ALIENS (1986) MOVIE REACTION - THIS IS HOW YOU DO A SEQUEL! - First Time Watching - Review

Ойын-сауық

Welcome to our first-time reaction to the Aliens movie. This movie came out in 1986 and I cannot stress enough how good the practical effects hold up today. It brought the spine-chilling atmosphere that the original had and dialed it up to 11!
This iconic sci-fi horror film is truly one of James Cameron's masterpieces. The man just knows how to mix action with suspense and this movie right here is a perfect example. We got to see more of the Xenomorphs and I mean A LOT MORE. It never gets old to see that incredible design!
This movie had it all! Horror elements, suspense and some intense action sequences that are unforgettable. We loved catching up with Ripley who is portrayed once again by the incredible Sigourney Weaver. This time around there is no Nostromo to worry about. Instead we return to the planet LV-426 with an entire squad of marines and Ripley as a sort of consultant to literally confront the Xenomorphs! What could go wrong!?
We hope you enjoy our reactions and commentary as we discuss the film and how it has become a stapple of sci-fi horror but also how this movie continues to elevate the Xenomorphs into the "Iconic cinematic monsters" category.
So get ready for more suspense, more action, more of the facehugger!
Sit back and relax as we embark in this absolute nightmare. Let's immerse ourselves once again into this dangerous world filled with Aliens.

Supposedly, the script was originally titled "Mother". James Cameron says that he wrote scripts for fun and came up with an idea for space marines marooned on a desert planet with hive-like space bugs. The title "Mother" was in reference to a human mother who lost her child against the space bug "mother" as you point out. Supposedly, when Cameron was offered the sequel to Alien, he was asked if he had any ideas to which Cameron said, "I have a few" pulled out the script for "Mother" changed the names and reconfigured the main character to be Ripley and turned it in.

Hicks sleeping during the Drop, that’s not a defense mechanism, its a nod to the fact that Grunts of any military branch, are usually run so ragged that they can and will sleep anywhere they can. They only had enough money to make 4 Xenomorph suits for the entire movie. The Xenos did NOT "cut the power". The power was shut down by the computer (AI) because the reactor is trying to dissipate the excessive heat that was caused by the damage from the initial contact under the cooling towers. The marines damaged the system when they started shooting. The system will keep cutting power to reduce the load on the system until it can not keep up. (Why the builders/ designers didn’t set it up so it would shut down completely on its own is a mystery.) Shes not wearing “Chucks” shes wearing Reebok Stompers (circa 2122).

It featured Marines evacuating civilians through a invested colony. It had people in Xenomorph suits and holograms. I went there as a teenager and was traumatised... the acting was on point and the effects were amazing... i was scared out of my skin. I also tripped at the end of the tour and fell behind... so much so that the actors in Xenomorph suits had to improvise and started grabbing us and pulling us back into the "Hive"... i ran out crying my eyes off. Best experience ever... especially since i have always been a fan of the franchise. Also Alien 3 is worth a watch. It's not as good as 1 or 2 and is depressing and controversial. But it's gory, Ripley is a baddass and is the true end to the saga.

@@OfficialMediaKnights Unfortunately they sold it off to a third party of which did a insurance scam, getting the place closed down. They tried to revive it a couple of times around the country but it lost the Aliens licence and was not the same. If it was still there i would be going there every month. Unfortunately, i think it was one of those things that will never be the same. There are quite a few documentaries about it here on KZread should you want to check it out, but i have watched them... and it does no justice to the real experience. I went late 90's and still have the ticket they give you to this day.

I am really glad that you mentioned that its not about the shock effect, but about clever writing. Ripley was very well written, very well executed by Weaver, but the whole cast made a really good job. To this day, it is still creepy and exciting. For me, its one of the absolute best sequels. I think its a masterpiece of a movie.

To this day, nothing quite tops Aliens. It is one of the quintessential science fiction/action films of all time. Of course, it is one of the "Big Three" of that genre-defining trilogy, with the other two being Terminator and Predator. It is almost impossible to fully explain how influential this movie was both at the time and since. The cinematography, the use of practical effects, the pacing of the story, the development of the characters. Nothing was compromised, nothing was rushed, and nothing felt forced or artificial. We really FELT the fear and excitement in facing the xenomorphs. Modern films simple are unable to comprehend this kind of emotion. This was a watershed moment in cinema.

In the script, James Cameron describes the Alien Queen as ‘horror incarnate’, which is pretty damn fitting. Also that Ripley realizes that she must have passed underneath it at some point and if she had looked up she probably wouldn’t have the nerve to go on.

I always prefer the theatrical version versus extended version . The pacing of the film is just better . However extended versions are good after you’ve seen the movie just to get added perspective. It’s like dessert .

Much of the production crew that worked on this movie had also worked on the first movie in England. James Cameron had so many issues with them because the crew was loyal to the first director and they weren't used to the Hollywood schedule. They were constantly at odds with Cameron on how the movie should look. They wanted their tea time (beer at the pub) and didn't want to work the long hours typical of a Hollywood production. They finally came to an understanding and finished the movie. When they wrapped, Cameron had some choice words for the production crew that would come true soon enough....

Jokes aside, yeah that franchise went down hard. Alien 3 is a crap film (unceremoniously kills of Newt and Hicks off screen, never explains how and why Ripley got an Alien in her and much more). To its defense? The set design was on point (creepy, industrial, forbiding, apocolyptic atmosphere), and production trouble was so bad it's actually a testament to the Director's talent (same guy who did Seven and Fight Club). A testement in the fact they managed to get anything out at all. Still a crap film though...though not near as bad as Weadon's wank fest, nor Ridley Scott's prequels (I swear those 2 films are made by a AI script bot that was exposed to too many euphoric atheist reddit threads). If you want a GOOD Alien 3? Darkhorse published the unused William Gibson (father of the Cyberpunk genre) script as a comic, and they latter made that into an audio drama. In the Audio Drama Lance Henrickson and Michael Bien both represent their roles.

The situation with the woman and the chest burster is sadder than what you see. The fact that she is still alive when they get there means she lasted a long time like Newt, and except for bad luck, she almost could have survived. Don't know if she and Newt teamed up at all, though. Even sadder if they did.
