Lloyd Bridges was a class act. When I was a kid we had a cabin in the same place Lloyd did. We would run into him occasionally. He was the most polite, kind, personable and hospitable person one could meet, even to some star stuck knucklehead kids. His kindness meant a lot. He was a True Gentleman. Fast forward to Jeff winning Best Actor. There is some justice in the universe.

In the Summer of '92 I was walking down the street in Cologne Germany with some classmates, and we saw Lloyd Bridges. We walked up to him to say hello and to thank him for all of the entertainment he had provided us over the years. We were able to get our picture taken with him. He asked me what my favorite movie of his was, and I said "Airplane" He commented that "everybody says that. I've made so many great movies and that's the one everybody loves." I told him that for people my age, it would be their favorite. He was so nice to us, he was a great man. It was also funny that all of the Germans were looking at him wondering who he was...

I ran into Lloyd Bridges once. It was April 29, 1992. I was going into the Laemmle Royal Theater in West LA to see Howard's End. Lloyd and his wife (I assume) was coming out from the previous show. It was quite a thrill (love Airplane and Sea Hunt). What made it even more memorable was coming out of the movie at 8/9 pm to find that LA was under siege. The Rodney King verdict was announced that day. The next few days were also memorable.

And it’s one of the best because of seeing Jeff bridges and Tommy Lee Jones together in an action movie. And it came out the same year as speed and true lies which also dealt with terrorism and bombs and explosions. It still is a classic to me and better than Arlington road 5 years later.

I imagine Jeff getting close to throwing the movie when the producer asked him to have Lloyd read for a part. But then knowing the pleasure of having his dad "knock it out of the park" as he said, in the audition. The one thing hollywood did was creating typecasting, because it´s not the actor, it never was. As many comedians have shown many many times, is that they make the best drama performances(but almost no drama actor can be funny).

🤦🏻‍♀️ Beau Bridges is his older brother. They seem to be lovely people, love the Bridges boys. Requiescat in pace, Lloyd.

Here in Australia it was reported that Lloyd Bridges was an ex navy diver. It would have been great if Jeff played the son in Seinfeld. All the main actors in Flying High (way better title then Airplane) had appeared in Aircraft disaster movies.

Lloyd also appeared with Jeff in Tucker, The Man & His Dream. Lloyd played a corrupt Senator trying to crush Preston Tucker's startup enterprise before it could get off the ground.

Lloyd Bridges, like his contemporaries Robert Mitchum, Sterling Hayden and others initially made their mark in Hollywood doing film noir, one of the best genres. I'm surprised it wasn't until Sea Hunt that he started making good coin. That was fairly well into his career.

Well, back then a "regular gig" was making coin...so having a contract for a T.V show was basically "money in the bank" as opposed to doing one film a every other year.
