He was told to destroy the broken ancient remains of the fleet and erase all data concerning its existence. And then when he returns to his ship, suddenly he knows about an incomplete super weapon that has not yet been mentioned? Seems like we are missing part of the story here.

Hey I did the same thing I was born in 1960 and my Uncle was an All Star Wrestler back in the day with Gene Kiniski and Steve Little Bear those are the names that I remember but those guys and more of them had I guess you would call a little comic book club they all bought comic books and amongst themselves they bought every comic book that was printed that month and shared them amongst each other and then they would give them to me I was one lucky kid who ended up with hundreds and hundreds of them and before I was 6 I was reading Sci-Fi and once Star Trek started in 66 I was hooked lol. This video came on and I thought it was a movie but when I realized it was a story I was going to put something else on and by the time I found something I had been listening and I was hooked lol

It sounds like multi-drafts of the story got accidently edited in an odd order? Ah, s*** happens. ;-) In the first part they used a shuttle and drop ships, then they had transporters. Don't talk, shoot! Where did the data go that you had? One moment it seemed they were making peace with their enemy's, they find the Human and their back waring. Someone was in a hurry to publish this and sounds like they didn't proof read it?

Some things dont really make sense. So the Kredox were driven back into hiding mostly by humans and some other species , they were a myth but the moment Zorgax looks for the weapons parts, they suddenly appear and they have a known territory ? If that is the case why did it took them so long to look for Human Tech, specially in areas where they were defeated, makes no sense. Had Zorgax discovered the human fleet 1 week or days later, would the Kredox have already the "human weapon" assembled by then?

The writing is really good, so much so that it makes up for other flaws. Having said that - some of the plot points really need to be thought out better for 2nd edition. How did Kradox not find out about this super-weapon from millenia ago? Was there a spy / mole leaking critical intelligence to them? No obvious attempts to find them and stop them? Was the 3rd module already found by the Kradox? Why was it in the middle of one of their military bases? If they had it for some time, did they not reverse engineer it? Wasn't the Intrepid essentially destroyed in the battle where they first used the human super-weapon? How is it seemingly back in action in the next scene?

It seems like this portion of the Federation story was written by a committe or with diverging plot lines that were knitted unsuccessfully together. Was it written with AI? Some portions seem not, yet other portions almost go like a story outline that had trouble resolving. Otherwise there certainly had action, danger and a bare minimum of detail to conclude the story, like a novel that got edited down to a novelette for magazine publication. Reminded me of the Hornblower by Forester, but with minimal character development. It was entertaining, though.
