Yes. What is funny is that he isn't even close to the second best athlete ever (Tyson Gay and Yohan Blake at 9.69,). They are 0.11 away from the world record. The best 3 times ever run are Bolt. Two of those (beijing 2008 and berlin 2009) were world records. He set 3 world record in the 100m, even his 9.71 is faster than Fred Kerley. In total, 8 people managed to run faster times. He only has the 15 fastest sprint time, joint with 6 (!) times of other sprinters. Bolt has 7 of the 15 fastest times ever run... Then we have Tyson Gay, Yohan Blake and Asafa Powel and Justin gatlin who all have run multiple times faster than Fred Kerley. It looks by those statistics that is is a bad sprinter, since even the american record at 9.69 is not his. He even ran at +1.4 wind, Bolt ran both his first record 9.69 at +0.0 wind (!!) amd his second at mere +0.9 wind which equalling wind reading will make Bolt even more Elite. In order for Fred to break Bolt's record he needs to be way faster than his personal best, even with +2.0 wimd it is unlikely. Given this time of year is even less likely yet, heck, even Bolt ran his fastest times in World Championship and Olympic finals. Conclusion: VERY UNLIKELY

Yep, and each of Bolt's WRs were far more impressive than they first seem 9.72WR was after a rainstorm that initially cancelled the 100m, there was a 3 hour delay, Bolt ran at 11:30PM at night, and after a false start. He had about 20-30mins notice to re-warm up, it was chilly and wet, he won't have eaten properly. 9.69WR equates to a 9.63 with no showboating, so a 9.53 with a maximum wind, and all Bolt ate in Beijing was copious Chicken McNuggets, occasionally fries and apple pies. His SHOELACES WERE UNDONE in the race - he forgot to tie them. 9.58WR was only four months after a car crash where he had thorns tear into his bare feet, I believe he had to take three weeks off from training. The Berlin track was said to not be the fastest. Bolt ran slower splits at the start than he did in Beijing. He looked to his right multiple times mid-race.

If Fred never "touches the 100m" again, then his Twitter statement is technically true. In logic, this is called a "vacuous truth". This term is used to describe a situation where a conditional statement is considered true because the premise (the "if" part) is never satisfied. I'm not sure this was Fred's thinking, but I just wanted to wear my Aristotle hat for a moment.

I think the only person that can beat a world record is someone with exactly that attitude. People just don't say it out loud because everyone will clown them for it. What's actually sad is that nobody will support an athlete that decides to believe in himself. The sad thing is that people will clown him even more if he doesn't beat the record in his next race... and those people miss the point entirely. Unless you believe you can be the best tomorrow, you'll never be the best and it's as simple as that. It's like Babe Ruth calling his shot, you'll laugh at him if he strikes out but you'll stare in awe if he hits it. A lot of people jump right to the laughing part but if he beats the world record in a few years I hope people learn to respect the attitude that leads to greatness.

It's worth noting that Usian Bolt's record has just recently surpassed Jim Hine's 100m record (1968-1983) to be the longest lasting in history (2009 - Present). Almost 15 years. So Powell is right about it being there for a very long time.

Idk if he’ll break the world record in his next race or even the American record and truthfully no one does especially since we can’t see him while he’s training, but I think it’s great that he’s putting his goal out there because to me it doesn’t sound like he’s being overconfident it’s probably more likely that he made a breakthrough in practice and feels like he can replicate that in competition. I will say that hitting the same times or race execution in a race is much, much more difficult to do on the track where the world can see a lot of athletes hit way better times in practice than in competition for one reason or another. I think he’s gonna put down a pretty great time, he’s shocked the world before and I think he can do it again in his next race.

I think one huge reason as to why 100m times are so slow this year is because athletes are unintentionally slowing down after hitting top speed as they don't want to get even slightly injured this close to the Olympics.

People seem to forget that Usain Bolt is the only one with the times of 9.58 seconds (world record) and 9.63 (Olympic record). And even Yohan Blake and Tyson Gay, who equaled his time of 9.69 seconds, were only able to do so thanks to a favorable tailwind. We can say that in a way Usain Bolt has "protected” his world record with another record. In other words, to get closer to 9.58 seconds, you must already reach Usain Bolt's 2nd best time of 9.63. Which will not happen anytime soon.

I edited my comment to include analysis results, instead of just passing along advice. The top 100m times are *not* significantly different (2021-2024). I just did a simple one-way ANOVA on the times you posted from 2021-2024 (small sample size, so take it with a grain of salt) F(3, 40) = 1.597, p = 0.21. Since p is greater than 0.05, we cannot reject the null hypothesis. Meaning, the chance that the differences are due to the factor of ‘year' is lower than 95%. This threshold for significance of difference is the standard in most of science (with even more stringent p-values in some cases)

He could be psyching himself because he's not up to form, or...
