Why have you Americans chased away and forced Alien out of Hollywood all the way to the other side of the planet? Wouldn't it have been better for Los Angeles economy to do Alien there?

Robin, agree, but this dream job comes at a toll. All the things he sees means he'll need a bigger personal cave for more stuff! Adam should just make the commitment to open up his own museum to the public to share his collection and make some extra money for doing so. So what would it take, 50,000 square feet? ;*)

Prometheus was pretty much a verbatim rip off of O'Bannon and Schussett's original, unmodified story for 'alien'.. except for the addition of the 'company' and an android to do the company's whims without humanity.. wait.. isnt that their contribution to the original, too? Lol!
@jimfox6943

CaptainMcSmoky it's funny when I saw the promotional stuff for Prometheus I never realised it was connected to alien I just didn't pay attention to it because I didn't know it was connected. I can remember watching it for the first time with my father and I saw the ship and I just said "that's the fucking ship from alien" and dad was like what no it can't be, then I continued to watch it and started to make connections. As a fan of the alien movies (not 3 or 4) I was disappointed that I could not know that this film was based in the same universe and it gutted me that a person can almost watch the entire film and not make the connection.
Nice! I look forward to more of this. Thanks for sharing this with us, Adam!

So essentially your critique amounts to you putting to much thought into some action movies and whining when it doesn't align to your specific pondering.
It's great that practical sets are coming back. The all-greenscreen sets where horrible and had a negativ effect on the actors performance. CG is great if used as a tool to enhance practical effects and bad if everything is replaced by it.
@boggisthecat
7 жыл бұрын
Billy Causey You probably aren't even aware of how much CG is in films (and TV) now. It is poorly done CG that is a problem. Of course there is a big impact on actors. The Star Wars prequels were very flat because the actors had nothing to act within, and in some cases weren't even able to perform together when they ended up pasted into the same scene. (Lucas dropped the ball on a lot of other things, too -- but he should have known better about the all green screen approach.)
@skyworm8006
7 жыл бұрын
Are you sure about that? "CGI" is used in almost every scene in every movie with a decent amount of money behind it, people just don't notice and harp on about it being shit when it's used poorly. Without noticing it being used well (which is 99% of the time).

The problems are achieving believable movements of all the elements, and seamless lighting and blending (the problem isn't detail, it's sharpness and/or poor antialiasing algorithms) with the whole environment... No matter how advanced or powerful the computers get. Realism is something that you can't get out of nowhere if there's no real, direct reference to begin with...
@herrakaarme

@@boggisthecat I recall Ian McKellen saying he wanted to walk out of the Hobbit production because, compared to the LOTR, so many of the sets were nothing but green sceens and there often weren't even other actors presents. In this sense I think the virtual set technique used recently in the Mandalorian tv series recording is quite nice for the actors. Lets hope it will develop to be good enough for films, not just tv series, so that actors will get into the roles better and enjoy the filming process more, to make the movies all the better and inspired.
Adam, you are one of the most fortunate people alive. Thank you for sharing.

People don't understand how much work is put in to filming every single scene! I acted in 3 movies in my country but for foreign companies and I had small roles, really small, in one I didn't talk in two I did but not a lot, maybe 10 lines in total (both movies). Anyway my point is that I had some really rough days on the set, not that I complain but it was filming for like 16 hours non stop because it was recorded in national assembly and time was really limited, they had to open and I'm sure that every single movie have similar challenges no matter the budget. I have huge respect for those people who work there. Imagine being dressed up in 1900 soldier uniform, full equipment from that era and working on 40 degrees Celsius + lights and makeup, sweating like donkey 😂 I didn't have perspective how hard it is until I started to work.
I like how the music changed when Ridley Scott was shown. Very dramatic.
I'm so jealous right now😒

Finn Weber why you got to see it?
Looking at the set it seems to be drifting further and further from Giger's Biomechanic concepts becoming less fluid and organic and more hard edged, it was part of the beauty, horror and mystery of the original Alien derelict was that it was like a carcass of some ancient creature in its own right, it was that contrast between the Nosromo and the alien derelict that was a visual collision between two very different worlds that made me love Alien. I can remember watching Prometheus and feeling genuine anger that the Space Jockey was a big white bald dude in a suit, it was such an utter failure of imagination and such a wasted opportunity to build on a truly unique concept that I felt depressed walking out.

Agreed. Prometheus was just terrible, but the space jockeys being big white CG dudes wearing Gyger suits was a huge cop-out. And teasing the Space Jockey seat and crashed ship, then making it a different ship, was a huge cop-out. Also the incredibly stupid choices made by each and every member of the crew. Also Guy Pearce in old man makeup for no reason. I could go on.
I didn't realize that Ridley Scott was left handed until I saw the two of you shake hands. Signs of creativity...

Wow, incredible. The alien series is timeless and one of the best in my opinion.
Ridley Scott is an old-school film maker who used practical effects instead of cgi as much as possible. He scares the studio suits by using every penny of budget on making the sets as perfect as he wants. The “space jockey” set was one of the physically largest and most costly in recent history. Totally worth it.

I love film sets. It just amazes me when you stand to the side of one - lean one side and you see scaffold, wood, plaster ... then lean to the other side and it's another world or place in time. I grew up in London and Death Wish 4 was filmed on the hospital grounds where I was born (the hospital was in the process of being demolished). It was just up the top of my Nan's street. It was incredible to be in London, yet walking around on some run-down streets of "Detroit". When I was older I had the opportunity to become an "Extra" or "Background Artiste" as they are called over there. My first film was Star Wars Ep1 and the sets were mind-blowing. I got to talk to Ray Park while he was in complete Darth Maul make-up (it was totally believable even face-to-face) and several of the set builders & prop masters while they were working. Almost everything else I had a part of were location shoots, which was disappointing for a person like me who loved film sets.
Unreal. This is the stuff that makes me wanna be a production designer.
It is amazing how many artists and craftspeople the film industry employs
Awesome, wish I could be there just to watch even one small segment of live filming..

It can't have been a coincidence that this was posted on 4/26. *Happy* *Alien* *Day*!

Adam, you're like a kid in a candy store, and I salute you for it. Thanks for sharing :)

I think if I was ever in an Alien Movie and got to stand on the set for the Space Jocky gun, I think I would begin to cry before anything. Because its so remarkable and astonishing to see the work that people can do, and also, because its Alien.
I know this is a sponsored video, and not everyone will agree with it. I find this whole thing fascinating, Adam's enthusiasm for his craft and in seeing how it's made.
