-Mountain Ski For 2023 | Piste Off TV
The humble all-mountain ski. Kind of like the middle child of the family: doesn’t get to do all the fun stuff like the eldest (the powder ski), yet isn’t living in a controlled and sheltered environment, like the youngest of the family (the beginner ski).
Featuring a moderate waist width, varying use of both tip and tail rocker and an approachable flex rating, all-mountain skis are easily the most versatile skis out there: the kind you reach for when you’re unaware of the conditions that may be coming your way. This versatility makes all-mountain skis the closest ski you can get to that dream one ski quiver.

Knowing what these terms mean is one thing. But it's really great to see someone explain exactly what effects rocker/camber/effective-edge/etc actually have on the performance of a pair of skis.

In the first of the four categories, you describe the 'Piste Focused' skis as having a flat tail. The first example of such a ski is the Mindebender 99 TI?! It has tail rocker and is better in soft snow than on packed snow, IMO. The Mindbender would fit into the Freeride category better. And for that post focused ski, the Völkl Kendo, Blizzard Brahma would be much better examples.

idk if anyone will acknowledge this bc the vid is 2 years old but what would anyone recommend for an east coast skier who wants a more park/freestyle oriented ski to be able to hit jumps and have some maneuverability for grabs and slide rails and stuff but also something reliable for tree skiing and more typical groomers? snow around here is usually pretty hard, but sometimes it can get powdery. skill level is probably around higher end of intermediate, but im still new to park and really want to try to get into it more going forward. im like 5’11 and weigh 150. any advice would be great, thanks and God bless🙏

Super helpful video! What would you recommend for a slalom skier who still loves to be able to do shorter radius carving turns but wants something playful that can hold its own in deeper powder? Two ends of the spectrum I know but does anything suit?

Great video! I currently ski Mindbender 99ti's but was thinking of going for a smaller width under foot for this season. Do you think something like the Mindbender 85 or Atomic Vantage 86c would be worth it? Or do you think I should stick with the 99ti's? Location: East Coast - primarily resorts in Vermont, New Hampshire and New York Use: All Mountain - hard pack, trees and some jumps Height: 5'11 Weight: 180 Skill Level: Strong Intermediate

What is your opinion about a Fish-Tail? Espacially on the line sakana.

  • @FactoryCollectiveOfficial

Fished tailed designs are usually reserved for powder boards, so it was really interesting to see Line bring the design to an all-mountain width. I'd recommend you spend some time demoing a pair of Sakanas, they don't ski like any other all-mountain ski, due to the tails. They definitely prefer to be driven from the tips. With that being said, they're still able to rip up the groomers and spring slush surprisingly well!

What would ur recommendation be, for the best all mountain freestyle ski right now on the marked?

  • @FactoryCollectiveOfficial

    @FactoryCollectiveOfficial

    3 жыл бұрын

Hey Tesie. That's a tough one, as it really depends on your personal preferences. For me personally, it would have to be the Volkl Revolt 104 or Armada Stranger. Both of them are super playful across the entire mountain. It's also worth checking out the Bent Chetler 100. We've got video reviews of these skis on our channel. Check them out! Cheers, Jordan

@@FactoryCollectiveOfficial @Mpora ok ty, helped me a lot. How would you compare the volkl revolt 104 to the faction prodigy 2.0 skis. I am not quite sure what to choose between these two. I am skiing now for about 10 years und I am now 18 years old. I thought about buying skis now that I can ride all over the mountain but especially on the piste. I have a bit fast riding style and got some tricks that I do, like 3s... . So would like some skis that can handle higher speed but also are playful and good for jumps/slides in the park. If u could help me find my right skis, I would be really thankful cause there are so many skis out there and I kinda got lost and don't know what to chose.

Hi, I for now look for an allmountain that is playfull but easy to ski icy and moguls pistes. For 2022, I spotted the Völkl Blaze 86 and a swedish ski brand I never heard of : Norse The Enduro … any advice before I purchase one or the other ? Do U know Norse ? Tks a lot 07.01.2022

I have the blaze 94 at 186cm. The blaze is wood construction except under foot it’s titanium. Its designed with lots of rocker and is flexible on the ends. Both these features favour powder snow. You mentioned icy and moguls. So I would say no for that reason. The Kendo or something stiffer would probably be the way for you to go. For me personally I would get the Mantra. But I need it wider because of all the snow we get here in BC. If your not doing powder at all then the Decon may be your ski. You will never find a ski that does it all. You have to be realistic about the conditions you usually are in. Im at the point where I need more than one set of skis so I can have something I can take depending on if we get a dump of snow or not.

Hey Esmeralda. It sounds like you want a bit of everything, so I'm afraid you're going to have to make sacrifices somewhere, as 2204JCM has already mentioned. What's your ability level? Given you're looking for a playful all-mountain ski, I'd definitely recommend you test the Volkl Revolt 87. Cheers, Jordan

  • @FactoryCollectiveOfficial

Depends on the resort and your style of riding dude. We're based in Europe and predominately ski Euro resorts. I just used the East/West coast of North America example as they're two totally different weather systems. I'd say a good Euro all-mountain ski is 90 - 105 mm, with a good mixture of camber and rocker. But again, it depends on your ski style. Let me know what areas of the mountain you like skiing the most (park, piste or off piste) and I'll try select a few skis for you to check out.
