Adam Savage Repairs Totoro Cosplay!
Ғылым және технология
Adam Savage and the Tested team ran a cosplay repair booth at this year's Silicon Valley Comic Con, and Adam was so delighted to find another Totoro cosplayer at the show! Adam helps repair this Totoro costume, which is a different take on the character than Adam's own build. Plus, Adam geeks out over an amazing Darkseid cosplay!

Right? He'd find some incredibly simple way to fix literally everything in half an hour and make it stronger in the process.
Seriously, Adam seems like the nicest, chillest dude, like he's had this huge fame, done such important and great things, worked with such high class, world-renowned people, yet he never acts like it, he just seems like such a friendly, happy person who can chill with anyone and will help anyone, i love it! Anyway, i recently got into sewing, and when i say recently got into it, i had to sew something (A Totoro teddy coincidentally XD) with no idea how to sew, what a seam line is, never touching a needle, nothing, it's not the prettiest thing but people said considering it was literally impossible to know less, i did a really great job, and i wanna do it more! But something i loved, i have horrible eyesight and am a really shaky person, yet I've found i can get the thread through the needle on the first try every time, i feel so proud about that XD

His Totoro is so cool! Glad the strap was a relatively easy fix. Having a strap break at a con is never fun EXCEPT FOR WHEN THIS HAPPENS 👍🏻 And Shelly looks great too! 😍

Omg me too! It was so well received critically and I thought it was great but it's one of those movies that a lot of people have forgotten. So weird.
Such a unique take. Creepy yet charming :)

I think it's the teeth. Holy crap
When Adam was threading the needle, looking over his glasses to focus, he had a moment where he reminded me of Richard Dreyfuss from Jaws. I love seeing him work.
I am a techie, and I do nails with UV cured gel polish, If anyone at Tested has this guy's details (or if you're interested), I'll happily make a pictorial or try my hand at a video clip to explain the techniques he (Michael if I made it out correctly) talks about.
I've said it before, I'll say it again; my favorite Tested episodes are where Adam geeks out. He gets happy over the smallest things.
That Totoro is amazing but it looks mix between Totoro and Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.

I feel it would be better if the teeth were more jagged and animal like rather than... What appears to be humanoid teeth? I'm way more into sharp and pointy teeth than whatever that is lol

That is phenomenal. Not only the lovely picture at the end, but also signing his umbrella.
Adam Savage just casually said the word "fursuit" with excitement and anticipation in his voice ❤️❤️❤️
You have always been such an inspiration to me! MythBusters was what got me interested in science and tech, and this stuff you are doing now with Tested happened to coincide with my interest in cosplay and propmaking. I honestly don't know how to put this in words. But thank you :) I don't think I would be the person I am today without your influence, and for that I am happy

The Totoro outfit looks damn good, and then the Darkseid outfit blows me away... Beautiful cosplay! What an amazing couple.
Such a kind soul
This would be a great way to begin a new "series". Go to comic-cons and let people meet some of the cosplayers on a more personal basis. Was really fun seeing the stuff other people make and it just goes to show that you don't have to be Adam to make some amazing stuff.
What an awesome couple of cosplayers!!! :D Huge props to them for all their work!

What are the chances this dude just ripped that part apart just to be able to show Adam Savage his awesome Totoro costume? Not that I blame him or anything; I'd do exactly the same thing... :D

As someone with a larger than optimal experience with sewing and mending, the way that thing was frayed looked to me like it had dealt with a heavy load over a longer period of time (many small tugs and consistent tension), this is not the ripping you would get from a large force all at once. As you could see, Adam folded it over before sewing it back on, this helps prevent that kind of wear, because there's a slight buffer of the "second" row of stitches (after the fold) that all the fabric between the "first" row (before the fold) gets pushed onto, thus making it less likely that the fabric slowly frays all the way down.

Probably not. SVCC and Tested had a cosplay lounge running all weekend and offered supplies and advice for repairs. I used their mirrors this year and their brush and glue gun last year. They probably just saw this guy come in for a needle and thread and said, "Wait here, I'm getting Adam."
Adam needs to hire that guy to make costumes with him. Imagine the ability and images they could create.
A blend of Adam's costume's dimensions and the realism of this guy's costume, and you'd pretty much have the perfect Totoro.
I love how kind Adam is and how he really listens to and cares about what people are saying to him. He asks questions because he actually wants to know the answer. I hope someday I can meet him, too.
I love that Totoro so much. Beautiful craftsmanship!
I love how excited Adam gets over cosplay, and how cool he is. Those two cosplays are amazing!
I took my photo with you, fellow cosplayer! Your Totoro is incredible. Adam is not overstating.
Both costumes are AWESOME!...Absolute and utter respect to those two masters.

Not being very familiar with Darkseid, I thought maybe it was Samus from Metroid at first, until I noticed the skulls.
I love the realistic approach.
Adam, please please get these two in your workshop for a colab!!!
so much joy in this! this should be a series. have a couple of cosplay create/repair workshop weekends, film them, ???? , profit!
I always enjoy Adam's reactions in moments like these. And the fact he loves to learn from others.
I bet he doesn't just repair cars... he probably turns it into an artwork! He is amazing with the costume
Adam. You are so generous with your talent and time. Ty for sharing.
Adam Savage is such a great guy to help these fans out.
Omg both of them look amazing! Great job guys!
Yo Adam! All ways love to see your enthusiasm for creativity on here! Thank you for continuing to make videos and such!
I wanted to go to this con so bad. Thanks so much to Adam for continuing to support the cosplay community. Awesome!
Bruce and Clark! lolol So brilliant
Their costumes looked amazing! :D
A costume repair booth is brilliant!!! Kudos!
that is awesome! I hope to see more content like this!
Make this a series!!!!!!
Great costumes, and when someone has a day job and still manage to find some time to do this, they get an extra credit 👍🏻👏🏻🏅
Adam "Cosplay Repairman" Savage
Love how Adam takes the time to repair the costume.
The teeth on that are amazing! It's just brilliant work.
Im so glad Adam does this now. I grew up watching mythbusters and falling in love witth Adam’s personality and always wanted to meet him but when I heard mythbusters was coming to an end I resigned myself to the fact that i may never get to meet him. And then i found out he does stuff like this and i got really into the convention scene as i got older and now i’d love to visit him at his repair shop of only to shake his hand
0:20 I am sorry but nobody mentioned Shelly... THIS COSTUME IS SICK! looks like a live-action DarkSeid

"I never feel more comfortable than when there's tools in my hand." Good night, everybody!
omg the face is terrifyingly amazing.. im scared and love it lol
I love all of this.
That is such an amazing Totoro, so much personality!
mega sweaty costume? no problem Adam jumps right in!
Adam has renewed my faith in cosplay! GET IT DUDE!
Fantastic video
Can't wait for the Hellboy cosplay!! And or even 9. Sounds bad ass
Nice too see you using those stiches. I never learned sowing but just tried it and this stich came natural too me. Someone once told me it's a semi forgotten stich and where i learned it.
Wow, I'm surprised Adam doesn't use the pinched-thread technique. That method works amazing. You get the tip of the thead wet like he did but you pinch the very tip of the thread between your thumb and index finger and then slide the needle open-eye between those fingers and it really helps force the thread through the needle-eye as the thread has no where else to go.
adam is so pure omfg
That Totoro is amazing!
UV resin is popular with crafters and makers who work on a small scale, such as making charms or jewelry. It's better than two-part resins for this because it doesn't need to be measured precisely, so there's no minimum amount you have to make at one time and so there's very little waste. It also cures quickly (10-30min) and doesn't need a well-ventilated area, so it's great for working at a bedroom desk or other small space. You don't even need a special light source, because it will even work if left out on a sunny windowsill. Plus since it doesn't harden unless exposed to UV, cleanup is relatively easy. The main drawback is the molds have to be completely clear and colorless to allow the UV light to reach every part of the resin, and you can be in big trouble if the weather doesn't cooperate. I've seen UV resin craft kits, often imported from Japan, come with little UV flashlights like bouncers will use to check IDs at clubs. I expect these kinds of kits to become more and more common at US craft stores in the next few years.
This made me smile.
That head is amazing!
Awesome that you are doing that for people. :)
This was truly awesome.
That is so awesome.
I have always admired all the amazing things u have in ur collection! 😁🙂
Adam is literally the coolest dude of all time, period.
Gorsh, I'm bingeing on Adam's Totoro videos
“I’m never more comfortable than when I have tools in my hand” I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thinks this, that feeling of peace when I pick up a spanner 🤪
Thats gonna be the cosplay for the live action movie
Pleeease make more cosplays I adore your videos they inspire me to make my own cosplays :D
Adam running some 1 day cosplay workshops would be awesome!
That’s terrifying I love it so much
This video was so wholesome. :)

What a great couple! :D
Alumilite UV is a great uv cure epoxy. Well worth trying. I occasionally it for handmade timber fishing lures.
Relationship goals!
I kinda wanna see the number 8 costuke now... 9 was a fantastic movie and the idea of a cosplay from it is awesome.
It's great to see other cosplay that is a creepier take on the source material. Even if that wasn't the intention of his build, it still looks creepy and amazing.
Adam got so excited to see another Totoro. It was like watching a child on Christmas day who can't wait to open his presents.
Damn Adam... Popping that guy's umbrella!
I love that man; he is my hero.
Out Standing Job .. Thanks for the Video .
