@@Joseph-xp3hh My fave album is Trilogy… you can guess who my fave vocalist is then - and I think he’s Yngwie’s as well because there’s an interview with this vocalist where he tells a tale of Yngwie, during the recording of ‘99’s alchemy turning to him and asking why after 8 years of lessons, why he still wasn’t sounding great… and the vocalist quite bluntly told Yngwie that he couldn’t automatically expect to be as great a vocalist as he was a guitarist and songwriter. I surmise that this is one of the reason the vocalist left during the “War to end all wars” tour - because I expect Yngwie never expected the vocalist to be so up-front and brutally honest with him, and Yngwie has always struck me as the type who would hold grudges… However, they must’ve mended fences, because Yngwie was content to let him play a set of tracks from Trilogy a few years back.

I totally agree with you. "Saint and Sinner" and "That Time of Year" are two examples of Vinnie at his best. "Saint and Sinner" sounds just like Jeff Beck and "That Time of Year" is as tasty and soulful as it gets. I suspect Vinnie saw Van Halen become a huge band and he thought playing as fast as possible would translate into album sales and it simply didn't work. If he would've done his best to come up with killer songs rather than trying ro show everyone how fast he could play, the Vinnie Vincent Invasion would've sold more albums.

The thing about Bonnie was that he was a really good songwriter, but not so much lyrics and solos. The very best song completely structurally was "That Time of Year". Very little if anything was overdone in that song, and it should have been the first single from ASG. bonnie was like MAB without the discipline. Talented, but he didn't have the patience to structure the solos carefully. That's why I love Ace and early KISS... If you can SING the solo, it works really well. Try that with most of the VBI material and you will roast your vocal cords and sprain your tongue.

Yngwie a Vinnie are completely different players, and I can imagine that he wanted to be the new Yngwie. But there's only one. Vinnie had chops from hell, and I love fast, technical guitar playing. But I think he overkilled it to the point where it wasn't even musical. People accuse Yngwie of that, but I think his playing is melodic, with chops beyond hell, killer vibrato, and I am a big fan of his. Too bad Vinnie couldn't sort out his demons. He had a helluva talent going.

Ken Edie Vinnie has no musicality, especially to his soloing. Sure he could pick Fast and knew a few tricks,, but it was a clusterfuck of notes and it didn't have any musical sense to it. If you listen to lick it up, VV’s solos are all pretty much the same. He has this one lick, that permeates every single song, a descending blue scale riff played as fast as possible, again and again, every track. He did the same thing in the Invasion. While most players, Malmsteen included, have signature runs, Vincent seemed to have played this riff over and over and over. So, in a way, he was a LOT like Malmsteen!!
