AFL players who cannot stay off drugs ‘should not play’

Hobart City Councillor Louise Elliot says AFL players who can’t stay off drugs “shouldn’t play the sport."
It comes as an MP has told parliament of a secret illicit drug test supposedly authorised by the league’s top medical practitioner.
“I find the whole thing quite stupid and arrogant,” Ms Elliot told Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt.
“Of course, you’re going to get caught. Of course, you can’t have tests before the tests.
“These are the consequences of playing an elite level sport which you are very well rewarded for.
“Follow the rules, if you can’t back off the drugs - then don’t play the sport.”

It’s simple, players either want to play footy or they want to take drugs, their choice.

Same goes for politicians. Random drug and alcohol testing before each sessions.

1.39 UTTER NONSENSE. The rules are simple. Stop pretending these are man babies, they are grown adults. I am happy for a one strike policy. Two strikes and they do not play for a year. These people get a lot of money at the top tier, its a huge industry, lets just make it so they do not take drugs. So many careers require a person to be clean from illegal drugs, why can we not just be crystal clear, illicit drugs and you are gone.

Players are Humans and we all make mistakes. Must be pretty stressful environment to be in. Injuries and players who are close but can't get selected may choose drugs to get selected. Others may become addicted to Opioids etc, bit hard to judge people if you never been in that situation.

If it doesn't give you an advantage, or it's hard drugs like opiods, stimulants, or synthetics, then its their personal choice, psychedelics should be legalised.
