    I like how systematically he breaks down each point and proves it. At the end of the video it's like he's almost pissed at the wrong ways ADHD is understood and treated. His research and the amount of understanding is commendable. Thank you, Dr. Barkley.

    @@madanjitender Thanks bhai Can you answer me a few questions- 1. Where do you live ? 2. What is your age and what was your age when you got diagnosed? 3. How much did it cost you to get the diagnosis? 4. How much does your Psychiatrist and Psychologist charge you per visit ? 5. What is the frequency of the visits ? 6. What are the monthly medications expenses?

    @@madanjitender Thank you so much Sir for enlightening me, and thank you so much for writing such an elaborate answer for clearing my every query, no one does this much ! I'm very grateful 🙏 I too am struggling with all these issues, time blendedness, motivation deficits, self inhibitions, procrastination, forgetfulness, etc.. I did got diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 27 after after a lot of misdiagnosis such as Depression, Anxiety and OCD, with different Psychiatrists. And even the Psychiatrists I visited in my city believed ADHD is a children's condition and you grow out of it and tried to convince me so.. but nothing else explained my my traits but ADHD. Ultimately a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist diagnosed me. And all the Psychiatrists I visited either denied or feared prescribing Stimulant medications, so I never got to try stimulant medications. I have only had been on Atomoxitine for a few months and that didn't help much. Further down a few months I decided to quit medical interventions because of monetary reasons and time consumption, And tried to manage it by myself in all other ways that I can like lifestyle management, environment management, etc.. Thank you so much for the information sir.

    The only thing I don't like is the implication that everyone will grow out of ADHD and being close to "normal" with the correct medication and therapy while being young. I'm an adult in my mid thirties and I'm still impaired. as is my father in his sixties. Some people might outgrow it, but not all. And the medication still helps us. We still need to change our surroundings to work in our favour. But we are also incredible great at tasks that are far from "normal". I believe that our environments impair us more than our brains. The world nowadays is not built for people with ADHD. Because we aren't the majority. Except that, I really like his work and am very thankful for his lectures etcetera.

    You know, as someone who has ADHD (like a lot of others that watch/listen to his videos)… I can actually listen and pay attention to what he’s talking about. Other people who talk on this subject… I have to replay… rewind… listen over and over just to get what the heck they’re saying. With him, the only reason I replay… is because he made a “holy crap that’s so true” point and I want to hear it again.

    Well, this sucks. I've been trying to "will" myself better for years. If that doesn't work, I'm out of options. I live in south Texas. The one psychiatrist that was seeing new patients when I started seeking treatment over a year ago, decided that if the two meds she preferred don't work she just wasn't going to treat me anymore. Yay.... American healthcare system.

Dexies and Ritalin both completely fucked me - they amplified my symptoms to a rather scary extent. I would be so traumatised if I didn't have another appointment and several backup plans for other medications to try. That really, really sucks.

    I am borderline suicidal or rather i think about how great death will be often, because I am so sick of being me. Everything seems to be a pain in the ass. Nothing does what it is supposed to do. I am pushing 50 years old and I swear I am getting worse. I cannot do tasks without misplacing tools. I misplace shit all the time. My "temper" is progressively worse. It seems like everything purchased sucks these days and I find myself repairing tools just to do a task. this find me throwing tools and extremely pissed off. I snap so fast, my garage walls have holes in them. I hate that ADD seems like it is bogus to society. So, I am really just a fucking idiot who can never be on time. I hate being me and dealing with this shit. I feel like I have never grown up and I have had problems with jobs over the years not because of performance but timeliness and attendance. I have been a major partier and adrenaline junky for my entire life and now the mediocrity is so fucking boring. To summarize, I live a boring unfulfilling life that pisses me off often and I am constantly tortured by my own stupidity. Just fucking wonderful.... Bring on the end as I am over it.

    I was conscripted into the south African infantry at 17yrs old. After a brutal training regime I found myself for 8 months fighting against Angolan/Cuban/Soviet armoured brigades at a place called Quito Cannavale. They were the biggest conventional battles on African soil since the second World War. 5 yrs ago I was diagnosed with PTSD. I was told to stop my work as a boiler maker/ welder because it was triggering experience of combat in an infantry fighting vehicle. I was given a very low level handicapped status and put on medication. Now at 50 looking for something else to do. I feel very let down by a system that I have been working for and contributing towards. Adhd is just one of the symptoms of PTSD amongst many others.

    interesting how our society defines how much attention and how much action and what action is normal and what is not. so certain way of living and interacting is considered abnormal and we have to fit it. and how this changes when discourse of society changes.

  • @raapyna8544

    @raapyna8544

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah sure. I'm always more or less late. I would do better in France, where it's considered normal to appear to parties after the agreed time. I would still struggle with studying and work environments, because I need to be there at the same time as others. I would still struggle with getting enough sleep because I lose track of time and executive functioning when I'm tired, but I don't notice myself getting tired, resulting in me freezing in whatever I'm doing in stead of going to sleep. I would still be easily hurt and hold grudges towards people and have trouble with social relations. I do great on summer holiday when I can wake and fall asleep with the sun and nothing is expected of me except routine tasks. Add a level of schedule and arranging activities for more people than myself, and soon I'm behind. Environment can make a difference, but my weaknesses are not a matter of an opinion. I get your good intentions with this comment and I wish people would treat me without making a big thing out of it. But I still will struggle with these problems regardless of what other people think about them. I also wish I didn't have trouble with getting things done that I care about, for myself. I have plenty of art projects I wish I could just sit down and finish and publish. My life is constantly scattered on the floor and I keep dropping things again when I pick them up. (Figuratively speaking) I wish I could just accept myself for who I am and that would be where my struggles end. But I have tried being more compassionate towards myself and demanding less of myself, and it didn't prevent people around me in volunteering from being really frustrated with my irreliability, and it didn't finish my art projects, it didn't get me to university, it didn't help me wake on time for work, or my finals exams... Yeah I want to be normal and accepted, but I've tried so hard for so long. Now I want help so I don't have to deal with the inner suffering that came from trying to laugh away my troubles and perceiving myself as uncapable of finding work and independence. I'm a 25-year-old with a destination to changing the world, trying to wrestle with a 17-year-old in the driver's seat who wants to go cruising around town and flirt with girls and get in fights. How am I supposed to get anywhere? Drug that bstard and put him in the trunk, or learn how to work together.

    Alan Berkeley, let's hear your qualifications to be a bona fide medical critic of the ADHD medical/psychiatric community, and Dr. R. Barkley in particular, please. You are free to use as much space as you used in posting your diatrible. Include in your comments your justification for labeling thousands of grateful adults now diagnosed with ADD/ADHD as "Liars."

    You, like many others who think or have been labeled as ADHD you might actually be and Active-Alert: Here is the test: 1. Does you child have a seemingly endless supply of energy? 2. Can your child attend to a task, like being read to or playing a game with a parent? 3. Does/did your child wake up often throughout the night or have difficulty getting to sleep (often seen as fidgeting) 4. Does/did your child seem to need very little sleep as an infant or toddler? 5. Would the last words from your child’s mouth be, “I am tired”. 6. Does your child seem to “wind up” over the coarse of the day. That is, did their energy seem to build upon itself? 7. Does your child’s memory of details amaze you? 8. Is your child quick and bright in certain areas of learning? 9. Does your child seem to have an unending wealth of “good ideas”. 10. Does it seem as if your child tries to be the “boss” of your family or their friends? 11. Does your child want his/her own way most of the time and have difficulty accepting a “no” answer? 12. Did you miss the terrible twos in your child’s development because you never experienced anything different? 13. In new situations is your child more uncertain or fearful than others? 14. Is your child intensely emotional - very happy and or very sad with little in between? 15. Does your child experience a pattern of moods - from positive to negative and back again that seem hard for him/her to control? I.e. very upset they are unable to accomplish something, will have a tantrum or pout and nothing you say or do seems to help except for distraction) 16. Is it difficult for your child to play alone, especially up to age 6 or 7? (often they will want you as their playmate. 17. Is it difficult for your child to determine how to be a good friend, that is, she/he either sits and watches others or tries to be the boss? 18. Does your child think he/she is just terrific or totally stupid with little ability to believe that they might be just average or ok? A kind of all or nothing attitude. 19. Do other people say they have no difficulties with your child? 20. Do you sometimes wonder if your child has “read your mind? 21. Does your child use logic to reason with you? If you answered YES to a majority of these questions you are probably an Active Alert! Bonus: Ask the professional accessing you or your child to explain what an Active-Alert is. If they can't then they can't possible give you a diagnosis worth paying for!!!

    To anybody who has ADHD themselves: run away from this man and seek real help instead of listening to his speeches. Make a quick research, he is outdated and ill mannered when handling the topic. Seriously, his views are of no help other than to make people in charge of the kids hate the kids without medication.
