Airfix 1/48 Junkers Ju87R-2/B-2 Stuka- TIMELAPSE BUILD
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
EDIT: I just learned the full name/band of the first song I used. I won't repeat either so as not to give them any advertising, but I will say that they seem to be a pretty distasteful person and I cannot recommend them. I won't apologize for using this song, though- it's a jammin' tune, and a remix of one of the better German marches. I've never actually done this and I hate that I have to, but I do not condone the views of the artist, and won't be using any of their material in the future.
Hey everyone! It's been a while since I posted an actual build!
It's not for lack of working- if you want to know whats going on with the channel, go check out my last video (Fall 2019 Update). What's important though is that this Ju87R-2/B-2 Stuka was sent directly to me to do a video on by Hornby US themselves. They've actually sent me a number of Airfix items- the F6F featured previously, a Gloster Meteor that will likely be the next non-cats project when I return home, and the Stuka here presented.
It's a good kit. Good shapes, really nice detail, only one small fit problem. Check out the video for more!

Viewer pointed this out- the swazi is NOT included in the kit; I don't know if it's a British thing or because they sell a lot to Europe and it's a huge cost save to only make one boxing of each version, but they are not there. I used a multi-scale sheet from Warbird Decals.
@timorvet1

Its right across the board these days with most kit manufactures, and as we know its banned through most of Europe. One way some get around it is to print the swastika in two halves on the decal sheet so it doesn't resemble it. Some exceptions ive come across are the Storch from Tamiya, on initial release the box came with a sleeve, on the sleeve was the box art with....you guessed it no swastika, but, take the sleeve off and the box art underneath has it.....sneaky.

@@timorvet1 Haven't there been instances where either the manufacturer or someone in country has actually gone in and cut swazi parts OUT of sheets from inside the box?

I started collecting kits in the seventies when Roy Cross's artwork made Airfix box art the best in the business and decal sheets were historically accurate. Then someone complained about the 'militant' box art in children's (?) retail and Airfix neutered the box art along with most other manufacturers. Not long thereafter the tail insignia started to disappear. All this did was make my unmade collectable kits from the sixties and seventies even more valuable to serious collectors.

The flag was a great addition to your video. Don't listen to the ass hats that get butt hurt by it. It's history plane and simple. My father was in 1 st marine div. in WWII and was always respectful of the Japanese and spoke of them as brave soldiers. Regardless of the atrocities he had seen. Even after seeing many of his friends killed in action, he never said a thing about the German and Japanese flags that flew in our rooms as kids. He always encouraged us to read and remember history. Remember history is written by the victors.
Thankyou for building such a iconic aircraft, I have the Revell 1:350 scale Bismark, which has 650 parts ranging from minute parts to extremely large. I'm finishing a Revell 1/21 scale Concorde model. You have a good for camouflage art. Keep up the good work, be safe and God bless.

The Stuka is an amazing aircraft, had a system to pull out of a dive automatically at a pre set height if the pilot blacked out, it also had explosive undercarriage so pilot could remove them if they were damaged and make a belly landing.
Regarding your problem with clear part on wing. Simply use Micro Sol Krystal Clear. This stuff does exactly what it says on the bottle.Simply apply with a cocktail stick to build up across the area.Job Done.
Great review and build... just like to add I am mid-build - my wing lens fits perfectly! PS love the tunes (even tho i don't understand a word!) Thanks for the vid buddy...
Very nice build. I have both this kit and the earlier B-1 version. One small point, in the video you said you used Tamiya XF-22 for the interior color (Which should be RLM 02 Grau-Grun or Grey-green) Be aware that Tamiya XF22 "German Grey" is not a good match, being too dark and too greenish. (It is actually close to RLM62 Green-Grey, a pre WW2 era Luftwaffe colour!) The best mix is 2 parts XF2 (Flat White" to 1 part Xf22) - this lightens it considerably and also brings out a stronger greyish hue, very close to the RLM colour (Which, BTW served as a primer coat!) The instrument panel should be RLM 66 Schwartzgrau or Black grey, a very dark grey, with black instruments and bezels. Later types of Stuka (the D & G) post 1940, had the whole cockpit in this RLM 66 colour. (A long time WW2 modeller, I am.)

Yes, the clay wash is water soluble. It has no other thinner in it- the only thing I would be concerned about using it on is MAYBE a water-based acrylic topcoat, like if you are sealing with Vallejo or something like that.

@TheWaggishAmerican
3 жыл бұрын
Tamiya Liquid Cement for the most part, I use a tube poly cement for high-stress areas like landing gear. You can make models look nice without an airbrush- one way to is to use spray cans, which cost between 5-10 dollars each for modellers paints and will get you the right color. Alternatively, it is possible to paint nicely with a brush. Go watch "Quick Kits" to see how. I can't speak to the accuracy of Humbrol paints, because I don't really use them. I've heard decent things, just know that their light olive tends to run a lot less tan than mine and is usually more of a light green. If you've never modelled before and are looking to start, you probably want to start with a smaller/simpler kit. Airfix's 1/72nd scale Stuka would be a good candidate, and I think you can get it in a starter set.
Very talented and good job 👍🏼

Oh are you talking about the cutting? That cut line is dependent on whether you want to build it sitting or flying. If flying, use the full gear. If sitting it's under weight, and that part of the strut was in fact the oleo.

As a casual watcher of these videos, I wonder why you never use the crew figures? It would be my preference but is there a reason why you don't?
@TheWaggishAmerican
4 жыл бұрын
There are a few reason's here. In this specific kit, it doesn't come with any. Airfix has pretty much stopped including them in new 48th scale releases. In more general terms, I like cockpit detail more than I like figures. I also hadn't been getting good at figure painting until recently, and didn't want to drag down a build with a subpar figure. The biggest reason, though, is that including a seated figure just doesn't make sense for the way I display my builds. My builds sit on a shelf- basically it's assumed that they are sitting in a hangar or something, where there would be no reason for the pilot to sit in the aircraft all on his loansome. It'd be different if I did more dioramas. The only time I could really see myself using normal seated pilot figures is if I was building a model in flight- either to suspend from my cieling or to do an in flight diorama like my Stigler concept. In that case, I think it would be more jarring to not have figures that to use them. The final and less important reason is that a lot of the figures are very low quality. It's not a big problem with modern 72nd scale airfix, but a lot of kits that included them are either very old and soft, or have massive parting lnes.
