Aggressive Christian | Jerikia - Kileen, TX | Atheist Experience 22.17

The Atheist Experience 22.17 April 29, 2018 with Russell Glasser and Phil Ferguson.
Call the show on Sundays 4:00-6:00pm CDT: 1-512-686-0279
We welcome your comments on the open blog thread for this show.
► freethoughtblogs.com/axp/
KZread comments are at present disabled in our channel, to the displeasure of some. However, each video has a prominent link to the associated open thread that appears on our blog. In the past we've tried opening up the channel to comments, but we found that a very high number of episodes wound up being flooded with a combination of spam, long winded apologists, and various obscene or misogynistic comments directed at various hosts by people with an axe to grind. This seems to be the nature of KZread comment sections, in our experience.
We do moderate the blog, the same way that we moderate chat during the show, as well as comments on our Facebook group. For comment sections that are "officially" associated with our show (and, to a much lesser extent, channels that may give the unintended appearance of being official), we prefer not to play host to straight up ad hominem attacks and bigotry. As a general policy we do not block commenters simply on the basis of disagreement with our point of view. However, we do prefer discussion environments that don't actively chase off more reasonable contributors.

WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Xenomorpheus the whole point of the stories of the Bible is for people that didn’t know they would have a story to explain to them what they didn’t know. In science we strive to find the answer. In ancient times people made up stories to explain why we are and what we are without any actual facts. Look at what the Christians did to Scientists throughout the ages. If we in the western and European world weren’t educated we would be just like the Muslim world with our thinking that is 3000 years behind today.

Any human who tries to explain the Origin of the Universe, Life & Mankind apart from God’s Revelation in the Bible, is at best just Guessing, or at worst like with the Theory of Evolution, simply making bullsh@t up! Please take time to read the Holy Bible for yourself Sam Bacon & you will discover the Truth on every topic.

Lmao... When individuals provide such strong evidence that they are incapable of logic and reasoning, they at the very least prove their lack of credibility on their beliefs. Unfortunately, someone who lacks logic is also not capable of identifying why they are wrong or what could possibly be true. Its Santa. The grief that kids feel when they are told, "santa a lie. There is no magic in the world" Its scaled up to adults. You are removing a very crucial block of how they understand the world out from under them. And unlike a child, that only needs to rethink 5-7 years of their life... We are talking decades of life that now have to be rethought. Everyone who has died in their life...dies for REAL now. Every moment where they felt alone...they were alone. Every interview, surgery, airplane flight they prayed on and everything worked out okay...was chance and probability. That is a traumatizing thought for a human to experience. So some avoid it for their sanity. Heck I just try not to think about it too hard. Scary stuff.

I love the defense of the slavery stuff when they go, “well god knew they were going to do slavery anyway so he just gave them rules to do it ethically.” Like god knew he was powerless to stop them from owning slaves. If he asked them to stop they’d just do it anyway. But on the other hand coveting, the act of WANTING something that someone else has, makes it into the top 10. It’s literal thought crime and it happens reflexively. You see Yusuf has healthy cattle and you think, “man, I wish I owned those healthy cattle” and then god sentences you to burn eternally. But if you see another human being and think, “man, I wish I owned that person” and then you go and purchase them and beat them if they don’t work for you god is like, “well you didn’t beat him all the way to death so that’s ok.”

Atheists don't have a specific world view. Atheism doesn't have any beliefs or claims, therefore no specific worldview comes from atheism

At least, not any more of a world view other than, "I don't believe in any gods," hence my joke about seeing them sneaking into church.

If the caller is using 'ancient texts' as the basis for determining truth, shouldn't be we following the Sumerian version of creation and other explanations? MUCH older than any scripture in the Bible.

I always thought that the commandments (people always say 10, but I think there are 80 or so if you count the ones that tell you how to treat your slaves) were just a secondhand version of Hammurabi's code of law.

Technically, we should be returning to oral tradition if age is going to be our measure of truth. Guess we gotta start holding competitions for "oldest orally taught creation story"
