It's already been said a dozen times below, but I'm saying it again, what a great story, at some point we all figure out in life that the things that bring the most joy and meaning to our lives is family(blood & non-blood) and life experiences. Your son now has an incredible experience that he will fondly reflect on for the rest of his life, it's a priceless gift. This is the type of activity that takes a boy and starts building a healthy foundation for him to become a man. God bless you and your family.

Always been a wanna be pilot. Got some hang glider training 10 years back. This story allows me to live vicariously through this young man's journey. Living in Canada, there is opportunity to do ultralight and due to lack of funds, my experience is limited. Fly in fishing is probably the greatest activity in Manitoba that I would like to do, but water landing is tricky. So I may leave that to an experienced pilot.

The young man seems to be a natural in the cockpit with all the flying exposure he has had over the years. As long as he flies the aircraft not the other way around, he'll be fine. I'm glad to see these young ones that are interested in aviation now a days, with the cost being out of reach for the majority of people. I learned to fly in the early 60s, when it was fairly cheap, and was lucky enough to get to fly a variety of airplanes. I believe the high cost, drove the ultralight market, and it looks like it's doing well. I know now, I should have built an ultralight, when the prices went sky high and drove most of the average guys out of the skies. At least I got to fly for about twenty years, and had a Boeing Stearman 19 of those years, and with my own 1948 Beech Bonanza, and a few years with a Republic Sea Bee! Sure miss the flying!

tinlizzie37, thank you for your comment. You had some wonderful aircraft to fly for your twenty years of flying. My brother also learned to fly in the early 60's and a few years ago built his own Just Aircraft Highlander light Sport Aircraft. He loves his plane and flies it all over the country. Perhaps you can continue your flying in a Light Sport aircraft. Best Regards, Wayne Whitley

  • @harpandharley

@@cindyd4333 Sadly I can sum it up in one word .. liability. When a small airplane crashes, the airplane manufacturer gets sued, the engine manufacturer gets sued, the mechanic gets sued and the list goes on. The cost of liability insurance can literally double the cost of an airplane. The introduction of LSA and Ultralight aircraft have revitalized the industry.

Thank you for doing this video. Thank you William and Henry for showing that with proper training and preparation, just what is possible in an ultralight. Recently I've developed a major attraction to some of the bush ultralights. With today's technology the capabilities of these aircraft have greatly increased. My goal is over the next two years is to gain flight experience and skills to be able to do hops similar and show just what these inexpensive aircraft can do - and post those experiences on my KZread channel. Now that'll be the way to retire!

All the credit goes to the courageous and supportive parents. 👍😜❤️ Note : As a CFI, could you please advise me of a place where I could get training prior to purchasing one ? Congratulations Henry your story reminded me of when I started flying. Short story I started in the summer of 1986 I think I was 11 but my mom would take me to the airport to watch airplanes. Then we stumbled over the (CAP) CIVIL AIR PATROL cadets program. We saw them marching in uniform so my mom stopped and asked for information. When I turned 12, I was able to join CAP. I fly a 103 and I just spent $18k on a Blackhawk LowBoy3 PPG and in the process of starting a business called SimpleAir. So Henry don't stop flying and with your dad's help excel to excellence, and I hope one day I get a Henry to fly for my business. With GOD SPEED.

great info. i am planning a fall trip on rt 66. starting from california and ending in st. louis, where i will detour back to florida. the planning is the hardest part, but my experimental aerolite has the wingbug and foreflight enhanced programs, radio, elt, trim package, and nav lights. 7 gal tank powered by hirth 2702. putting in an ads-b before i leave. i love this video and a great job by this young man. lets hope this 68yr old can do the same.

Nathaniel, thank you for your comment, I am happy you enjoyed this video. Henry and his dad, William teamed up to accomplish a truly memorable trip and an inspiration to us all. Your plan to follow Rt 66 from CA to St. Louis sounds great. You certainly have done your home work selecting the safety, communications and navigation accessories to go along with a fine ultralight aircraft. I wish you the best on your adventure. I believe that at 68yr young, you will do great. My brother flew his Just Aircraft Highlander from Florida to Alaska and back a few years ago and he was just 73yr young! Regards, Wayne Whitley

@@WhitleyVideos Thank You Wayne. That was a wonderful video about Henry and William. I enjoyed every minute of the video. One of my late ham radio friends was a 1/4 owner of a Cherokee 140B. Each owner paid $38.00 per hour that pilot operated the plane to cover fuel and maintenance. and they split hanger cost. I would pay the $38 when he took me flying which enabled him to fly as much as he wanted. It was a blast. We'd fly to Sikeston, Mo. To eat at Lamberts, popular among pilots. We flew to Reelsfoot Lake for catfish or Cincinnati to watch the Reds. Often we flew places just to fly. We'd leave in the early afternoon and often return well after dark. It was the best of times. One day he called and said they found lung cancer and he was gone 2 weeks later. That was the last time I got to fly in a small plane. I retired last year and my youngest son is getting married in 3 weeks. I hope that since the nest will finally be empty, my wife will agree to me getting licensed. The mission of raising 6 kids is finally over and was a complete success.

Daniel, you have memories that will last a lifetime. My brothers and I are ham radio operators and have lifelong friends that are (were) hams. Congratulations on completing your successful mission of raising 6 kids! Best of luck with your new mission of becoming a pilot. Thank you again for watching my videos and supporting my hobby of movie making. Best Regards, Wayne Whitley
