This is so refreshing. No disrespect to the established guys like Mox, Kenny, and Danielson, but it's so refreshing to see new generational talent like Ricky and MJF be front and center by themselves and not against established guys. Edit: It would appear that the mere mention of Kenny Omega will make any reply section go downhill. This is actually pretty funny.

The "established guys" are nowhere near the level of MJF to be fair, especially Omega and to an extent Mox. Danielson is the best of those 3, but MJF is something else, the casual fans love him and that's rare now

These two are so good on the mic, this needs to be a longer program

The best heel and face matchup right now. This is classic wrestling feud awesomeness with two who can go both on the mic and in the ring (and that maxi pad line, nice one. The people love having something to chant and it raises that heel/face dynamic when they do) Great to see Starks get a spotlight, MJF is of course fantastic, and glad to see Page in the last battle spot and losing in a way that didn’’t make him look weak or cost him his earned heel points.

Really happy to see young talent being able to get the spotlight and actually deliver.

I saw the potential Ricky Starks had back when he was in the NWA. He wasn't quite there, yet, but it was clear that he had the talent and he improved consistently during his run in the NWA. This is the guy that Billy Corgan thought he would become. It's who most NWA fans thought he would become.

Can we talk about how beautiful Ricky's spear threw to MJF? It looks devastating

Ricky just dunked all over MJF, he is so charismatic and it’s so natural too. The crowd loves him too, he’ll be AEW Champ at some point!

Holy crap that was brilliant! As great a heel as MJF is, Starks answered back like a top babyface. Its exactly this kind of rivalry and storytelling that really makes wrestling worth watching.

There’s a difference between being a great wrestler and being a great performer, Starks and MJF are just that, great performers, the facial expressions, the delivery, the believability, “it” factor, personality, confidence, charisma. These are all things that cannot be taught, you either have them or you don’t.

These guys have the “IT” factor, for sure. Yes, they are young and still have a lot to learn. But these guys have a ‘Star’ aura and belong at the top of the card on TV every week. The more they get in the ring with veterans and hone their craft, the better they will get. The potential is limitless.

@@tplomonte I think your wrong. Where MJF’s mic skills are good. They are also derivative. Where as Ricky is not “quite” as smooth as MJF. He is definitely way more original with the smack he talks. And he is a much better wrestler then MJF. In time he might even be a shooter. MJF will never be.

One of my favorite things about this segment is how Ricky is calm cool and collected while he lets MJF 'have the floor'. He's not overreacting, not giving that stupid sarcastic face everyone seems to give when someone is talking about them in wrestling, he's just acting as someone who is actually the coolest in the room would act. Honestly, he's probably not 'acting' at all 😄

I don't watch AEW so I didn't know anything about Ricky Starks but this guy managed to make me a fan from a single promo. Man, that was incredible

MJF is a true professional who puts over his opponents. He reminds me of Kurt Angle. Angle got over so many opponents in his first few years by remaining unselfish and actually stooging for his babyface opponents. MJF does the same thing. That’s what will keep him on top for years to come.

Modern day Ric Flair and Rock, in their primes, going back-and-forth on the mic. Appreciate it, wrestling fans. One day you’ll look back on this video and talk about how epic it was

This is one of the greatest segments in Dynamite history.

This was MAGIC! One of the best segments in Dynamite history -- and that's no exageration. Years from now when these guys are somehow even bigger stars, people will look back at this segment as a career-defining moment for Ricky in particular. Starks and MJF has potential to be a feud for years to come!

A guy they let overshadow MJF of all people on the mic? A guy who recently beat Hobbs who will inevitably become a star too? Yeah, he's clearly not going to be booked like a jobber no matter what you may think. Even before all this he was FTW Champion and was mega over, if you can't see that he's a star in the making or that Tony has noticed it I have no idea what you're watching. The fact they're even trusting him as MJF's first title defence shows how highly they think of him, fucking hell this promo alone should give you a clue. If he doesn't end up being AEW Champion in the future I'll be shocked.

This was fantastic stuff from both performers. MJF and Ricky Starks going toe to toe verbally was a long time coming. Very few can compete with MJF on the mic. Ricky Starks is one of those few. He actually beat him on the mic this week on merit, since MJF resorted to a low blow after being flabbergasted but Ricky still stood tall. Props to MJF putting Ricky over as much as possible. This was great stuff. Ricky in the long-term should be the guy AEW go with as the top babyface!

This is the first moment of AEW where genuine AEW come up on there own. This is a good fight.

Ricky just has IT. I felt at times throughout this promo that little bits didn't quite add up, didn't quite make sense, but his intensity and charisma, cadence etc made it so I didn't care! Once he brushes up a little bit, he will be incredible on the mic.

Not that big of an AEW fan but this was perfect! Ricky stepped up to MJFs level and shined like the Star he is!

Gotta say this: Ricky Starks is just steamrolled MJF's promo game. Both of them are absolute diamonds. Such an awesome baby-face promo with emotion, passion and confidence. The exact kind of wrestling promos that absolute need to be present still. I Love it.

Though MJF played his role perfectly. How he reacted to Starks' comments throughout, looking like it was getting to him, the little low blow and Starks' comeback. Chef's kiss on making Starks look like a bonafide star and building heat for the match. Won-der-ful.

It takes two to tango. MJF gave Ricky a fast ball down the middle cos he knew Ricky would knock it out if the park, especially with the limited build for this. It really shows just how much he's matured over the past two years. And how great Ricky has been THIS WHOLE TIME.

So no one's going to talk about Starks literally spearing MJF right out of his shoe? Seriously, watch the move back in slow motion and you'll see what I'm talking about. And yes, that promo was fantastic.

I know they won't give it to him but Ricky deserves to be champion. The fans love him organically.

Ricky, Ethan, and mjf have been bouncing of each other for years. In that way, MJF really is the most established pillar in AEW, especially when compared to jack Darby and sammy who haven't had as many epic moments outside of TV wrestling in my opinion. Honestly yuta and Garcia are above them too in terms of match quality.

MJF sets up his feuds the same every single time though. Call the city shit, ditch the fans at meet and greets they paid to go to, talk about how good you are (rarely winning matches without friends or foreign objects, kinda like a male Britt Baker). Rinse, repeat. Ricky EARNED that ovation, and to be blunt.. he carried this segment. If I hadn't heard the same promo from MJF when he faced Punk and Moxley and Cody and Darby, with only the slightest of variations, I'd maybe have praise for him. I just think he's projecting, and not his weaknesses or insecurities. No, he plugs in the stars that came before him, he leans on the fourth wall, and he projects what he remembers, barely adapting it for the people he's actually in the ring with. He could have said the same thing about Darby and Sting as Ricky and the Rock. Or Punk and Randy Savage, but tossing in some line about looking like a drug addict. His observations are skin deep. Which might be a commentary about what he thinks wrestling fans can understand and maybe that's why I'm not a fan of really anything he does. Cause you say he has a great mind for wrestling, but this is the same audience that still thinks Nascar is entertaining. It's not, and this was ALL Ricky. But hey, if the guy who wants to make millions in Hollywood acts like a cheap facsimile of the Miz giving the Rock a blowjob, he's doing great.
