My acer nitro 5 is making a rattling noise and with that the performance comes down. I think that something is stuck in the fan like dust or something . However I want to make sure that if I remove the fan an expose the thermal paste I do not have to replace the thermal paste. Please reply

@aryaanyy6494 if you lift the cooler, you have to replace the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU. If the paste is fresh, theoretically you can lift the cooler and than put it back, but I don't recommend it.

As long as I have the right screwdrivers and a tweezer, should it work? do I have to use a paste? Or can I just not clean it off and put the parts back in? I don’t have a paste. Thanks for this! I just bought an Acer Nitro 5 from a local second hand shop (Cash Converters in the UK). Got home and ran Heaven Benchmark on it - temps on the 1050 were hitting 95 degrees! Opened it up - caked in dust! Used a blower to get most out, then took apart the fans - just as clogged as the ones in your video. Clean them out, changed the thermal paste (MX-4), put it back together and ran Heaven Benchmark again. Temps had dropped to 63 degrees. Thanks again for the vid! 🙂

I wasn’t sure how to take the fans apart, this video showed me exactly how. I also found the same amount of dust collected around the edges of the fans. Removing those dropped my by temps by 10-15 degrees Celsius in game and idling. Thank you so much.

Super duper video! Thank you so much!! Has fixed the problem of a rattling fan and abnormal fan noise. We have Acer Nitro 5 of different model, where fans can't be unscrewed. But the idea is clear - big lumps of dust are present - you just need to get access to them. In our model I carefully pulled the fans off a frame, and scraped out dust clumps with flat screwdriver from around the perimeter of each fan, and brushed off the blades carefully. Ordered thermo paste. Will apply it when it comes. Super happy!

Really helpful video. The problem with models like this (I have the AN515-43) is that you have to take off the whole heat sink even if you just want to properly dust off the fans and vents. I'd cleaned and repasted mine just four/five months ago but then it started overheating again due to I assume dust accumulation. So just to clean out the fans and vents I had to take the whole heat sink off and repaste it again. Unless I'm missing something, this seems like a very annoying design flaw.

Extremely useful and worked for my Acer Nitro 7 (2019) Model. It's working well afterwards, saw an idle temp drop from 70° to 45 and on load temp from 95° to the 60-70s immediately after the process. I'm expecting it to average to about 80, 85° possibly on extreme load, which is still far better than my previous temps

The problem may not be the fans. If the thermal paste is dry, it cannot absorb heat from the CPU and the cooling is not efficient. Even with the new fans, the sound may be the same. It is a good idea to replace the thermal paste also.

I use mx-2 because it is the best about price/performance. It last about 2 years before drying. All depend on the load... Also there is not a lot of difference about applying the paste. When you put the cooler and tide the screws it will even the paste. I like to spread it before.

No matter how fresh paste it, laptop manufacturers use cheap and low quality thermal compounds which isn't good for heat dissipation but lasts very long without drying (That's what they focus on) , just after warranty period is over clean its fans and apply good thermal compound, in my case i applied liquid metal, its quite risky and expensive but also worth it, it reduced temps down up to 25 degrees Celsius.

Well you can't put whatever fan you want. It has to be compatible for the model. Best way is to use the origunal ones. If they work fine, a little lubrication will maket them like new. If they are noy working fine than replace them with the same model. Otherwise you may have problema with rpm and etc.

I'm having some issues with my laptop, makes loud sounds from the fan. I don't have money to bring it in to get cleaned by a professional. I found some tools laying around and managed to open the back using your video. Got the fan screws. But every single cooler screw will not budge. Is there an alternate way I can clean the fan? Had a lot of dust. And there's some loose pet hairs inside, likely from the fan. Is it safe to use my vacuum to suck it out? I don't want to risk ruining it as the vacuum is quite strong and I know electronics are very delicate. Would using my vacuum cleaner on the fan damage anything??? Also the black and yellow tape/tabs have hardly any stick to them. What are they and is it possible to replace them? I don't want them to come loose and it stop working. This laptop is all I have and was very expensive which I only got through very lucky circumstances and I would never be able to get another one for years if something happened to it. I'm gonna close it up and put all the screws back, and just hope the tiny bit of dust I got out with my fingers and the screwdriver (gently) will help.

Use a vacuum cleaner. Hold the fan, so it doesn't spinn and try to suck whatever you can. Also you can try and blow from outside while vacuuming. This way you will clean the dust, but it is good idea to replace the thermal paste also.

@@LaptopDisassembly it sounds much better after using the vacuum. Also my GPU and stuff's rpm is much lower now, I don't know what they mean but noticed they were getting higher with time. Amy games I play are also running much more smoothly too and my computer sounds normal again. Thanks for your video, I was so scared of ruining something after I got the screw off to take the back off before I found it. I was having a hard time figuring out how to remove the back and getting it off was difficult after your video told me how to remove it. But with your instruction I got it! Have a good day/night
