i just heard at 7pm that it was quite likely total engine failure, which means the 777 became a 300 ton glider and the plane would have reached near to stall speed, so if this is the case, the pilot has,saved not only every one on board but maybe 100's of residents too.

I was working in the airport that day and as staff were waiting to board the buses from staff carpark and the plane barely skimmed the fence - a second earlier and it would have come down IN the staff carpark - 2 seconds earlier and it would have been in Hatton cross station and/or the BP petrol station. Brilliant last minute work by the first officer.

Thank God for the safety of all passengers and crew. Had an absolute nightmare trying to get hold of my Dad aho is pilot of a later scheduled flight. Well done to all the crew on a wonderfully safe landing. Confirms my faith with BA and proper airlines. Always fly with the big boys. And 777, what a safe aircraft. Fantastic.

Someone obviously switched their phone on during landing, taking out the plane and all hospital equipment within a 15 mile radius.

Reminds me so much about the Britannia Gerona crash a few years ago. Nobody was injured on wither crashes.

Can you risk flying Trent 800 after the problems with the fuel/oil heat exchanger? Two major mishaps 2008. Delta and BA, in which the latter crashed at Heathrow.

maybe one engine went tech but they closed down the wrong one (ie the good one) like at Kegworth ... :-( seems to fit the bill .. how else cd it loose all pwer ?

I couldn't agree more, BA just looking after their own, 5000 miles and both engines fail at 400'? yeah right!

I bet it was no fuel. Pilots normally bring down the landing gear way out soon after they lower flaps. If the engines really failed right after the gear went down, as a passenger alleged, then the pilot waited until the last minute, not five miles out, to lower the landing gear to save a few drops of fuel.

We all can only speculate, even the experts do not currently know what caused this. We will have to await for the full investigation by the airline, Boeing and accident investigators from both UK and USA. Most important is that no lives where lost and the pilots did a great job to try and save what could have considerably worse.

Last Year,I went to China on holiday, we flew with British Airways, On the way back i flew in Flight BA038! I cant belive that i flew in that exact plane that Crashed!

I'm staying put with my opinion of it being Wind Shear, I was flying that morning as Cabin Crew into LGW... but there were some serious gusts going on in that area, the F/O on my flight was landing and about 300ft hit a bit of shear and we sunk a few feet. He had to quickly bring the thrust up close to takeoff thrust at this time to get back on the glideslope. Thought we were attempting a Go around at the time... Just my 2p

The 777 came in just after the M4. That must of been really scary. Well done BA and the pilot! Thank God no-one died. Is it still there?

Whats with this praise on the pilots? Of Course they are good pilots and did a good job but come on lets wait for the investigation. Way too much pilot praising without anyone knowing what the hell happened.

My parents and my sister were supposed to fly soetime soon on BA from London. I hope they weren't the three injuries.

probably an Engine EEC failure which caused either 1 or both engines to shut off due to computer software at the worst possible time. happened to Jetstar A330 about 2 months ago with 1 engine at FL370

There's no point accusing people before we have all the facts. The main thing is that there were no faitalities and everyone suvived the crash.

Thank god all went well for everybody.but how come there were only 136 on board a plane that can carry up to 290 passengers. seems a very poor yield for BA - I'd assume it would be a popular route.

Sabotage? The engines stopped as the landing gear lowered. Maybe a techie saboteur hacked the system software. If it was bingo fuel wouldn't one engine stop before the other; slight difference in left right fuel tanks.

I was in the airport, and my flight was delayed 4 hours... luckly it was an international flight! Europeen flights were Cancelled!!!

No the aircraft (G-YMMM) was damaged beyond repair and was written off. It was the first (and only) complete loss of a Boeing 777 in its 16 year history.
