Adding Gorgeous Hostas to My Shade Garden! (2 plants in 1)

Welcome Gardeners. . . I am SO in LOVE with my new Proven Winners Shadowland® 'Autumn Frost' Hosta. This striking Hosta forms a medium sized mound of showy, frosty blue leaves with extra wide, bright yellow margins. It will definitely add a new pop of color to my shade garden. But the best part is. . . I am going to DIVIDE it and make 2 plants from 1. I hope this video encourages you to divide your plants too so you can save money and get more plants for your garden!

Great video, Liz! I have not had any luck with hostas but I have a cool black and purple velvety leaved begonia that produces the prettiest pink spray of flowers that I divided again this year. Peace Lilies, Lily of the Nile, Lobster Claw, Ginger(s), Turmeric(s), Orchid(s), Blackberry Iris were on my list for division this year. Just got eight new colorful hanging planters for my airplane plant babies - acid green:) like my Queen of the Garden curly metal chair, white for my new arbor and coffee-colored for a dark corner, plus orchid pink and sky blue. I'm having fun painting a table top this week - Happy Gardening to you Liz - those Hostas look stunning.

Hi Miss Liz that is a great little piece of info. I always look at the base of the plant to see how many plants are in the pot. Can you say frugal? Nowadays us gardeners just have to get our money's worth, plants have zoomed up in price over the last few years. We have Starr Nursery here in Northern Arizona which really undercut the big box stores in price. It's my gettin' place for lush hardy plants. I like the hosta I think I'm going to give them another bash in a shaded area in my front garden. I have clay soil which I amend but apparently hosta does well in clay. I think I might put them in pots to see if I have success that way. I'll get back to you with the verdict. Have a blessed day enjoying your beautiful oasis.

I grow all my hostas in pots and they do well. Be sure to get a mini hosta if you can. I love the mouse series ones and I also like the slender leaf types like curly fries. Also you might want to give coral bells a try because there are so many beautiful leaf ones to choose from. Happy gardening.

When you buy hostas that are larger than quart size, then there is usually more than one plant in the pot. Like you I then will divide mine. But since all my hostas are grown in pots, I will also put them in pots. Now you need to try the mini size ones like the mouse types.

@@GardenHappy The mini and slender leaf hostas are hard to find. I have gotten a few at the box stores as well at my local nursery, so when I see them I immediately buy them. You may not find them until next spring because it is late in the growing season now. I have party streamers and praying hands and one or two of the mini mouse ones.

Hey! 😇 I just added a shade to my garden bed, I think the hot sun here in town is starting to stress out the seedlings I have. Same with my chilies they been so stressed lol. I got some chilies from Costco and the wind knocked down the chilies & the stem broke. It was starting to flower too. Also do you know if the string of banana plant (not sure if I got the name right) sells seeds? I planted lemon grass too hopefully it grows. I added the shade too because in my backyard I keep getting birds eating seeds I planted lol 😂

Good morning Gabe our heat definitely stresses out plants for sure. I would put the chili plants in tomato cages. I always put all my veggies in tomato cages and that helps them a lot. The string of bananas don’t like full sun. At least not our full afternoon sun. I would give those morning sun only and I think they will do much better. Hope that helps. I don’t know if this string of bananas sells seeds. But if you buy a plant, you could take pieces off it and propagate to make more.🥰👍❤️Liz

@@GardenHappy late good morning/afternoon 😇🎉 yea my chilies & tomato plant are so sad even with watering but the heat like you mentioned is stressing them out. I will get some tomato cages for sure. Kristina gave me sugar snap peas 🫛 but I think the summer heat is killing them. She gave me two & two are not so well lol. There like 2 months old seedlings. 🌱. I feel so bad when the plants she gives me some don’t make it, so far like 4 lol. Including the banana plant lol. It root rotted I think since I had it in the house. I planted carrots too. I’m looking for a netting shade roof thing like a tent for plants since I have all my chilies on this wood post on my lawn going across & using cinder block to hold the 4x4 wood like a long table. Hard to explain but I just made a set up for it lol. I planted some peanuts I think I found one sprout 🌱 in the garden bed too 😎

You planted peanuts oh how fun I’ve never tried that before. Yes I know the veggies get stressed out in this heat, but just water them every day, maybe even twice a day in the morning and at night and they will get through it. I promise. Stay cool, my friend.🥰❤️👍Liz

@@GardenHappy I got the raw peanuts from the flea market I think about 2/3 weeks ago was so hard to find them in stores lol. Almost all were roasted. I put some in the fridge to sprout with wet napkin/ plastic bag, experiment but found out they don’t grow in cold lol. Thank you 😇🙏🏻🎉, yea I keep remind myself to get up to water in the morning 😇. Lucky my chilis are getting less stressed 😎. I’m still planning to met you have to stop by at rayles 😎 planning to buy some suger snap peas & lemon balm, cilantro seeds at tractor supply. Today I went with Kristina to Turlock help at the farmers market 😇🙏🏻🎉 was super fun, even tho a group of people always gets me a bit anxious it was super fun 😎.

Hey Gabe, I think peas are done for the season. They are a cold season veggie so they won’t do well this time of year. At least that’s what I’ve been taught. Also, once your veggies get more established roots, they won’t stress as much in the heat. so probably stress because maybe they were plants? Anyway, hope you’re having a great day and nice chatting with you about Garden stuff.👍👍👍Liz
