Looked into ultralights about 15yrs ago and Aerolite was one I had considered. After awhile, I figured I would be just too tall for something like that and didn't get into flying. Nice to see Aerolite is still around, even with a different company. With Dennis Carley saying he can fit in it at 6'2", maybe my 6'5" size wouldn't be as bad as I thought. Something to consider. 15 yrs ago, Sport Pilot was still being talked about, and now I'm looking into that as a way to get into flying. I'm just a little heavier so a two-seat plane might be the way to go if I could ever afford a plane. Thanks for going over this aircraft. It's very informative.

I am very impressed with this little plane and this is the plane that I have been leaning toward purchasing for my first one. I have been studying the different types of 103 aircraft and so far for the workmanship, cost and durability this one seems to be the right one. I will just need to learn it's flight characteristics but it appears to be pretty straight forward.

I got a kick out of the antagonist act by the "potential buyer" character! I thought it was comically entertaining. And countering, the manufacturer delivered his "lines" in the perfect manner, such that "the pessimist" was thwarted at every turn! Again, a smile appeared on my face over and over as I watched and listened. Most importantly, COUNTLESS attributes of the Aerolite 103 aircraft were thoroughly and clearly detailed for the viewer. A fine video in all respects! Two Thumbs Up!!!

Enjoyed the "adversarial approach" to your really nice 103, Dennis. About "100 years" ago, I was living in Rockledge, Fl. I was in need of a new Voltage Rectifier/regulator for my Rotax 503. I looked for one on the web, and received an e mail from you. You said: "Give me your address, I have one of those on the shelf that I'll give you." Was an old "866-080," You sent it and I installed it on my old EROS Mini-max. Flew N76395T for 13 years - tried to put 1,000 hrs on it, but had to retire it at around 750 or so, hours. My wood and fabric (recovered 3 times) finally gave it up - never was in a hangar - always tied down on the ramp. Was tied down at Valkaria airfield - Merritt Island - and the old Rockledge airport (they might be closed now.) One time we talked, via e mail, and you offered me a ride in your Storch - through my laziness, never got to Deland. One of these days, I'll be looking hard at your 103. Lost my interest a long time ago in GA, - liked the Experimental Amateur Class, but now my sights are on a nice 103, like yours. Thanks Dennis. mike Donavon, Hopewell Va.

Would also like to know typical storage situations (hangar, tie down, covers, etc and typical costs Local to you in FL) - I would then be able to talk to my local airport about various options. In all honesty I've been looking at PPG's but I'm still not convinced of their safety. Fixed wing to me is more stable and has less aeronautical unknowns.

I love the blue and white. Those are the colors I want come the day I can afford a 103. A provision to carry a small duffel bag would be nice. Maybe bungeed on top of the fuel tank. One deadly problem is the huge vertical fin/rudder. That, the top-mounted motor, and the hanging landing gear paint a large radar profile. If a surface-to-air missile is launched, where are the electronic countermeasures and chaff dispensers?

Use your radio, and get a transponder. Know the rules and I can't imagine why you wouldn't be allowed to fly over urban areas or out of GA airports. Top speed is right up there close to a cub. There will of course be those airports you would not want to fly in or out of. Class B for example. Messing around with a 777 in a 250 lb airplane does not sound fun at all. Wake turbulence would ruin your new years plans. Many GA airports, in fact most, are uncontrolled anyway.

Watch too many aviation videos. I've seen multiple interviews with Aerolite owner. He's knowledgeable, patient, willing to answer ALL kinds of questions, explains things well and thoroughly. From what i can tell, his company's product lands right in the sweet spot between safety, DIY and flyability. I'm cheap as they come and I dunno why anyone would buy a used Aerolite 103 ... or any other ultralight.

    1. Why not put a cowl around the motor and have less drag ? 2. A flight radius from the take-off point of 100 miles seems very (very) little ??
