It's amazing to think that only two people, just like you and me, control such a beast in such a small room. They hold so many lives in their hands it's insane!
You have to have absolute respect for these guys after seeing this. Just watching the captain on the left control that thing is amazing! Kudos!!
When you hear the run-up you can almost feel the G pressures on your jaw and chest, just watching this! Flawless sterile cockpit adherence too.

Greatest flights I ever took..
I miss the Kai Tak airport. It's always fun to fly in and out of it. Of course, definitely challenging for the pilots to do so.
Lovely~~the engine roaring is the true background music
It's part of the procedure. V2 signifies that the plane has reached the minimum safe climbing speed. The copilot calls it out becuase the pilot has his hands full visually checking the area around the aircraft, making sure the airplane is in proper attitude for safe operation, etc. The copilot keeps his/her eyes on the instruments and calls out speeds, works the radios and communicates with the tower.
Taking off is the best feeling in the world when the jet is running on the runway dammnn its sooooo fasttt i just love it crazzzy feelings. airplanes r fast as hell even on the ground
I first flew when I was 14 months old, but from my earliest memory that I can comprehensively recall - you feel 'helpless', in a way. Becuase you're no longer on firm ground, you may immediately feel some sense of panic/stress, but after a few moments that feeling subsides and you start to really enjoy the sights, the feelings and the noise of the engines. Though don't be afraid if the engines seem to power down - it's simply that the thurst required for takeoff isn't needed anymore :) Have fun!
congratulation for this video!!This one is the best one i ever see, about take off airplanes.
wow , this vid is the best feeling onboard cockpit view i ever watch ! Great Feelings ... !! Nice job !
It's awesome how you see the end of the runway and then water right away after that as they pull up!
wow! thankyou I love your cockpit vids
I got to fly a 737 in a US Air pilot training simulator once. Take-off was surprisingly easy...landing is near impossible. Those simulators are AWESOME!
The average rotation speed for most jetliners is around 150 knots which is somewhere between 180-200 mph. Of course, depending upon how heavy the plane is (how many passengers, how much baggage, the amount of fuel, etc.) and which direction the wind is blowing and how hard it's blowing can adjust that figure up or down accordingly. I also think surface temperature affects lift as well (something to do with the density of the air or air pressure or something like that).
Amazing video, makes me hope to pilot a 747 even more! Thanks so much for sharing!
brilliant! thought id neva see it from a cockpit viwe till a was actually a pilot!
i LOVE THIS VIDEO, HAVNT SEEN IT IN AGES. i LOVE THE WAY THE PILOT & CAPTAIN BRACE THEMSELVES BEFORE FULL THRUST, JUST LOOK...
I've never seen in real life anyway the cockpit of a big plane. Thanks for posting. Though I have been in a small pontoon plane 3 person's.
The footage is amazing!!!!
good video!! they make it look so easy and as if anyone could do it!!
excellent video, nice view!
great video, PIC is very busy on the yoke, cant imagine the wind he has to fight
hahaha thats awesome. anyway this video was nice. 2nd video i've seen from the same guy just showing basic landing/take off stuff in a vary basic way making it feel very natural. great posts my man!
que gran video,gracias por compartirlo...
this is a beautiful view...........dream job
oh men, it's an great video, congratulation
Nice...Thanks for posting
Amazing video
Really impress with the technologies of Aviation...
awesome...it must be a great feeling cutting loose on those engines and unleashing that power.
Great video... 747 take-off from Kai Tak airport... One of the most interesting airports ever... And, I agree with a previous post from "crayztrav" ... "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't goin'!!!" ... 5/5
@CraZy291 its a mechanism that prevents the landing gear lever to be raised while the aircraft is on the ground
the captain is doing some heavy stearing there , nice movie mate
nice vid love the 747.
thanks for posting! that looks amazing =] hope i can get into a 747 cockpit someday..ive been in a 737 already =]
wow thats really a nice video....i liked it.....
awesome vid
Nice video!
pretty crazy the amount of lift the wings give such a heavy thing. awesome stuff.
Very Nice...........
I had a similar experience once on a 747. It was packed full of people and it seemed to take forever to reach take off speed. Still excellent clip!
@britts1234 i think the 2nd gear up was called by the FO to acknowledge the gears up. Either way he was suppose to call out pos climb.
yes it does. it sounds almost the same in the main cabin though.
I hear 2 things before gear up First the co-pilot says 'V-R' which means they are at 'rotate' speed. This is where the gear under the nose leaves the ground. Next he says 'V-2' which means that the aircraft is at a safe speed and can still climb in event of an engine failure.
Happy Airport Day!
the person filming this is sitting in what is called a jumpseat its a very small seat in the flight deck of the plane. I've been in the flight decks on several occasions and it always impresses me
Actually I once was told it's perfectly fine to use a radio or a cell phone in mid-air - you wouldn't get reception anyway. The thing is, the take off and landing part are very critical stages in which no one wants to see any equipment failing. So to minimize the risks in case these appliances would interfere with the flight controls airlines forbid anyone to use their cell phone or radio or whatever.
Thanks for the info! I thought I read somewhere that moist air effected engine performance. I might've just paired the two together since heat and humidity always goes hand in hand. At least, where I live anyway...
So I am sitting here and suddenly i get this fantasy that I am piloting this 747 and I tell my mother, look I became a pilot mom. well i am 39 and I am not a pilot, but in all honesty, somehow I also feel like a lot of the magic of flying have disappeared with the massive numbers of planes and them becoming more computerized, but this combo of cool old school pilots, Kai Tak and a heavy 747 just got my imagination going.....
it depends on the aircraft, the weight of the aircraft during take off and the length of the runway, the pilot must determine the amount of take off thrust, like on the 777-200LR one engine produce around 110,000LBS of thrust now you dont need that much on take off with less payload
that was the craziest video ive seen in a long time
@airboyd....how do you record such amazing vids!!!!
thank you for sharing this, what airline out of curiosity? I love watching these, especially now, as I have aged a fear has sunk in with it, love the 747.
yes it is a 747-400. you can hear the mode call 'thrust ref, vnav speed'. this occurs at 400 feet .
perfect footage. 5 stars.
If it helps it's the long, grey concrete bit in front of the aeroplane that you can see through the windshield.
@iEatFFFBS Just gadgets that send or receive signals like phones. Cameras can be used.
Very cool.
gnarly! airplanes are neat!
Yeah i guess your right thanks for replien mate
Wow, it did eat up a lot of runway! I wonder what the weather was like...I think if it's hot and humid, that also effects the amount of runway needed as well, right?
u know what is coming.. but it's still a wonderfull thing to see how this machine comes of the ground..
Nice!
Is that Chek Lap Kok under construction that we see out the window right at the end?
Yes, its just like in the bus, if youre sitting in the back, not in part of the two axis its really uncomfortable.
@97HKG Thanks!
is that the guy from the itvv cathay video. I heard he is a 737-800 capt with virgin now
yes we do... it isnt my career but i love flying them!
I like this vantage point; it's like sitting in the back seat of your dad's sedan
yea i know i like watching videos like this.
@britts1234 Sorry, but during take off if they use LNAV, the computer steers the plane and the pilot just has to climb the airplane up to the correct altitude?
It's either one of the pilot's cameras set up or it's another pilot onboard in the jump seat.
I like when i'm hearing this power of the engines uhhh great
Awesome! Love your videos. How much does it cost to get a pilot license? Here, in Romania, pilot school for ultra light aeroplanes starts at about 6.000 euros or more.
What is that that the copilot presses at 0:51 that makes the engines sound like its working faster? What does its do?
Is it me or was the runway really used to its maximum range before take off? Awesome video 5 stars
@rewa267rewa this is probably one of the replacement crew who releaves the two guys flying the plane later on.
About 36000 Euros for an ATPL. As far as I know, a typerating for a 737 or A320 is included, depending on the flightschool or airline your going to work for.
no fair, capt is getting all the fun.
Just one thing I would like to say about the above comment. You'll find that the 80kt call is actually because takeoff data is actually predicated on thrust being set by 80kts.... therefore the call of 80kts is actually to make sure the takeoff thrust has been set. If not, you'd need to reject the takeoff. Theoretically In all cases, any failure before V1 can still be aborted with enough runway left to stop. Again, thats only theoretical though :)
i love my job! being a pilot is the most fun thing ever!
@jonathanaus2010 xwind correction ailerons into wind with opposite rudder
No mucking around lining up: He opens the throttles as soon as the turn is completed. And at the end of the runway, you can see why.
used up a bunch of runway u were right it was heavy i bet
Is that captain Don Grange? I recognize that head...
@rewa267rewa Yo, the dude behind the pilot is also a pilot. He is called "deadhead" or carried free of charge when not working. Also sometimes on a very long flight, airlines carry two sets of pilots. Someone can correct me. Look closely, the man behind the pilot has three stripes.
Even before 9/11, the only way you could be in the cockpit of an airliner on takeoff or landing is if you were a member of the flight crew so the person taking this video had to be a flight crew member or a dead-heading pilot (pilot catching a flight with the airline he works for to get to the destination he needs to be at to work).
Put it this way, IF during 'take off' you develop a problem you can't immediately land as your at the wrong end of the runway! e.g. The concorde crash was at take off & there was nothing the pilot could do. Well done to the crew in the clip.
well, its always smoother once you get in the air! the runway is distressed from the millions of airplanes landing on it... it like driving on a bumpy road, but your car is 650,000 pounds and you are traveling at 220 MPH!
This is so cool, it makes me wana just go and travel the globe.. Sorry buy who's that third guy in the pit doin? He seem to belong in the staff..
no no no they do i kno an avionics former mechinic and he told me that teh instruments are very sensitive and no radios or cel phones can be used because those are reallly critical and that those cause the instruments to get messed up
is amazing how these babies fly everytime i see them,,i have the feeling that i am in the future... love them,,,,but i scare when i am inside.
I miss those days..
Depends on weight and flaps.
What's that clicking sound at 2:00 roughly? Right after the V2 callout. Thanks!
No it doesnt. Vr means "rotation speed". Its the speed at which the pilot lifts on the yoke to raise the nosewheel off the ground.
sweeet! bet it gets pretty old after the 3-4th takeoff though
#3 AND POWERFUL i would love to get my hands on so much power
good for him, in the right place at the right time,
V1=commited to take off,VR=rotate,ie lift the nose,V2 =take off velocity , all engines working.
