I'm glad to see this work somewhere other than the seller's website. I have five of these set out in different buildings, including the chicken coops where I know there are foraging mice. I haven't caught a single mouse in any of them. They weren't cheap either. I wish they worked for me as I was looking forward to catching mice in this way. They do go into other live catch traps without hesitation, but out deer mice just avoid "the best mousetrap ever" design. I'll keep trying, thanks Shawn!

As you say Shawn it may not be the best, but the design concept is very efficient. The mesh serves as the cage as well as the way for the mice to get to the top (instead of additional ramps) and then the lid is extended into the container to provide the slick sided 'trap'. It would be a very easy design to make. Nice and simple.

Interesting, they didn't go "gladiator" on each other like they usually do in multi catch traps. Perhaps it is in part due to the open wire cage design which they can also climb? Still worry if a third hopped in things would have gone sour though, both mice booth looked pretty tense to me.

I used to catch mice by leaning a yard stick against a metal trash can with a few peanuts in the bottom. I've never seen dead or injured mice. I can only guess the can wasn't checked until after the mice had been without food or moisture for several days. We used to keep dog food kibble in a metal trash can. That's how we discovered that metal trash cans are a natural mouse trap. All the mice need is a way to reach the top of the can.

I don't have any mice to catch but it looks like that could be easily made with a 3 liter coke bottle and a little of that mesh cloth. Bottle cut in half and the top turned upside down into a tube of the mesh that's possibly connected to the bottom by zip ties. More ties connecting the upside down top in the mesh tube. They could climb the outside like this video from the outside but climbing the inside they would meet the funnel like top over turned preventing their escape. Maybe Sturdy wire like twist ties on the bottom to release them.

  • @DavidLloyd810

Doesen't catching multiple mice in one live trap usually result in them fighting/ killing and even eating each other?

May or may not be the best ever, but it seemed to catch the only two mice there. Have you put it in the barn where there are dozens of mice?

Interesting trap but wouldn't the mice eat the bait and then prevent more mice from being caught? I suppose if you put LOTS of bait then they can have a snack and other mice can join them. Seeing all the various traps, for catch&release I think the best would be a hybrid of the rolling log trap and this one.. take the rolling log trap and simply add an aggressively sloped funnel to ensure they can't jump back out (which they will do with a rolling log trap bucket-style with no water obviously).
