Algerian Compact BMPT Terminator

Algeria upgraded all their BMP-2 and BMP-1s to BMP-2M standard. Now, when they ran out of vehicles to upgrade, they turned to unusual methods, they turned to modifying T-62 tanks...

Not a bad idea. Another good idea would be putting the 2S38 57mm autocannon turret on obsolete tanks. This autocannon is useful for just about any land or air target in the battlespace.

It's not, though, that's the problem. There's nothing on the battlefield that you either can't use a smaller gun for, or that you don't need a much larger one to destroy. The 57-90 mm range bridges a non-existent gap.

I mean with the turret removed and replaced with the BMP-2M turret the weight of the vehicle would be about 30 tons and with the improved V-46-5M diesel engine with 780hp it would be producing 27 hp/ton which is very good and means it will have excellent acceleration and faster cross country speed on par if not exceeding BMP-2M and BMP-3.

THIS, this. This is how a functioning IFV should be made. IFVs will face enemy fire, so it needs to be at least rated to protect against 50mm cannon fire. BMPs, bradleys, lynx, redbacks all have paper thin paper mache used to protect against fucking 30mm fire. Come on, the enemy isn't going to be retarded and use ATGMs on ERA when clearly soviet era AA guns are enough to kill the fucking thing.

  • @nemisous83

@@gamingrex2930 well that and carrying infantry is only a secondary function of an IFV the primary role is to protect advancing infantry and to support armor. I've seen way worst ideas. Maybe it wont be a good anti-mbt vehicle but if you think about the most likely threats a modern AFV faces, this set-up is pretty solid. You will be facing infantry, drones and light vehicles far more often then an MBT and an autocannon might actually be superior. I also like the ERA on this vehicle, because if as i suspect this will be used mostly againist infantry/light armor then a lot of times the only option the enemy will have to defeat a tank are shaped charges. Overall i think there is something interesting here.

@@alsa3ka166 If it is actually supposed to support a t90 then i agree the problem is pretty much solved, because at that point i t becomes more of an "emergency backup". I still tend to see ATGMs as a secondary anti-tank system compared to main guns, because they do have a number of drawbacks: cost for piece, travel time, the fact that the gunner needs to keep visual contact trough the whole travel and the fact that they seem to be more easy to "kill" than an apfsds thanks to ERA, soft kills and active protection systems. While i agree that they can be the best overall solution when mounted on attack helicopters, when it come to ground forces the hardest thing to counter is a sabot.

Very Briefed And Summarized Ideas: In my opinion, the development is modest compared to the capabilities of the carrying platform. I think it would have been better to convert the t62 to an IfV by developing hull and the chassis, lengthening it and adding additional wheels for creating comfortable infantry compartment for 7or 8 soldiers, moving the engine to the front, and taking advantage of the chassis and heavy suspension system to manufacture infantry fighting vehicle with a heavy level of armor... my opinion regarding the Algeriain terminator project, the firepower is less than what it should be, at least in terms of the number of rapid firing guns installed. and I agree that the 9M133 Kornet-E ATGM is considered a good option that suits the climate of the region (of course after excluding the effect of sand storms on the laser guidance of the Kornet missiles) and offering overall better performance parameters regarding the Precision over the ranges and the penetration capabilities over the radio guidance 9M120 Ataka installed on the Russian terminator tank which still offer some different technical features from the laser riding 9m133 kornet. generally speaking whether Algeria needs to obtain a license to manufacture and develop this turret by adding extra rapid firing gun or designing a completely new turret based on the experiences obtained from locally producing this turret, I believe that rapid firing 30 mm are giving the platforms the volume of fire power needed to overwhelming the enemy, but this caliber has begun to lose its luster in terms of range and penetration capabilities, while the 37 mm k61 L67 can be good candidate with dual anti ground and anti aircrafts capabilities but with lower rate of firing compared with the 2a42 rapid firing gun and obsolete rounds, while the 57mm s60 could be an another candidate with 6000m range dual anti ground and anti aircrafts capabilities with wider ranges of new generation rounds but with much slower rates of firing...
