Every now and then I'll receive a speaker that does not have any markings, so I will use my multimeter to figure out the ohms value. Awesome video thank you.

One AAA or AA battery will do it. Enough to see/hear is it working without doing any damage. Even easier test is with amplifier (all have protection).

I like your methodical approach to problems. I need your help. CRT JVC AV-29SX17 shuts down immediately after power on. the relay clicks. line out put has 135 volts.

i was told on a two channel stereo that is you had a bad speaker on either side and you cranked it up you could blow the amp because there is no resistance on the amp from that speaker blow out that channel kind of like putting a brick on your gas pedal in neutral instead of having it in gear dont know how true that is but the same person also showed me how to run speakers in series if you want to run multiple speakers through out the house and in doing so in series you maintain the resistance

I had that problem on one channel on my Magnavox astrosonic, it only acted up on the phono... turned out the 55 year old cartridge was on the way out and causing the highs to stop working on one channel. but if you tapped the tone arm the highs would pop back in for a few seconds and then quit again...

I found a couple of Infinity 2 way bookshelf speakers at Goodwill for about $12.00. They looked good so I bought them. Get them home and find that both tweeters were dead. They had melted wires where they hooked to the terminal. I cautiously resoldered the really fine wires, and they're working once again. Both woofers had a 3 inch tear in the foam surround in the exact same place. I used some flexible rubber cement on both tears and fixed that. They sound wonderful once again. I'm guessing someone really over drove those speakers to the point of melting the tweeter connecting wires and ripping the foam surround. Does anyone know if that's correct?

Hi. Thank you for that presentation. I do understand the difference between resistance and impedance. Out of curiosity I checked what result will I get if I connect a multimeter to the back of Focal Chorus 714s rated as 8 ohm / 90 watt. The DC resistance came back as 4 ohm . Speakers are all fine and work really well , given the fact there is a crossover in the equation and i dont want to open the box so i could check the very speakers inside separately - would you say this difference between rating 8 ohm and dc resistance showing 4 ohm is normal? Thank you.

I wish I would have been able to see you test the speaker other than “magic” hands. Like what where and how did you do it?

The coupling capacitor had broken off of the terminal of the tweeter. Just had to solder it back.

@@norcal715 I don't think he means the repair of the tweeter, but how you measure the impedance with the multimeter? At least, I know I would have liked to have seen that. Do you just connect the probe points to the speaker inputs at the back of the box, or do you have to get in there?
