I have the earlier AKAI AM2800 through vintage JBL4312A's monitors.... absolutely outstanding clean/crisp punch even by todays standards. in my view, anything AKAI is highly under-rated !

Akai made many cheap items too and that was the reason why this brand was not seen as a high end brand but the AA-1175, aa-1200, am-2800, am-2850 and am-2950 are the ones with exceptional sound quality comparable with the top of the line marantz and pioneer devices from the 70's

@@vintagestereo Agreed.... and I would suggest the definitive delineation of quality in AKAI products between the early/mid 1970's up to ~1980 should be highlighted versus their 80's in my view 'inferior' AKAI brethren namesakes.

@@dirtlumpAkai clarity from the 80's was still quite nice but maybe not as good as they did in the 70's. Although there speakers were not great I think.

That thing sounds pretty clean is it transistor drive or chip..? Its not bad..but your vu meter has a stickey needle easy to fix you have to take the meter out and put a small drop oil on the armature where the needle attaches but you have to watch not to touch the needle or git oil on the coil..

Old amplifier or Built With high quality Heavy parts And built to Last . That's the difference. If you purchased a new amplifier to get the same sound you would have to spend about $4000 two $6000 In the meantime the old amplifier only costs you about $900. Back into 80s
