@@kane3j336 I feel that. Cloud did it first in our reality's timeline since ff7 the game came out first. However, prequels usually overwrite/retcon these things once they are made. So CC is considered the most recent origin story of the ff7 world and not ff7 itself. Just because ff7 came out first, doesn't mean that's where everything started. It's like telling a story from the climax onward.

@@godshenron9306 Actually he doesn't have that either. He has some traits but otherwise, he is the literal opposite of Zack's cheerful and friendly nature. Anyone who played Crisis Core can tell you that. It's not that complicated. Aerith was attracted to Cloud because of some similarities he had with Zack, Cloud with time, also began to fall for her but then Sephy spilled her guts out in front of him so it never goes anywhere.

I know the fandom is split on who Cloud loves. Younger me had a bias on the ship and felt he loved one not the other...but older me feels like it was never meant to be that straight forward. I believe that he sincerely loves both women. Tifa was his childhood crush and was what moved him in the past. Aerith was pure light in his dark world. I think part of his feelings for her was mixed with Zack, but I think somehow, Cloud himself caught feelings for her too. After the tragic events and then getting lost in confusion again, Tifa helped him find himself again. I think he did fall for Aerith but that doesn't mean he cannot have sincere feelings for Tifa. Heck, I think Tifa herself loved Aerith dearly as a friend. Survivor's guilt makes it difficult for them to find happiness. As for Aerith, I think she loved Zack and was attracted to Cloud based on his similarities to Zack. However, I think she was also trying to find the "real" Cloud and began falling for him too..but that doens't mean she doesn't love Zack. Love is complicated xD

Whom does Cloud love? Cloud.. loves Tifa. The broken mind version of Cloud that had convinced himself that Zack's life was his life is the only part of him that would have fallen for Aerith. (and even then, the scene with Tifa in the flowers when he embraces her is likely the canon one). Because Aerith never knew the 'real' Cloud, only Tifa does. Which is why "Cloud" can't love Aerith, because whom he thought he was at that time was a lie. It's why he nearly snapped when she said Zack's name which his mind muted. That's also why it was Tifa that pulled his mind back together. The guilt Cloud feels isn't because he was in love with Aerith, it was because he felt he'd failed her and let her die. The Aerith in THIS story seems to be from the same place Sephiroth is from as there's many clues that she knows her fate and is trying to change it. As Red XIII looks at her when he mentions the whispers coming after people trying to change their destiny. Then in the end you see because of them messing with that, Aerith feels Zack's presence and it's very clear she's still very much in love with him. And if Zack survives.. Aerith is likely going to be with him.

Tbh, I’ve always felt he loved them both. I’ve never bought that it’s just all Zack when it comes to his feelings for Aerith. Maybe to a point it was part of the fabrication, but I think a part of the true Cloud had feelings too. But unfortunately he just never had a chance to definitively pick one and find out which was part of the tragedy. :(

Thank you! That’s an amazing explanation of the complicated characters in FF7. I’m absolutely stoked to see Zack alive again in this remake; albeit in a different timeline, and I can’t stop thinking about the possible ways in which they can reunite and still not tread in fan-fic territory. Here’s to hoping they’ll figure it out!

Not really, she tells him that since her last love died and she blames herself for it, she does care deeply for Cloud, and is afraid, fate will repeat itself and he will die because of it, so she tells him not to fall in love with her, but he did, and so did she with him, it becomes very clear at the Gold Saucer later on.

@EduardoSalgado but Aerith never knew the "real Cloud" while she was living, as he was still immersed in his false persona. She wanted to "meet" him, but couldn't. It had to be Tifa to put Cloud's psyche back together, as she and Cloud share memories of both the past and present. IMO, in the time preceding Aerith's death in the original, Cloud wasn't really in the mental state to love anyone, regardless of who was in love with him. Really, it's not until after the events of AC that it seems like he's ready to give up the self-punishment and self-hatred complex.

@@magicalgirl4 There's been no statement that Maiden Who Travels the Planet is canon, and I don't really consider it so given how flippantly they treat Aerith and Zack's relationship in it compared to in Crisis Core (which is definitely SE-endorsed canon). In Maiden Who Travels the Planet, the author basically makes Zack out to be a skirt chaser, whereas in Crisis Core, it is clear that his feelings for Aerith are 100% sincere and that he basically died trying to get back to her in the end. No offense to the author of Maiden, but I found the writing (at least the English translation of it) to be pretty poor all around-- it did not do any of the characters or their relationships justice, and I say that as a fan of Aerith's (at least, as a fan of her depiction as a beautiful, independent steward of the planet).

I feel like Aerith knows what's going to happen to her, which is why she tells Cloud not to fall in love with her because she doesn't want him to get hurt when she's gone 😭

To be fair, Cloud could've easily been like Zack. Cloud's childhood wasn't exactly great, he had no friends, Cloud's only friend was Tifa and some shit happened during their childhood. Fast forward, he failed his SOLDIER dream, became a lone wolf due to shame. His idol Sephiroth razed his village, killed his mother, nearly killed his best friend and his crush. Dealt with Sephiroth just to be experimented afterwards with Jenova cells, then finds out his best friend ends up dying protecting him. That's my Ted talk. Thank you xD

I like Cloud and Tifa being together the best, but I'm not even gonna cap. Cloti shippers are so toxic, they dont respect both sides of the coin. Aerith undoubtedly reciprocated feelings for Cloud. Yes, she loved Zack a lot, but he passed away. Sure, Zack is still very important to her and she definitely cherishes him in her thoughts. This doesnt mean she can't love Cloud. Even in the original game In the golden saucer scene, she states that she knows their both different people now, and how she might've fallen for him as Cloud. No I don't like Aerith more than Tifa, quite the opposite actually. This doesn't mean the romance between Cloud and Aerith wasn't garbage. The creator of ff7 implemented the love triangle element for a reason, and I believe this subplot was quite intriguing, and I can definitely see both romances being fruitful.

The ending that showed Zack carrying Cloud was either a memory or an alternate timeline, as Clouds mind is still warped with Zacks memories in the remake. For the people who didn't get the "Don't fall in love with me" line It was alluded that Aerith knew the original plot of FF7 or somewhat vaguely knew. Its possible she knew of her fate in the original timeline. She told him not to fall in love with her because she knew it'll only break Cloud's heart

Also someone pointed out aerith holds clouds hand a lot.. and cloud doesn’t push her away. Also saying ‘ don’t i have a say’ is a tell tale sign of someone that is in love.

Aerith said to Cloud to not fall in love with her because she is from the future like Sephiroth in the Remake and she knows that Cloud ιs not himself. She knows that Clouds feelings are not real since he doesn't act out of his own will and acts like Zack. You can clearly see at the ending of the Remake when Aerith senses Zack that she still misses him. That's why she says I miss the steel sky(or in the Japanese version I hate the sky). This is a reference to Crisis Core and the fact that she was afraid of the sky and preferred living in the Slums under the plate(Steel Sky) when she was with Zack. It might also be because Aerith somehow knows that Cloud is meant for Tifa since she was the one to awaken his true self to begin with. You can't have played Crisis Core and think that Aerith could have eyes for anyone else than Zack if Zack's alive. And since Zack is 100% alive by the Remakes end (in a parallel timeline) they will find a way for them to meet again. And once Zack explains everything to Aerith she'll be all over him again mark my words. And if she's from the future she will probably know everything that happened beforehand. At least that's what makes the most sense to me.

She and Sephiroth are not from the future imo. Both she and Seph have always had abilities to gain knowledge from the lifestream. Only in this “timeline” since the watchmen exists, both of them gained knowledge of future timeline.

Aerith probably low key denied Cloud because she knows that she still loves Zack. Even at the scene where she mentions him you can clearly see that she's sad when she talks about him.

man the relationships cloud has with the 3 main women who flirts with him is so interesting in the remake, jesse teases him and is like, not subtle at all about her crush on him, and he's baffled by it. tifa and him flirt like an old married couple, yet still dance around the obvious chemistry, and, zacks memories/traits aside, cloud himself becomes more and more attracted to aerith as it goes on, it's just so so good

What makes the scene at 7:15 so good is that after playing the game, you have the context of why she said that. She is fully aware of what is/might happen to her in the future, since it's implied that she (and Sep it seems) are aware of the future.

Never played the games, how would she and Sep know about the future? And why there are people saying Zack is alive(in an alternativa timeline, maybe idk)? Did he or did he not get Zack's personality? If not why does she say at the end that eve if he thinks his love is real, is not? I am so sorry for asking all of this, they just kept coming after the first one 😭 I can't for the life of me grasp this points by reading the comments or the wikia. Am grateful to anyone willing to answer.

@@CorHellekin Nojima the writer said she tells him that bc of her fate in the og. Even her reply after him saying he is coming for her proves that she isnot pushing him away like shippers think. Secondly, he only has the soldier persona not Zack’s persona. In the og he says “ i heard stories about Zack but i created my own memories”. Even official books state he just created his own persona. Yet when he regains his full one, he doesn’t change that much.

I think the tifa/aerith cloud shipping divide is a good thing. It shows a more developed, complicated story with relationships that aren't necessarily predictable or straightforward. It's more interesting.

zacks height: 6'3 clouds height 5'8

Aerith is the intended love interest for Cloud. The director has all but said this. Zack’s falling through the church was intentionally copied from “Cloud and Aerith’s “meet-cute” to create ironic familiarity. Zack is overly forward while Aerith is mostly uninterested. In the original and remake, Aerith is the flirtatious one and offers a date to Cloud. She discuses the future and says she wants to meet ‘the real you’. She asks Cait Sith about her comparability with Cloud, she receives the most characterization. FF7 original makes it very clear, Zack and Aerith were not very serious. The director has stated this as well. Aerith will always love Cloud. This is why her death in the original was so impactful. Real Talk, who has ever had a girl say “you can’t fall in love with me...” and not realized that what they really mean is “fall in love with me!” Come on this is not difficult.

Cloud does not have Zack's personality or memories. Cloud only took Zack's identity as a Soldier, nothing else. Aerith tells Cloud not to love her because she knows she is going to die and Clouds love for her puts him in depression, which we see in advent children. Aerith sees through Clouds Asshole personality, she sees the real Cloud which is why she tells him he will always be Cloud before she dies. Cloud and Aeriths bond was real, it had nothing to do with Zack.

It's sad and tragic on what happened to both Zack and Aerith.. Well at least they get to be together again

Best way to *enter* the *FF 7 universe* in the following order and will make sense in the process as the story goes on : *Before Crisis* *Crisis core* *FF 7* *Dirge Of Cerberus* ( Now if you want to count the movies if *FF 7* as well it would go like this ) *Before Crisis* *Crisis core* *Last Order* *FF 7* *Advent Children* *Dirge Of Cerberus* If you play them in that correct order , not only just the story will make incredible *sense* but you will also gain *the* most best *experience* you ever had with a *video game* . Plus it will become your favourite *FF* game of *all time* . Personally i started with 7 back in *1997* like everyone else and then proceed with *Dirge Of Cerberus* etc. . Because it was *too complicated and it fucked up my head with all this forward and back i did what i had to do and i played the entire FF 7 universe in that correct order* . *Took me a while to get them all but now i have the best collection of FF game i could ever want* !!! 👌👌👌💪💪💪🔥🔥🔥

The Tifa scene is sweet and feels right (to me) in some ways, but tbh the Aerith scene here gave me goosebumps because I did not expect it to go this way. She just sucker punches you with it in a way that’s so direct it took me by surprise.

There's a reason you can date either one or none if them in the original, because it's up to the player to choose if they like one or the other or only like them as a friend - not Cloud. So when someone states he loved Aerith or Tifa more, it means they are the ones that do. Cloud loves whomever you choose for him.

Yeah if you’ve seen it, you see how utterly broken Cloud is. So much so he moves into the church and sleeps next to the flowers where he met Aerith. Cloud is a broken man who has lost he woman he loves.

It's not that hard to comprehend that aerith did love Zack and she still loves him. But that doesn't mean she was destined to be alone. She saw a little bit of Zack in cloud due to them being soldiers but they are polar opposite. Cloud will never be Zack and isn't trying to copy Zack he's stereotyping a first class soldier by being stoic and recluse. And he doesn't have memories of Zack he's memories are just warped fusing his memories as bystander when Zack was taking care of him to thinking he was that person. This is why he doesn't remember the whole thing or is fuzzy. The guy is has amnesia from trauma.

This! This comment so much. I've ran into so many encounters of people thinking that Cloud is not Cloud and that he is a living incarnation of Zack. That is not the case at all! Cloud is himself, with all the trauma and awkwardness of being a teen still. He was experimented on for years and lost a great portion of his personal growth years. But what makes him an amazing character in the game is his character development through gameplay. As we, the players, grind and gained experience to level up our characters; so too was Cloud growing personally in experience.

The reason she said those words was cuz she was going to die soon and in the Life stream after you die your body is reincarnated two different fragments of the planet so you don't stay there very long so even after she dies she going to be there alone anyways she's the only one of the maintain itself in the LifeStream cuz she's one of the ancients so I heard

@@gamerforlife3946 With all due respect mate, I don't want to get involved with the silly ship wars, It's petty and childish, it wasn't a thing back 97, and as I said I couldn't care who Cloud ends up with if they decide to change it in remake, I'm fine with it. How I see it is three individual being drawn to Cloud in some shape and form, I'm not talking about the support characters here. Barret, Yuffie, Red, Vincent, Cid, I am simply referring to Zack, Aerith and Tifa. Along with Cloud, these four character alone were chosen by Gaia to defeat a evil that threaten the World, unfortunately Aerith and Zack were killed, Cloud and Tifa ended up looking after Marlene and Danzel at Edge.They failed that task in og. Yeah I get it Tifa and Cloud grew up in the same town they go there seperate ways only to meet up again in Midgar, and it was fate that both Zack and Cloud met Aerith, or just a copied and paste narrative. Zack and Cloud became best friends in what a few days? And in remake they make it blatantly obvious, that Aerith and Tifa are now, more like best friends. If that isn't fate that brought these characters together I don't know what is. Edit: I can easily see in remake changing the character arcs slighty. Tifa the keeper of the black materia. Zack right white wing. Cloud left black wing. Aerith keeper of the white materia. Dualism, Ying and Yang. You may think this is a, really stupid concept, but we are talking about Nomura here, something I can see Nomura adding in a future installment of remake. To truly defeat Sephiroth you would need two vessel to seperate his core and is mind, he can't be defeated to return to the lifestream. This is where Zack and Cloud have a much more major part in FF7r. 👍

@Fico Secco the more I think about it, I think either her or Tifa are gonna die in this whole reboot. The creators of this remade series basically just told us that some people we know that died in the original may end up surviving now (such as Zack Fair), but it also conversely means the ones that were meant to survive in the original could end up dying now too. Also, it should be pointed out that just because Zack might have survived past his original death doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t still die at a later time (his cells were degrading by the end of Crisis Core). So the same could be similar to what will happen to Aerith now. She might survive longer than she was originally meant to or she might just die in the same way anyways (but I do wonder how Zack might handle that if he was alive and saw it occur).

@@giangiannigiannini4836 I'm pretty she will die by the end of the game, but maybe in a different way. That scene was so empowering in the original FF7 that it'll be ridiculous if they decided to drop Aerith's death from the story.

I respect all opinions but personally i love the idea of zack and aerith together again

For me there is no reason on why not, also i would bring back all members of avalance. with the knowledge of how bad the other timeline went, we could finally do better. i dont know why i feel this way, but thats how i do ^^

People are saying that cloud only like aerith because he thinks he is zack. But just based off playing crisis core it seemed only aerith liked zack and he really cared about her but only as a really good friend but im sure there may have been a possibility that their relationship could have developed into something more serious, eg his last memory was of her, if tseng didn't keep the 89 letters and of course if he didn't die. In the final fantasy 7 dismantled book she even says 'although called my first love that doesn't mean we were partically intimate'. in final fantasy 7 dismantle aerith also says ' at first when i met cloud, i believed he was similar to zack. Little actions, the way he spoke....his kindness. But cloud is cloud. I now undoubtledly love cloud much more than zack, but cloud is clueless'. So overall my point is that i think that cloud really did have feelings for aerith

*Zack and Aerith* the best couple in the entire *FF franchise* . Believe it or not *Zack* was the only one who understood and stand by *Aerith* more then anyone else !

@@shu830 i think you are the one blinded by your love for crisis core and Zack. Think about it: from the moment he met her to her death, Cloud has always been closed to Aerith. Even death did not do them a part. Just watch Advent children. They are bounded beyond death. He risked his life to save her from Shinra, from sephirot too (in vain). and he spent more time with her than Zack did (due to his job). Their date in the gold saucer shows that Aerith (if the player decide to charm her) fall in love for cloud and look for the "real Cloud". I don't deny she used to love Zack and missed him, but her heart belongs to Cloud. Advent Children shows that.

Crossbow no she knew she’s going to die later in the story. She doesn’t want cloud to get attached which he failed and got attached which is why cloud is so “emo” in Advent Children.

@@sakuracardcaptor4709 Player can choose, but Tifa is canon. The official interview says Tifa and Cloud share a sexual night at the high winds after connecting their feelings for each other. This particular moment would occur depending on Tifa's affection level. When cloud is expressing his feelings for her, she replies with "Sometimes action is better than words" - this phrase actually sparked some controversy amongst the Japanese fans saying that Tifa might not be a virgin as a virgin would not say something like this. Anyway, it follows up with clouds nodding his head then BLACKS OUT.

To be honest, I think that Zack and Aerith genuinely love each other. Zack helped her out of the slums, see the skies, made her flower wagons, and more. Aerith looked for Zack during his captive in Shinra manor, she even wrote so many letters for him and asked Tseng to give him personally. When Zack read the letter, he was desperate to go back to Midgar just to see her and when Zack died, I think Aerith got that bad omen. They're connected somehow. Cloud also love Aerith, but I think that she just doesn't return the same feelings to him. He reminded her of Zack, so maybe that's why she's fond of him because Cloud reminds her of the one she actually loved.

My theory is that she is from the original timeline because when they meet she gives cloud the flower because it was a special customer and she said it was for lovers reuniting. And she knows that cloud is acting like zack but will change. Though she doesn't know about the new Sephiroth yet that ends up causing them destroying the Destiny of the original where she has a chance to live. Because they destroyed the whispers there is nothing making them follow the story of the original, which is what Sephiroth wanted she he could have a chance at winning, but also created new timelines that don't follow the story. Which is why zack is seen as alive, but is in a different timeline. So this story might be completely different, or have some differences but possibly Aerith lives.

I loved what Crisis Core did for these two's relationship, and I hope whenever they get to the right part, they can maybe incorporate some of this in somehow. I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing how they meet for the first time.

Nomura stated Zack and Aerith's relationship was platonic while Aerith's feels towards Cloud were romantic due to the parts of Cloud that were truly Cloud and not Zack's mannerisms. Plus, there were still distinct differences between Cloud and Zack before memory restoration such as Cloud being very bashful and anti-social.

Zack and Aerith's relationship was in no way platonic! They are an actual cannon relationship, they were together in Crisis Core before he died he even tells Cloud he was her first love, and Zack loved Aerith so much he was on his way back to her, and told her to wait for him, he just didn't make it back because he died, but they were definitely not platonic! If anyone was platonic it was Cloud and Aerith, they may have grown feelings for each other but her true love was always Zack!

The only man for Aerith is zack, when they talk about their eyes all she thought about was zack and that's 100%

@@ofthecaribbean You don't have to, but it's the truth. Tifa is the one that awakens clouds real character. When Zack dies(during the original CC and FF7), Cloud absorbed Zack's memories, training, personality, identity almost the same way Itachi transfered his shariginan to Sasuke upon death. Cloud was by all accounts Zack's "Living legacy." This is why Tifa and cloud never spoke in between the point where he left town to become a SOLIDER and to the 5th year where Cloud and Zack are back into town and saves Tifa. Cloud failed the SOLIDER program and was instead a shinra grunt. He was ashamed and embarrassed, thus he never wrote back to Tifa. He suddenly jumps from shinra grunt to a first ranked SOLIDER, because Zack died a first rank. Also why some people have a hard time believe Cloud is a first rank to begin with because you share the same power status as the Elite war trio, Sephiroth, Angeal, and Genesis ( and later Zack after Angeal's death). Now if we include that this is the remake, she is from the future and already knows that Cloud isn't currently the "real" Cloud. Whereas in the original, Aerith saw zack in cloud and had feelings for him up to when Cloud gets closure after her death and she is reunited with Zack in the afterlife.

Damn, the original graphic. I know it's 1997, but man glad I live in an era where graphic is beautiful now.

Aerith actually does love Cloud at this time in my opinion. Besides the Aerith he is speaking to in the garden isn't actually her, it is a dream or it is the original timeline Aerith that has already died and returned to the planet appearing to him as she does in Advent Children.
