I'm new to Acronis, I just purchased a new external hard drive. I backed up pics from my niece's Ipad to the drive, as I was resetting the Ipad. Now I can't seem to recover them? I've searched the external, but can't seem to find any knowledge or existance of backup? pics have backed up, because I validated them first. I'm struggling! the pics are new & old, they have a lot of old & new ones, that are of sentimental value, & personally I'm screwed. :(

My current drive 4TB is about to die, and I have to make a complete disk clone that includes the OS and all the software such as Office 2019 Pro Plus, Adobe Photoshop, etc. Are there any extra steps for my case or just doing the typical steps from Acronis True Image Disk Cloning process? Also, can I do the disk clone that includes the system and all software from the USB port for the new drive instead of the SATA port? After the completion of the disk clone, do all I need is to swap my new drive clone disk with the current almost dying drive?

Good video, I have been using Acronis since version 2009, I had try the Acronis TI 2020 beta version and I must say that it's not a lot of significant changes from 2019. So I don't think it's necessary to upgrade if using a perpetual license. Subscription users are automatically upgraded to 2020 at no extra cost which is nice.

(I don't let it run in the background since it consumes I think it was MEDIUM resources from startup, it slows down my system basically). Kinda fit in all and too much cramp into one interface. Unlike other software such as EASEUS and AOMEI Backupper.

If I may, take at least some time to create one master backup and label it as MainBakKeep or your own title. This should be done when you are happy with your current working pc setup. This will allow you to recover to a drive that is a working system. You can use cloud utilities to store all your everyday working files or directories that change daily. This doesn’t require a lot of knowledge, just commitment to making one copy. You can learn as you go and add functionality, but it is going to be one of the best things you do. Regards. Dave.

For anyone who has not yet purchased this software, here are a few tips to get you started with your own inexpensive file backup procedure for Windows systems: (1) format your primary drive as C: / E: (assuming D: is an optical disc drive): you can quickly shrink C: with the PartitionWizard freeware, then format the remainder as E: ; we have separated system software and our databases in this manner for many years, and it works great; (2) add a second drive and format it with space for a clone of C: e.g. drive letter F: , then format the remainder as G: for data; C: and F: should be exactly the same size; (3) get some practice with XCOPY which will give you experience making copies of data on E: to the G: partition on your second drive; XCOPY can also be run from batch programs inside Command Prompt, for example: E: cd \ XCOPY myfolder G:\myfolder /s/e/v/d If you want XCOPY to list the changes it would make, but you don't want it to make any changes in the target G:\myfolder, then do this: XCOPY myfolder G:\myfolder /s/e/v/d/l To get help with XCOPY command line options, do this: XCOPY /? (4) finally, you'll need a professional package like Acronis to write drive images of the C: system partition to E: and/or to G: ; we write drive images to G: and then copy those drive images to E: (this sequence is highly recommended if you are still using HDDs because it minimizes thrashing of the read/write heads). We prefer to clone C: to F: , and then we easily boot from that second copy of our OS by changing the boot drive in the motherboard''s BIOS. Also, that clone on F: should have all of the same device drivers as the original system on C: . And, restoring C: typically executes a lot faster when the restore task is launched from F: instead of booting from a CD-ROM "rescue" disc. If you are installing a brand new, unformatted second drive, PartitionWizard freeware also has a "Migrate OS" function which works great, but the entire target drive must be "unallocated". Quite honestly, for simple tasks like the procedures described above, Acronis is overkill. Nevertheless, if you are making lots of changes to the system files in C: e.g. you enable Windows Updates to be installed whenever Microsoft schedules them, you should buy a package like Acronis so you can create and manage a time-series of C: backups. Alternatively, there are freeware versions of Macrium Reflect and EaseUS Disk Copy, which can be downloaded and installed, for purposes of testing and acquiring experience with software that does a subset of features supported by Acronis.

-- Restoring a file: 1) So let's say that you mistakenly clobber a file, and your only option to restore it is from one of your True Image backups, which you have stored on your external USB drive. How do you navigate to that backup location to copy back the file that you need? -- Mounting a backup image: 2a) Let's say that you are not sure of whether or not something in one of your folders got screwed up. So you want to compare that folder to what recently got backed up. Previous versions of True Image allowed you to mount the backup image as a drive letter, peruse it, open those files to check their contents, etc. I did not see the "Mount Image" option in this video's review. Has that feature been retired? 2b) If the mounting an image feature is still there, will it allow you to mount the image as a regular user, or must you be logged in under an administrator's account? I am asking this question, because, once upon a time, I used version 2013, and it allows for a regular user to mount an image as a drive letter (very useful). You would get the UAC prompt, and would have to enter the admin password. Upon doing so, your image got mounted. When I upgraded to the 2016 version, they screwed that up, requiring you to be an administrator. If you were logged in as a regular user, True Image did not ask for the admin password (no UAC prompt or any other prompt). It simply ignored the "Mount Image" request. Their tech support suggested that I upgrade to the 2017 version, that just came out. I did so, and it had the exact same issue (very frustrating and time wasting). This is when they lost me as a customer. So I never checked into whether or not they resolved this issue, and I am curious to know the answer. Thank you.

    Q. Does it not allow you to just double click the backup.tib file and open up as a drive? If the main software is installed, the tib usually opens as a folder? This is true of most backup software packages. Apart from that, there should be at least two functions: System (drive - partition) recovery, or file and folder recovery, Both will depend on wether you created either or both files to start with, Regards Dave.

  • @NoEgg4u

    @NoEgg4u

    4 жыл бұрын

@@davewalsh4982 I believe that was the case, for the 2013 version (and that or something similar going back even further). But in 2016, and again in 2017, the only way to view the contents of the .tib file was to do so by way of logging into Windows under the administrator account (or any user set-up to be an administrator). I went around and around in circles with their tech support, both via tickets and then they finally called me, when the tickets were not being resolved. They just did not test this feature under a standard user account. Note that in 2016 (possibly earlier -- don't know, because I jumped from 2013 to 2016), they no longer had a "Mount Image" option in their application. They handed that functionality over to "explorer", via a right-click in the file manager. It was there, in 2016, that now appeared the option to mount an image. But it ignored your request, if you were a standard user. It granted your request, if you were logged in as an administrator. I tried every way that I could, to get my standard user account to mount the image. I tried running the command prompt with admin privileges, and starting explorer from there. I tried the same, and ran explorer with the "runas" command, and giving it admin privileges. Nothing worked, while logged in as a standard user. I am done with Acronis. And in a few months, I will be done with anything Microsoft, anything Google, and all the rest of the "we spy on everything you do" companies. Hello open source Linux!

When I was using Windows XP regularly, the free Personal Edition of Acronis True Image 8 was all I needed to make a system image of boot drive C. It never failed. Then later when I got a Windows 7 PC I purchased Acronis True Image 2015. But the later version wasn't /isn't as straightforward or user-friendly as version 8. I hated it. Acronis seemed to have made the interface more, not less, complicated. And now this version 2020 you're reviewing seems yet more arcane! Software producers think they can only sell to new customers by offering more and more bells and whistles. Where is the simple software we used to love? How on earth do users who know nothing about computers except to switch them on and use Word or Excel ever understand the currently available backup software? I'm now checking out MiniTool ShadowMaker, as it seems to be easy to use.

@airscrew1 I am still at a loss to explain why some people have a 1TB or 2TB boot drive. To each his own, I know. I have a 500GB M.2 NVME boot drive and with Windows 10 Pro and all my apps installed the space used is less than 100GB. I put all data on other drives so I can keep the boot drive lean. No need to have all kinds of files mixed in with the OS and apps. Never understood that. Backing up the boot drive with Acronis is fairly quick. If I need to change the boot drive for whatever reason it's quite easy because I'm not backing up tons of data. If my boot drive craps out I don't have to sweat it as long as I have a fairly new disk image copy. My data is safe elsewhere. This method has worked for me for a long time and I'm sticking with it. :-)

Good video but Acronis is too expensive at $50 per Year. You don't get to use it 12 monts from now. I used Clonezilla to clone a same size or larger ssd witj no issues. It's crude but won't harm your discs and it's free.

Britec09, how about your other video called "Best FREE PC Backup Software For Windows 10"? And that video was about AOMEI Backupper. So, they are all Best? Or the keyword is "free"? Anyway, I've read reviews from some users who said that AOMEI helped them where Acronis is failed. Therefore, all this is relative.

Britec09, OK. As for me, being a normal home user, AOMEI seems to me more attractive, simpler, with a more user friendly interface. Acronis seems more suitable for business, enterprises, with many additional options, settings that are not needed by the average user and can only confuse. These are just my impressions after watching your videos about AOMEI and Acronis. Plus, what attracts me is that I have not seen bad reviews in comments from users on various websites about AOMEI. But I saw negative reviews about Acronis, including people who have switched from Acronis to AOMEI.

Here we go again. Just now I've read a new comment under some other video: _From my own practice: it was necessary to create an image from a dead hard drive. Acronis swore at the bad sectors and could not read the data, AOMEI made an image._ That's what I was talking about.

Its too expensive as its on subscription, over £30 a year, I tried the mac version and its puts a icon on the task bar you cant get rid off, not for me, and I do not buy subscription software, not my policy. sorry. there are better and cheaper alternatives.

installed Acronis 30- day demo 4 days ago yesterday I tried to get the windows 10 esd on flash drive acronis for some reason destroyed the flash drive by "Write Protecting" it now I have a worthless 32 gigabyte flash drive even Linux can't format it says write protected...I tried dealing with it on windows 10 again and had to throw it out. The flash was brand new from WalMart. I will never use this software again.

Pointless purchase. You can clone disks using Clonezilla. If your cloning a hard disk with Clonezilla to a more larger disk then once your disk is cloned you can use GParted to expand the last partition to fill the disk. Clonezilla is free. Gparted is also free. Clonezilla will also backup over a network, and can even clone multiple backups to multiple machines all at once.

Wow! thanks for your comment. However, Acronis is still better in terms of active ransomware protection for on the fly restoring encrypted files.

It's an abomination. It installs Apple Bonjour and also a lot of running services at bootup. It takes over the PC and makes everything sluggish. It took me over 20 minutes to uninstall this bloatware from my PC. I had to close the browser and also other programs that were connected to the Internet to finish the uninstall.
