Adcom GCD-575 CD player - CD stuck inside - Drawer wont open.

Ғылым және технология

An Adcom GCD-575 came in with the complaint that the drawer will not open. After a little disassembly I found the tray loading belt was broken. A new belt and a cleaning and it is just like new.

Just picked one of these up today. Listing as I type this. Sounds top notch. Suspension sucks. But my God this blows my Peachtree out the water

Nice service on this interesting old player. The "176kHz sampling" claim is a bit dubious mind; it's a standard TDA1541A with four times oversampling, but that's no bad thing. Not seen one in the flesh but I remember they got a good write up in the late 80s when they came out.

Thanks again for the great job Steve. My favorite sounding CD player. I like it better than the Redbook playback on my Sony Ns999es SACD player. The TDA 1541 chip in it makes CDs sound like records played on my Merrill Heirloom turntable. I've heard many CD players and outboard processors throughout the last 30 years and this Adcom is what I come back to.

Another "belter" and relatively easy fix; featuring a special guest appearance by Mr. Acetone.

I used an O-Ring for a belt to fix my dvd player, the loading belt was slipping, so I order a O-Ring, soon as I got it in the mail, I took the dvd player apart, took out the old loading belt, replace it with the O-Ring, it did the trick, dvd player now works good as new.

In a loading (not speed dependent) situation that should work perfectly.

@@norcal715 the old belt use to open dvd drawer quicker I guess probably it was slipping, put the O-ring on opens bit slower than before, still works good, this was about 3 months ago when I fix the dvd player, should that be ok though?

If you can find it, Stereo Review, gave this unit high marks. They used to test equipment for review...this unit tracked disc defects very well and had a quality output stage. It sold for about $630 in the early 90's, which was pricey then.

Great video, thank you! I am experiencing some problems with this cd player: playing some discs I can hear annoying "clicking" noises on speakers. Music is not jumping or skipping, just adding this noise to the sound. Do you know what can cause this issue?

Roughly what diameter was that o-ring? I can’t seem to find belts that small 15-20mm. I’ve bought a few multipacks from Amazon but they never have those small belts. Nice repair btw! 🇮🇪

I bought my GCD 575 new in 1991, and it's still beautiful and mint. The tray closes immediately after I open it. Is it just that little switch dealy? If so, I'm wondering how hard it it to get at.

I wonder why someone soldered the wire wraps. I don't think that is standard practice.

Your video jumps from assembled to the chassis covers removed. Could you possibly show, say what you did to get the covers off please. If you use a wrist grounding strap, would you still have to short out those 2 solder joints? Or what if you attached a grounding wire to the chasis while working on it?

you only have to short the laser grounding pads if you disconnect the laser from the main board, in a stand alone state. Sorry I didn't show the complete disassembly.

Hi Getting an “E” message on display after CD loads. If the drawer opens snd closes, would that eliminate a broken belt being the cause?

  • @luca767

@@eddiedegeorgis8842 it’s probably the belt. I have the same: the tray opens and closes but then the whirring and E message appear. I found that the belt is hardened and slipping, not allowing to complete the disc clamping. I’m now looking for a replacement belt.
