Alan Watts - What Do You See In Yourself?

Pt.1 (of two) in this powerful seminar by Alan Watts:
The key message is that we perceive ourselves as something separate from the environment when in actual we fact, we are and always will be, in harmony with it. View yourself as a pattern rather than having a fixed identity. We explore how our conscious attention is a very real limiting factor in terms of how we process information.

"Hey there, trape-tastic viewers! So, here I am, diving into the deep philosophical pool of Alan Watts' wisdom. It's like trying to balance on a tightrope while juggling existential questions. Just remember, if you fall off the trapeze of enlightenment, just laugh it off and embrace the cosmic circus of life. Let's keep soaring together, folks!"

Moments before I read your comment on this tightrope analogy, I read this same analogy in Carl jung’s archetypes , I forgot to mention

My self is the only one that actually knows me without misunderstanding. It's how I know people are liars when they say things like everyone I encountered is myself. Because they ALL misunderstand me still. And myself knows and trusts me not to judge so it doesn't lie or hide or mislead. If I have cancer it's honest cancer. And recently parts of myself are reciprocating and communicate in really cool ways, so I have some actual friends, even if it's a little confusing and crazy sounding to others, others never accepted me or could stand me for long.

If we only knew the truth about the universe, we would go crazy in an instant. that's why we created a safe image of the world to live life without going crazy. Its just my guess 😢

I cannot find myself when I look at myself. It used to be scary…………like falling off a cliff with nothing to hold on to and no where to fall to. Now it brings nothing but peace and pure beauty not to find anything.

It is both at once a liberation or relief and a jilt to the system, you find all that which constituted ideas about yourself, who you ought to be and behave, particularly from the standpoint of others, just dissolve away, like a weight you have been carrying for so long lifted. A process of clarity, not a radical change per se, just, 'this is makes intuitive sense'

"All phenomena of life is essentially musical." Well that sure makes sense when you see how crazy we get for music. Great lecture video. I really enjoyed it, thanks. 🖤🤍

A most appropriate note to end on, (excuse the pun). I also notice he blends many analogies about music and philosophy. In having desired to take up music at some point in his former life, he details about himself in one of his talks 'I am a wordsmith. Too bad, perhaps in another life...' Or along those lines! Thank you for your support 🙏
