Alcohol Ink Art Tutorial - Primed Stretched Cotton Canvas - Mermaid

Фильм және анимация

I'm using alcohol inks on cotton stretched wooden canvas that is ALREADY bought pre primed, NO need to Prime with Gesso of you canvas is bought like this, cheaper canvases are generally not primed, if this is your case paint on 2 layers of gesso first.
For this video tutorial (which is very long so try not to fast forward if you can bear it and also apologies for the low volume, I've since changed my microphone!)
In the start of the video I am using pure isopropyl alcohol in a small bottle with the red lid, this is my blending solution.
For the glitter, I applied mine with a paintbrush and used a glitter glue or you can use an acrylic glue or Modge Podge type glue :)
Enjoy this video and happy arting ❤

Lovely piece I also like watching in real time...all those fast toward ones that are a few minutes long I don’t bother watching I don’t learn anything...I love video’s like yours and several other alcohol artists that I watch that do great tutorials .... I don’t see the point in watching something that you can’t try to learn from....thank you for another great video 💙💙🎨🖌

The longer videos are where we learn, and with alcohol inks every single piece is a different story so every tutorial helps. I used to think alcohol inks were simply a ‘throw it down and hope for the best!’ sort of craft...I’ve since learnt they can be manipulated very beautifully into artworks that I’m now trying to replicate. You are definitely a talented artist Edna and I love your colour choice here. This is the first video I’ve seen of yours, recommended from KZread, but it won’t be the last. Thanks for this great video. 🙏🏼💙⭐️🤍

I absolutely luv what you said write at the beginning of your video. 😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Bravo! I found your piece gorgeous!! 😍 I luv being able to see the entire process start to finish and appreciate you also sharing what your doing and your thoughts behind what and why you are choosing to do what you do. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏻🙂 If you use a heat gun, it’s best on ceramic tiles, or heavy Yupo paper, as there are two weights. They heavy Yupo paper can withstand more heat, it will buckle, but then lay back flat down once cooled. You of course do not want to use extreme heat on Yupo paper, as you staged your can warp, melt, and burn the synthetic paper. A lot of heat guns have an adjustment of heat temps, and some, like my own, have even a cool setting. It’s best to use cold air as it allows for your inks to not dry too quickly, the warmer the air the quicker the alcohol evaporates giving you a lot less working time. You get more working time if you use blending solution, or blending solution mixed with alcohol, but it still will dry much much quicker than using cool air. Making it much harder to be able to do specific AI (alcohol ink) techniques and blends. And blending solution is not cheap considering the small size of the bottle. May I suggest muting your sound, as you narrate? Or perhaps wait when you aren’t using your hair dryer? I don’t know if you are able to, but I would love to hear what you are saying and it is hard for me to hear. Take it with a grain of salt, I’m autistic, so I am more sensitive to sounds and maybe others don’t have this difficulty I am experiencing in hearing. 🙏🏻🤗

I often use my heat gun on the heavy weight Yupo paper without warping or burning, but for the type of effect you’re creating, I agree that a heat gun is not best. Personally, at least, I find a heat gun dries the ink too quickly to get this wispy nature. Your work is beautiful!

I have used a heat gun with Yupo paper. It didn't burn or anything like that but it did cause the ink to dry faster than I wanted while working with it.

Hello Edna, I have just found you and have been watching you all through this beautiful ink done on a canvas board. The paper I have been using has not been very successful and seeing you use a canvas has given me new hope. I shall try it first thing in the morning, well it’s 2:23 am, I don’t sleep much. It’s Christmas morning so I’ll try when it’s a little later as the air gun does make a bit of noise and would not like to upset my neighbours next door. I shall come back to see what else you can teach me. Merry Christmas and thank you 😀

Hi from South Africa. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art. I have a question, I'm really struggling to use my air gun like you do, could you tell me how you are holding it and the way you are moving it, I would be most grateful. Also, it's very hard to hear you speak and from what I can hear, you have a beautiful soft voice (: Keep on sharing, I can't wait to see the next piece of your art.

Soooooo glad you said, we didn't have to prime our canvas if, it's already primed! Another video, they recommended that we prime with Kiltz All-Purpose sealer and stain blocker! Otherwise if our canvas isn't primed Gesso is fine? cause I've got plenty of that!
