Most people in India learn British English but as we grew up watching American movies or tv shows their pronunciation affects a lot so it's like a mix of both with our own accent and the accent vary from person to person because we have so many states and languages.

India uses British English because of the magnificent British Raj but when it comes to the Indian accent, it’s pretty much the same no matter what part of India they are from.

Indian phonetics is beautiful because seeking to harmonize other phonetics is conciliatory, India must obey more the international phonetics of English and have its own phonetics, which will sound more beautiful, seek the logical, historical and literal pronunciation of words.

English Used 33 to 34 phonetic sound indian languages used minimum 54 phonetic sound so indian can pronounce more sound than native English speakers.

Dude, from your comment I see that you are biased and partial, besides not liking Indian phonetics, you underestimate Indian English and are completely unaware of it, Indian English can use 29 to 31 phonemes, like 33 to 37 phonemes, which Indian English is based on British English, and can become a minor or major phrasal modulation to it. You lack a lot of tact and understanding of Indian English, visiting India will do you good, goodbye and no more with you.

the british accent was so similar to american accent but they changed it in the late 1700s and it evolved to be modern rp british accent(mainly welsh and english).. because scottish accent isn't non-rhotic and posh accent didn’t pervade to scotland

addition* they dropped their final r's in the late 1700s and this also explains why australian and kiwi(new zealand) accent is more similar to the british accent than north american accent(namely canadian & american which is 95%+ similar).. because of same colonial period.. australia was colonized by the british in the late 1700s and the early settles were british irish dutch french germans but the british(which were the largest settlers) were speaking like modern day australians.. and their t's still sounded like d before it changed in england and wales to a soft t.. and canadian and american accent is similar because their accent is 1600s british accent😂

India in terms of English has many contacts and English references India has strong English contacts with South Africa, USA, Australia and New Zealand. Nowadays, India is fully capable of putting international English on the world's table, obeying the pure international phonology of English without imitating the phonology of other countries.

The original British pronunciation of Schedule, was (Skeh-dū-uhl) the American version. They changed later on to sound more posh or upper class. To separate those who had money and those that were working class people.

@@eladbenmGreek. All ch words in English of Greek origin should be pronounced with a k sound. The reason English people don’t for this one word is because the k sound was dropped in French (which is where it came into English).

From the UK and never said Schedule as shed-ule always said it as sked-ule so it probably depends on what part of the UK you come from. Also the way you say advertisement depends on where you come from in the UK as well.

Nobody denied that there aren't mother languages. But India has the largest English speaking population in the world and is an Official Language of India and is the Connecting Language across India

I think with the advent of things like TV, the internet, international travel, etc, the accents are slowly melding together. You can really see the difference in the last 50 years from old TV shows and interviews as each accent group has started integrating pronunciations. It's also obvious in larger populous areas like cities where there it is more diverse,. Rural areas tend to hold onto their accents longer. I think the way we pronounce different words like advertisement and adult depend on the situation, in isolation, in Australia it is a mixed bag, but adult, I feel, the emphasis would be on the a but in a sentence with a lot of fast moving syllables it would be on the d. I mainly say advertisement with the emphasis on the vert rather than the ise, but I do flip flop from time to time.

For saying water, being outside of Philadelphia for the majority of my life I say “Wooder” And another thing that I have picked up on from my family is sometimes I will say “Djeetyet?” Which to many of you looks like I just threw up out of my mouth but to me it means “Did you eat yet?”

ArgyleWinthroughson20 beat me to the point that English in North America and Britten were essentially the same into the late 1700s. The basic American English spoken today is only slightly different phonetically from that time (there are even small pockets in the Appalachian Mountains that retain the 1780 speech patterns) British English morphed into what it is today and had some rather noticeable changes in pronunciation, common letter drops or insertions, and many of the tell tale markers of modern British English. If you want the real OG English, look to America - contrary to what is proposed at 8:51. In other words, the British have changed English more from where English was prior to it leaving the island originally in the 1500s.

The Appalachian pockets of conserved speech patterns seems like a romanticization. It is probably mere coincidence, if true at all. Language change happens at similar rates all over the world.

@@syedmahmood4821 Yes, no language is totally static and the reason the "small pockets" of Appalachian English were so significant was because there were a rapidly dwindling number of people that spoke that way. They were researched and recorded as living samples of how English sounded from early colonial times, and this was several decades ago. What it all showed was that the English spoken in America has actually altered less than what happened over the same time in Britten and was still spoken, nearly unchanged, in tiny pockets in isolated areas of the mountains. The take away is that the British have changed English more than those in the Americas and there was living proof well into the middle of the 20th century. I will say that the rate and manner of change differs from area to area and language to language however.

In sentences 9 and 10, the difference is very noticeable. I'm from the US, so the American accent seems to have the words more delineated. As an example, "advertising schedule" in British RP sounds like one long word, with emphasis on the "ver", whereas US has emphasis on the "tis" and the "sked".

Just 25 to 30 yrs ago...No one in India would have pronounced "Garage" the way Americans do...its very new thing. Watch old videos (on KZread) and even there the "Garage" is pronounced British/Oz way.

Some Indians speak better English than English speaking countries, but they don’t speak English in their day to day lives. They would only speak English within their country if they are in a different state that doesn’t understand Hindi or the language they speak.

It's due to the history of settlement patterns. The land where Modern Germany is has been inhabited for millennia by many different groups. The same is true for Italy, France and England. That's why there are more dialectal differences in those countries in such a small area. That said, the US does have dozens of accents which is more than most countries.

India is multi linguistic. But unless you study vernacular you learn everything in English. You talk professionally in English too. It's our official language. Job interviews happen in English, depending on the job, but all office job interviews are in English. Our Constitution was written in it. And by population 128539090 Indians are English speakers, according to Wikipedia. By these metrics, India is definitely an English speaking country. It is the odd one here because any 22 official languages would easily pass this test for calling India a country that speaks any of those 22 languages.
