I find Baylon to be the most interesting character so far. I actually find the scenes where the villains interact with each other to be the most lively parts of the show. I did think the scene with Hera and Chopper was fun (although she probably could have shot the ship down once they made it into space) and I also liked the scene with Huyang and Sabine.

I don't know how this ancient thing knows where Thrawn is since he's only been gone for the better part of 10 years, but my main theory is that it has something to do with the Purrgil. The Nightsisters were once tracking the Purrgil, they're aware that they can go beyond interstellar travel and actually become intergalactic, and word got out to Morgan Elsbeth that he was taken away by them, and the search has been narrowed from any known hotspots for Purrgil in the main Galaxy to a specific location in this other Galaxy. Certainly a bigger thing than I was initially expected, that being the Unknown Regions, but I'm just going to sit back and let Dave Filoni tell his story than try to overthink it.

This isn’t the first time Star Wars has gone outside of the galaxy: There’s the ending of Empire that got retconned to hell, the Yuuzhan Vong are Extragalactic in Legends and Kamino is Extragalactic although its sister galaxy is within the orbit of the larger galaxy. But this show seems to be introducing a entirely new galaxy that isn’t a sister to the main galaxy. I, like many, was expecting Thrawn to come from the unknown regions, probably back with the Chiss ascendancy. So this new galaxy took me by complete surprise and really opens up the mystery of Thrawns whereabouts

I've always been fond of Disney's take on New Republic era because it's so distrusting of each other. It's the power vacuum that just gets bigger and bigger when it becomes inevitable for the taking. Instead of being cautiously prepared, people are arrogant of what came before and the ignorant are left to pick up the pieces and figure out what to do. The acting still feels stilted in some ways, but I do love the dialogue between Huyang and Sabine. I'm glad it's not making the villains unrelatable or easy. It's like a game of cat and mouse and the new Republic and good characters don't realize they are the mouse from a looming cat waiting to strike. I'm still floored by the soundtrack and the visuals. I just feel truly spoiled as a Star Wars fan because we are getting live action content that either nods to what came before and in general it's just nice to see when all you're Star Wars reading connects to what was established.

Two takeaways from this episode: 1. I'm really getting tired of the 8-episode limited series. They just feel like movies stretched out just a bit too much, which leads to mid-seasons that really drag. 2. That line about how people are still loyal to the Empire just because of greed really bugs me. I want to see something Star Wars dive into the people that support the Empire out of a place of ideology. Not to glorify the bad guys or anything, but think about the storytelling possibilities you could get out of a character that supports the Empire because, while they definitely did horrible things, still sees it as an overall net positive for the galaxy.

I really think the villains are the best part of the show so far. Baylan is a very interesting character, a Jedi from the Clone Wars who is a mercenary for the Empire and wanting Thrawn’s return with all of the different motivations is fantastic. He is a different kind of villain with layers that aren’t stereotypical for antagonists. The shipyard part was great, bringing in good dialogue and action. But some of the characters feel static like you pointed out. Still not the biggest fan of Star Wars Rebels, so I have some of that bias.

I completely agree. The acting (particularly from the actress portraying Hera) is noticeably lacking. The idea of the story itself and it’s direction are great. And especially the relationship between Baylon and Shin totally works. On the whole, I do like Ahsoka so far (in spite of some legitimate acting issues). I believe Baylon and Shin are going to turn out to be Dark Jedi (not Sith). To explain the differences SORT OF think of it in terms of Superhero/Supervillain archetypes. Hero = Jedi (Luke/Obi-Wan) Anti-hero = Grey Jedi (Ahsoka/Qui-Gon Jin) Anti-villain = Dark Jedi (Baylon/Shin/Mara Jade as the Emperor’s Hand) Villain = Sith/Inquisitors (Vader/Palpatine/Maul) That’s my VERY oversimplified generic understanding/explanation of the “differences” between the primary Force wielding archetypes.

It’s like with real life stab wounds, some are instantly fatal and some aren’t depending on where damage is sustained. Also Obi-wan had to fight Maul for several minutes so Qui-gon didn’t get quick medical attention like Sabine did. How quickly treatment is administered ie surgery also has huge effect on survival rates for stabbings.

Not spoilers, just speculation. I think they’re playing with the Yuuzan Vong. Maybe the Grysk? So in my theory, Thrawn and Ezra got dragged out to that neighbouring galaxy and they’re coming back, but with a warning. The “other species from the next galaxy” are coming. Thrawn knows who they are, because the Chiss are already familiar with them. Now what I’d love to see, is a curveball. I’d like to see that Palpatine saw this coming, way before episode 1 in the world between worlds. He created the Empire and a method for creating a standing army quickly. He needed to rapidly unify the galaxy because the threat that’s coming is massive. It makes Palpy the “sort of” good guy. It flips Star Wars on it’s head, it shifts the paradigm in a way that the franchise sorely needs. Your whole perspective of every event is changed by knowing what Palpatine saw and why he did what he did; he was actually trying to save everybody, by force, by dark means, because there isn’t time. I’d genuinely love to see that, but that’s just me. It also explains “somehow, Palpatine returned”, because he did, through the world between worlds. Someone scooped him out like Ezra did to Ahsoka, before he hit the bottom of the tower…

Were it not for the unfortunately necessary exposition, I think these first two episodes would have worked much better cut down into a single installment. I agree that the whole thing has seemed rather cold and stiff thus far, with scenes and story beats feeling overly drawn out and a general feeling of emptiness permeating the whole thing. One could argue that might be what Filoni was going for, but if so, the execution seems a little too stuck in the shallow end of reverence for its predecessors.

The dialogue wasn’t so bad (to me). The acting (primarily Hera) is definitely lacking. The fight scenes aren’t awful, but they are only okay, but absolutely not great. The chemistry between the good gals, yeah, that’s very much lacking (again, especially the actress portraying Hera). The Bad Guys/Gals, that’s been pretty much spot on; be it, acting, dialogue, chemistry and so on. Sadly, my biggest criticism is that we’re not getting any more of Baylon after this (for obvious reasons 😢). Ray really is bringing it as Baylon. I’m assuming he and Shin are ultimately going to turn out to be not Sith, but Dark Jedi. My vastly oversimplified understanding of the difference between Jedi, Grey Jedi, Dark Jedi, and Sith is generically somewhat akin to the differences between Hero, Antihero, Antivillian, and Villain. EDITED: And yes, I get why the comparison between Hero/Antihero/Antivillain/Villain and Jedi/Grey Jedi/Dark Jedi/Sith is at best an imperfect analogy. I’m just trying to keep it simple.

@@ArlenKundert funny you mention Hera’s acting. I thought she was a lot more like her animated character than any of the other characters were. Besides Ryder, of course. Clancy always delivers. Sabine and Ahsoka felt like different characters and the acting definitely felt stiff for both of them IMO.

@@eliwatchedthat and for me, live action Hera was as far from animated Hera as I could imagine. I didn’t at all feel the “Mama Bear” tenacity that she had in Rebels. Sabine for me felt much closer (but still off) to Tia’s performance from the cartoon of a smart, slightly snarky, fearless engineer, albeit feeling a little forced at times. Rosario Dawson also felt like a mostly accurate continuation of the evolution of the character of Ahsoka. At least that’s the world according to Arlen…

@@ArlenKundert I see where you're coming from. I think Disney is trying to show us that a decent chunk of time has passed since Rebels and that these characters have developed into who they are now. However, the lack of background info as to why these characters have developed the way they did and why they are the way they are now leaves a lot of unanswered questions. It's only been two episodes, so I'm hoping that the rest of the show can answer some of those questions and bring a bit more life to these beloved characters.

@@eliwatchedthat I am totally for character development, but I dislike when significant stuff happens off screen. Like what's the point of watching 2 episodes of Sabine and Ahsoka settling their beef and being butthurt towards each other when we didn't even see what happened between them. Also Ahsoka as a (ex)Jedi could be a little nicer when trying to reconnect with Sabine again. I am not happy about how Disney Jedi now are the ones who like give up on others and become misserable.

I defiantly have an issue with the acting. Aside from Ray Stevenson and David Tennant, most of the acting is just very flat, especially for Hera, Sabine and yes, even Ahsoka. All the personality and energy Ashley Eckstein, Venessa Marshal and Tiya Sircar brought to those characters is just absent for me. I also don't get what's made Ahsoka such a stick in mud, all that energy, that spunk, is just gone. Also she's acting surprised that Sabine is rebellious and doesn't listen, when 1, that's how she's always been, and 2, Ahsoka wasn't any different in her youth. Maybe that'll be something that gets brought up later. But when you think about it, with the exception of Obi Wan and Yoda, the entire line of Master and Apprentice Ahsoka is a part of is full of those who were rebellious and didn't listen, i.e. Dooku, Qui Gon, Anakin, her and now Sabine.

I have much of the same issues with Ahsoka that Greedo has. The acting and the dialogue do feel very flat and dull, also utterly emotionless, while visually I would call the show okay, but uninspired. Action scenes are dynamic, but lack proper tension. In animation, you could get away with any Force-user single-handedly cutting through a bunch of droids or soldiers, but those scenes do not translate well into live-action, because it's unrealistically easy, with no sense of a struggle. Same thing with lightsaber fights, in animation no one bats an eye, but here I would like them to have meaning. Maybe my biggest issue though is feeling that this show was made JUST for fans. Mando's S1 (which I'm actually not a big fan of) wasn't, and Andor definitely wasn't, I could actually watch that show with family who have only ever seen the movies and they still enjoyed and understood the story they told... but Filoni's stuff is always heavily aimed at diehard fans. I've watched tons of stuff and read about 120-130 novels from the old EU, but I don't want these series solely catering to the most devoted fans, I want them to be accessible. Not just good Star Wars (whatever that means), but good stories in their own right that anyone can enjoy, even if they are not in too deep. And with Ahsoka, I feel myself beaten in the head with Rebels and other lore. Have you seen Rebels? You should have seen Rebels! Do you know the lore? You should know the lore! Well if you don't, here is 30 minutes of exposition to tell you why these characters are important and why you should like them or care about them. Doesn't do the trick? Too bad for you then. I think this is a pity, because the protagonist (Ahsoka) and the antagonist (Thrawn) are both among the most intriguing characters that the EU or non-cinematic Star Wars ever came up with and both have the potential to be iconic in live-action. From that perspective, I really would have preferred if Filoni introduced them in a more standalone way, instead of making his show a sequel to Rebels. You know, to make these great characters more accessible. That's usually my problem when lifelong fans like Filoni make shows for fans, we're lost in the details and the lore. Story and characters to me is more important than the lore. The silver lining is that Andor didn't hook my immediately either, so there may still be a chance of this turning out to be good, but I definitely want more spark and substance from the actors and the story.

I'm the opposite, i find the dialogue in Ahsoka more interesting than Andor, i really got bored of Andor. I preferred the Boba Fett show over Andor. Different Opinions make the world go around!! be boring if we all agreed on everything. I don't think we should be too harsh on Dave Filoni i think we should give him a some slack so we can get him producing 'consistency' (star wars needs consistency imo) & Dave's previous shows Rebels and Clone Wars were a slow burn and you had to hang with those shows through their early days to get to the real meat and potatoes, and they were worth the wait.
