    I dont usually. Because of how mould release agents work today there is often no need unless the sprue is visibly greasy. Like the engine sprue here. Wierd, because the rest of the kit was fine

    Thanks Kiwaruna . One of the things they ( Airfix) told us on the airfix day, is that the kits get made and packed ( mostly in India) and then are never opened until the customer sees the parts. They claimed that having someone go over the sprues would add too much money to the end product. Making them even more expensive. It is something that I felt needed bringing up when I had my 1on1 chat, and this is the reply I got. I fear I'd be flogging a dead horse. I get it, but it is annoying . 😒

    @@lpjmodels So theirs and Hornby's products are made in China and boxed in India? After shutting down their British factory and leaving just a tiny design office here it's a cheek they still claim to be a great British company.

    @@fus149hammer5 I think the toolings are China,( not 100% on tooling but its the most logical place ) moulding in India. But the new spitfire is a completely UK project.

  • @fus149hammer5

    @fus149hammer5

    Жыл бұрын

    @@lpjmodels There's a TV series in the UK called 'Hornby A Model World' Which follows Hornby and Airfix. In it they design and update model trains, cars and planes from their catalogue. They design items in this country then send the plans via the Internet to China for manufacture. Hornby/Airfix had a large factory in the UK but shut it down and outsourced the work to China making lots of people redundant. Their claim to be a "british icon" ting pretty hollow.

  • @lpjmodels

    @lpjmodels

    Жыл бұрын

    @@fus149hammer5 I dont know when this was filmed, but when I was invited to the hornby HQ a few months back they stated India as the site of the mouldings. Also confirmed on the wiki page here imgur.com/a/SgkVXD7 I agree it's a bit iffy but a lot of companies outsource tooling and moulding, purely because of the cost. I think there are very few European manufacturers that have in house moulding, I'm fairly sure eduard and special hobby over in CZ have in house tooling and moulding but I'm not 100%, das werk use the takom factory, airfix armour is academy tooled and so on. I think producing the kits here completely would be prohibitively expensive. One of the things that was said about the upcoming 24th spitfire made in the UK was that the dearest part of the process having them made here funnily was the packaging. And that's probably down to having to pay a minimum hourly wage of around £9 for someone to box something instead of 50p. Which in itself is a bit rubbish for the overseas workers too.

  • @fus149hammer5

    Model sprues with lots of flashing? That'll be an Airfix. I remember trying to build the bengal lancer once. The figure was OK but the horse? The body was so warped the two halves of the horses arse wouldn't join up so that went back!🤣 When you look at the quality of other brands it's a wonder they are still in business.
